Background: Instagram has become one of the most powerful marketing tools available to plastic surgeons because patients have increasingly turned to online resources to find physicians. Within, we review the online presence of self-ascribed plastic surgeons in the United States to identify potential misinformation and dishonest advertising.

Methods: The Inflact database was queried for the search terms: "plastic surgeon/surgery," "plastic and reconstructive surgeon/surgery," "aesthetic surgeon/surgery," and "cosmetic surgeon/surgery.

Background: TB preventive treatment (TPT) prevents the development of TB disease in individuals at risk of progression from infection to disease. However, implementation of TPT for children is poor in most high-burden settings. The long duration and pill burden of the 6-month once-daily isoniazid regimen (6H) pose significant barriers to completion.

Informational rescaling of PCA maps with application to genetic distance.

Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is a powerful multivariate tool allowing the projection of data in low-dimensional representations. Nevertheless, datapoint distances on these low-dimensional projections are challenging to interpret. Here, we propose a computationally simple heuristic to transform a map based on standard PCA (when the variables are asymptotically Gaussian) into an entropy-based map where distances are based on mutual information (MI).

Clinical Outcomes and Donor-specific Antibody Rebound 5 y After Kidney Transplant Enabled by Imlifidase Desensitization.

Background: Imlifidase is an IgG-cleaving endopeptidase conditionally approved in Europe for desensitization of highly sensitized patients before kidney transplantation. We present 5-y outcomes and donor-specific antibody (DSA) levels for clinical trial participants from a single site who received imlifidase for desensitization before incompatible transplantation (NCT02790437).

Methods: Imlifidase was administered up to 24 h before living or deceased donor kidney transplantation.

Visually significant ocular decompression retinopathy following laser peripheral iridotomy in a patient with primary acute angle-closure glaucoma.

Purpose: We report a single case of ocular decompression retinopathy (ODR) following neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet laser peripheral iridotomy (Nd:YAG LPI) for primary acute angle-closure glaucoma associated with delayed visual recovery secondary to optic nerve head edema and macular thickening.

Observations: A 56-year-old female patient presented to the emergency department with primary acute angle-closure glaucoma. After topical and IV therapy did not improve intraocular pressure (IOP), an Nd:YAG LPI was performed.

The Effects of Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment on Arrhythmias: A Double-blind Randomized Controlled Trial in Patients with Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices.

Sjögren's (SS) involves salivary and lacrimal gland dysfunction. These studies examined metabolic profiles in the B6. transgene mouse model of SS and a cohort of human SS patients at different stages of disease.

The effect of replacing prolonged sitting with intermittent standing during a simulated workday on the subsequent night's sleep.

A bout of leisure-time physical activity improves sleep on the subsequent night. However, whether breaking up sedentary time during the workday improves sleep is unknown. The purpose of this study was to examine whether breaking up prolonged sitting by standing during the workday leads to better sleep the following night.

Anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty in the 7th decade of life demonstrates superior long-term maintenance than in older patients.

Background: Anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty (aTSA) is often delayed due to concerns about a more rapid loss of postoperative improvements in younger, more active patients. This retrospective study investigated the effects of patient age on activity-specific functional outcomes at a minimum of 10 years following aTSA.

Methods: A retrospective review of a shoulder arthroplasty database was performed.

Background: This study investigates the association between intra-operative balance and 2-year outcomes within subgroups defined by demographics and pre-operative joint balance. Impact of Severity of Sickle Cell Anemia on Auditory Discrimination Ability and Speech Perception in Noise.

 Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is a genetic disorder with clinical manifestations due to circulatory changes, leading to adverse effects on the auditory system that might impact auditory processing, such as auditory discrimination and speech perception ability. This condition is associated with the severity level of anemia.  The purpose of the present study was to investigate the influence of anemia severity on auditory discrimination ability and speech perception in noise among SCA patients with normal hearing sensitivity.

Outcome of a Nail-plate Fixation Combination for a Distal Femur Fracture in a 99-year-old Patient.

Introduction: This report describes the use of a combination of a retrograde femoral nail and distal femur locking plate for the treatment of an open intra-articular distal femur fracture in a 99-year-old female. The purpose of this report is to highlight that nail-plate fixation constructs can be performed percutaneously and expeditiously even in extremely old patients; therefore, patient age should not be a limiting factor in choosing this construct to allow for immediate weight-bearing.

Adult-Onset Myoclonus in a Large Urban Inpatient Setting: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Background: Myoclonus is a hyperkinetic movement with various attributable etiologies, semiologies, and treatment outcomes. To our knowledge, few studies investigated adult-onset myoclonus in an inpatient setting.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed charts of adult inpatients with myoclonus at New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital between 2011 and 2021.

Solar elastosis correlates with high tumor mutation burden and better 5-year disease-specific survival in patients with stage II/III melanoma.

Objective: To evaluate the relation between solar elastosis and tumor mutation burden (TMB) in a large clinically annotated cohort of stage II and III melanoma patients.

Methods: Primary cutaneous melanomas from 469 AJCC (8 edition) stage II and III patients with clinical annotation including outcome at 5 years of diagnosis were histopathologically evaluated for solar elastosis. Next-generation sequencing assay MSK-IMPACT was employed to determine TMB.

Unmasking tuberculous arthritis in a prosthetic joint: Diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.

An 85-year-old woman with a history of total knee replacements for osteoarthritis in the past, presented with left knee swelling and pain that persisted for 14 months. An initial diagnosis of synovial cyst was made, and she underwent multiple aspirations and symptomatic treatments without improvement. Repeat arthrocentesis showed a WBC of 56,000/μL with 61 % neutrophils and 34 % lymphocytes.

Transdisciplinary perspectives for health systems science.

Health systems science uses systems thinking as part of a transdisciplinary approach that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries. It integrates and synthesizes knowledge from multiple disciplines to address real-world problems in healthcare with pragmatic solutions. This editorial defines health systems from the perspectives of systems thinking, science, and engineering, discusses their current challenges and opportunities, and envisions how health systems science as a field can advance the continuous learning and improvement of health systems.

The role of information science within the clinical translational science ecosystem.

Academic health sciences libraries ("libraries") offer services that span the entire research lifecycle, positioning them as natural partners in advancing clinical and translational science. Many libraries enjoy active and productive collaborations with Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) Program hubs and other translational initiatives like the IDeA Clinical & Translational Research Network. This article explores areas of potential partnership between libraries and Translational Science Hubs (TSH), highlighting areas where libraries can support the CTSA Program's five functional areas outlined in the Notice of Funding Opportunity.

Dynamics of fluorinated imide-based ionic liquids using nuclear magnetic resonance techniques.

There is increasing interest in studying molecular motions in ionic liquids to gain better insights into their transport properties and to expand their applications. In this study, we have employed the fast field cycling relaxometry and pulsed field gradient nuclear magnetic resonance techniques to investigate the rotational and translational dynamics of fluorinated imide-based ionic liquids (ILs) at different temperatures. We have studied a total of six ILs composed of the 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium cation ([BMIM]) combined with chemically modified analogs of the bis((trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl)imide anion ([NTf] or [TFSI]).

Chronic bacterial infections exert metabolic costs in Drosophila melanogaster.

Bacterial infections can substantially impact host metabolic health as a result of the direct and indirect demands of sustaining an immune response and of nutrient piracy by the pathogen itself. Drosophila melanogaster and other insects that survive a sublethal bacterial infection often carry substantial pathogen burdens for the remainder of life. In this study, we asked whether these chronic infections exact metabolic costs for the host, and how these costs scale with the severity of chronic infection.

Predicting Mortality in Patients Hospitalized With Acute Myocardial Infarction: From the National Cardiovascular Data Registry.

Background: In-hospital mortality risk prediction is an important tool for benchmarking quality and patient prognostication. Given changes in patient characteristics and treatments over time, a contemporary risk model for patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI) is needed.

Methods: Data from 313 825 acute MI hospitalizations between January 2019 and December 2020 for adults aged ≥18 years at 784 sites in the National Cardiovascular Data Registry Chest Pain-MI Registry were used to develop a risk-standardized model to predict in-hospital mortality.

Stroke mimics and chameleons remain a major challenge to the clinician and clinical investigator. Misdiagnosis of stroke can result in significant harm to our patients, as well as unnecessary financial costs to the health care systems internationally. The approach to stroke mimics and chameleons has evolved over time with the development of clinical scales and technology.
