However, no method exists to safely image and monitor placental inflammation during pregnancy. We customized a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) method, diffusion basis spectrum imaging (DBSI), to measure immune cells in placenta.

Reinforcement learning studies propose that decision-making is guided by a tradeoff between computationally cheaper model-free (habitual) control and costly model-based (goal-directed) control. Greater model-based control is typically used under highly rewarding conditions to minimize risk and maximize gain. Although prior studies have shown impairments in sensitivity to reward value in individuals with frequent alcohol use, it is unclear how these individuals arbitrate between model-free and model-based control based on the magnitude of reward incentives.

Early time-restricted eating (eTRE) is a dietary strategy that restricts caloric intake to the first 6-8 h of the day and can effect metabolic benefits independent of weight loss. However, the extent of these benefits is unknown. We conducted a randomized crossover feeding study to investigate the weight-independent effects of eTRE on glycemic variation, multiple time-in-range metrics, and levels of inflammatory markers.

Modeling lake conductivity in the contiguous United States using spatial indexing for big spatial data.

Conductivity is an important indicator of the health of aquatic ecosystems. We model large amounts of lake conductivity data collected as part of the United States Environmental Protection Agency's National Lakes Assessment using spatial indexing, a flexible and efficient approach to fitting spatial statistical models to big data sets. Spatial indexing is capable of accommodating various spatial covariance structures as well as features like random effects, geometric anisotropy, partition factors, and non-Euclidean topologies.

Multi-tensor fixel-based metrics in tractometry: application to multiple sclerosis.

Traditional Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) metrics are affected by crossing fibers and lesions. Most of the previous tractometry works use the single diffusion tensor, which leads to limited sensitivity and challenging interpretation of the results in crossing fiber regions. In this work, we propose a tractometry pipeline that combines white matter tractography with multi-tensor fixel-based metrics.

Causal Discovery with Generalized Linear Models through Peeling Algorithms.

This article presents a novel method for causal discovery with generalized structural equation models suited for analyzing diverse types of outcomes, including discrete, continuous, and mixed data. Causal discovery often faces challenges due to unmeasured confounders that hinder the identification of causal relationships. The proposed approach addresses this issue by developing two peeling algorithms (bottom-up and top-down) to ascertain causal relationships and valid instruments.

Background/purpose Of The Study: Globally, gynaecological cancer is an important malignancy and chemotherapy is an essential component of the standard treatment modality. The purpose of the study was to determine the cost minimization analysis by comparing the price of the most expensive and least expensive branded drugs used in the treatment of gynaecological cancer in India, considering body surface area relevant to the Indian context.

Methods: This was a conventional pharmacoeconomic study designed to determine the lowest possible cost.

Objective: Hematopoietic stem cell transplant is a life-saving procedure that treats patients with various conditions by transplanting hematopoietic stem cells from bone marrow. Mobile health apps could be useful in closing the digital divide and improving health equity among Spanish-speaking caregivers of children who undergo pediatric hematopoietic stem cell transplant. This study aims to transcreate the BMT4me adherence app originally designed for English-speaking caregivers for Spanish-speaking caregivers and evaluate the feasibility and usability.

Objective: Metastatic breast cancer (MBC) is associated with burdensome side effects, including cognitive changes that require ongoing monitoring. Cognitive ecological momentary assessments (EMAs) allow for assessment of individual cognitive functioning in natural environments and can be administered via smartphones. Accordingly, we sought to establish the feasibility, reliability, and validity of a commercially available cognitive EMA platform.

Strengthening tobacco control research: key factors impacting policy outcomes and health equity.

In this policy brief, we explore several potential drivers of heterogeneity in policy outcomes that can be examined in tobacco control policy evaluations, expanding the evidence base to contribute to continued, equitable progress in reducing tobacco-related health outcomes. We discuss these factors in the context of a hypothetical evaluation of the impact of smoke-free laws on current smoking and quit attempts in the Tobacco Nation. Despite a similar policy environment within the Tobacco Nation, there is variation in the strength of smoke-free law coverage across states.

Here, we report on pollen recovered from the body and legs of a large carpenter bee (Apidae: Xylocopinae: Xylocopini) from the Eocene of Messel.

Materials & Methods: This retrospective observational study (9/1/19-1/31/23) linked patients from the Nalu medical database to the OM1 Real-World Data Cloud (RWDC). Eligible patients received the micro-IPG implant for PNS, were identifiable in both databases, and had ≥ 12 months of RWDC pre/post-implantation claims data.

Biofeedback-Based Videogame May Improve Rage Attacks in Tourette Syndrome.

Approximately 20%-40% of individuals with Tourette syndrome (TS) have rage attacks (RAs), which are recurrent, explosive behavioral outbursts that can cause significant functional impairment. Despite the impact of RA in TS, there has been limited research on treatment, and most studies have focused on pharmacologic interventions. Nonpharmacologic interventions have the potential to improve symptoms with fewer side effects.

Variations in State Essential Caregiver Programs for Nursing Homes During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

During 2020-21, states established essential caregiver (EC) programs which allowed nursing home residents to receive in-person supports during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study presents comparative data on the designs of these programs. We conducted on-line searches for federal and states' nursing home visitation and reopening guidelines published in 2020-22.

Urinary catheters serve as critical medical devices in clinical practice. However, the currently used urinary catheters lack efficient antibacterial and lubricating properties, often leading to discomfort with patients and even severe urinary infections. Herein, a new strategy of supramolecular assembly and disassembly of chitosan (Cs) is developed that enables efficient antibacterial lubricous and biodegradable hydrogel urinary catheters.

International consensus guidelines on the implementation and monitoring of vosoritide therapy in individuals with achondroplasia.

Achondroplasia is the most common genetic form of short-limbed skeletal dysplasia (dwarfism). Clinical manifestations and complications can affect individuals across the lifespan, including the need for adaptations for activities of daily living, which can affect quality of life. Current international guidelines focus on symptomatic management, with little discussion regarding potential medication, as therapeutic options were limited at the time of their publication.

Bile acid metabolism in type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a complex disorder associated with insulin resistance and hyperinsulinaemia that is insufficient to maintain normal glucose metabolism. Changes in insulin signalling and insulin levels are thought to directly explain many of the metabolic abnormalities that occur in diabetes mellitus, such as impaired glucose disposal. However, molecules that are directly affected by abnormal insulin signalling might subsequently go on to cause secondary metabolic effects that contribute to the pathology of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
