Risk of Revision Was Not Reduced by a Double-bundle ACL Reconstruction Technique: Results From the Scandinavian Registers.

Background: Double-bundle anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction has demonstrated improved biomechanical properties and moderately better objective outcomes compared with single-bundle reconstructions. This could make an impact on the rerupture rate and reduce the risk of revisions in patients undergoing double-bundle ACL reconstruction compared with patients reconstructed with a traditional single-bundle technique. The National Knee Ligament Registers in Scandinavia provide information that can be used to evaluate the revision outcome after ACL reconstructions.

The glenocapsular ligament and the posterosuperior part of the joint capsule of the shoulder are well vascularized.

Purpose: A detailed structural anatomy of the posterosuperior shoulder capsule and "glenocapsular ligament" is still rather unknown. The purpose of this study was meticulously to investigate and describe the structure and blood supply of the glenocapsular ligament on the posterosuperior shoulder joint capsule.

Method: Sixteen fixed and twelve fresh cadaveric shoulder specimens with a mean age of 73.

Adherence of self-monitoring of blood glucose in persons with type 1 diabetes in Sweden.

Objective: The primary aim was to evaluate the extent to which persons with type 1 diabetes perform self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) according to guidelines. Secondary objectives were to investigate predictors for good SMBG adherence, reasons for non-adherence, and association between SMBG frequency and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c).

Methods: This was a survey-based cross-sectional study.

Incidence and risk factors predisposing plate removal following orthognathic surgery.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence and reasons for titanium fixation plate removal following orthognathic surgery, identify risk factors predisposing removal, and explore if discomfort was reduced postoperatively.

Study Design: Medical records of 404 consecutive cases were retrospectively reviewed. All patients received a questionnaire for follow-up, and 323 patients answered the questionnaire, thus forming the sample group.

Factors Associated With Diabetes-Specific Health-Related Quality of Life in Youth With Type 1 Diabetes: The Global TEENs Study.

Objective: Our objective was to characterize diabetes-specific health-related quality of life (D-HRQOL) in a global sample of youth and young adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and to identify the main factors associated with quality of life.

Research Design And Methods: The TEENs study was an international, cross-sectional study of youth, 8-25 years of age, with T1D. Participants ( = 5,887) were seen in clinical sites in 20 countries across 5 continents enrolled for 3 predetermined age groups: 8-12, 13-18, and 19-25 years of age.

Measurement properties of the Swedish modified version of the Postural Assessment Scale for Stroke Patients (SwePASS) using Rasch analysis.

Background: A previous small-sample (N.=150) Rasch analysis of the Swedish modified version of the Postural Assessment Scale for Stroke Patients (SwePASS) suggested problems regarding response categories and redundant items that need confirmation in larger samples with more severe strokes.

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the measurement properties of the SwePASS in patients with acute stroke.

Autoinflammatory disease was introduced as a concept in 1999, demarcating an entirely new group of diseases in clinical, immunological, and conceptual terms. During recent years, the preconditions for the definition of autoinflammatory conditions have changed. This includes the recent discovery of a number of monogenic autoinflammatory conditions with complex phenotypes that combine autoinflammation with defects of the adaptive and/or innate immune system, resulting in the occurrence of infection, autoimmunity, and/or uncontrolled hyperinflammation in addition to autoinflammation.

Prevalence of primary aldosteronism among patients with type 2 diabetes.

Context: Diabetes and hypertension coexist in 40%-60% of individuals with type 2 diabetes. The coexistence of these two conditions is associated with increased risk of retinopathy, nephropathy and cardiovascular disease.

Objective: To investigate the prevalence of primary aldosteronism (PA) in a general cohort of persons with type 2 diabetes.

A retrospective analysis of the impact of treatments and blood counts on survival and the risk of vascular events during the course of polycythaemia vera.

Vascular and non-vascular complications are common in patients with polycythaemia vera. This retrospective study of 217 patients with polycythaemia vera aimed to determine whether blood counts with respect to different treatments influenced the complication rate and survival. We found that 78 (36%) patients suffered from at least one complication during follow-up.

Continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion: Special needs for children.

Continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) is a very common therapy for children with type 1 diabetes. Due to physiological differences they have other requirements for their insulin pump than adults. The main difference is the need for very low basal rates.

A Clinical Trial of the Accuracy and Treatment Experience of the Flash Glucose Monitor FreeStyle Libre in Adults with Type 1 Diabetes.

Background: In Sweden, FreeStyle Libre a flash glucose monitoring system came onto the market in 2014 as a complement to self-monitoring of blood glucose. The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy and treatment experience of the FreeStyle Libre system.

Methods: Fifty-eight adults with type 1 diabetes used FreeStyle Libre for 10-14 days and measured capillary blood glucose levels with the HemoCue blood glucose measurement system at least six times a day simultaneously.

More histologic and ultrastructural degenerative signs in the subscapularis tendon and the joint capsule in male patients with shoulder impingement.

Purpose: The purpose of the present study was to analyze biopsy samples from the subscapularis tendon and from the joint capsule from male patients with shoulder impingement syndrome (SAIS) and compare them with samples from male patients with post-traumatic recurrent shoulder instability. The hypothesis of the study was that patients with SAIS would have more histologic and ultrastructural degenerative changes in their subscapularis tendon and joint capsule than patients with post-traumatic recurrent shoulder instability.

Methods: Male patients scheduled for surgery, with either subacromial decompression or Bankart reconstruction, were included.

Physical Performance Impairments and Limitations Among Hospitalized Frail Older Adults.

Background And Purpose: Early rehabilitation is important for frail older adults due to reduced reserve capacity and physical fitness. To facilitate individualized rehabilitation programs, we need tools to make it possible to assess physical fitness in relation to frailty, instead of chronological age. The purpose of this study was, in a Swedish context, to describe measures of physical fitness in hospitalized frail older adults in relation to their degree of frailty.

Risk factors for vascular complications and treatment patterns at diagnosis of 2389 PV and ET patients: Real-world data from the Swedish MPN Registry.

Objective: The study mainly aimed at investigating possible correlations between peripheral blood counts, erythropoietin (EPO), JAK2 V617F mutation, and vascular complications prior to diagnosis of a population-based cohort of newly diagnosed patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN).

Method: The study comprises 1105 patients with polycythemia vera (PV) and 1284 patients with essential thrombocythemia (ET) registered in the Swedish MPN Registry.

Results: Vascular complications, prior to diagnosis, were registered in 37% of PV patients.

Routine interventions in childbirth before and after initiation of an Action Research project.

Background: Unnecessary routine interventions in uncomplicated labour and birth, like cardiotocography (CTG), amniotomy, use of scalp electrode and oxytocin treatment, are associated with further interventions that could harm the woman and the infant. A four year Action Research (AR) project was done on a labour ward to enhance the capacity of local midwives in the promotion of physiological labour and birth.

Aim: To describe the use of interventions during labour and birth in healthy women at term with spontaneous onset of labour, before and after initiation of an Action Research project.

Effect of prophylactic percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube on swallowing in advanced head and neck cancer: A randomized controlled study.

Background: Dysphagia is common in head and neck cancer. A percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube is used to facilitate nutrition; however, some retrospective studies have indicated that the PEG tube causes dysphagia.

Methods: A randomized study of patients with head and neck cancer was conducted with up to 10 years of follow-up.

Continuous Glucose Monitoring vs Conventional Therapy for Glycemic Control in Adults With Type 1 Diabetes Treated With Multiple Daily Insulin Injections: The GOLD Randomized Clinical Trial.

Importance: The majority of individuals with type 1 diabetes do not meet recommended glycemic targets.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of continuous glucose monitoring in adults with type 1 diabetes treated with multiple daily insulin injections.

Design, Setting, And Participants: Open-label crossover randomized clinical trial conducted in 15 diabetes outpatient clinics in Sweden between February 24, 2014, and June 1, 2016 that included 161 individuals with type 1 diabetes and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) of at least 7.

Possibilities and challenges of a large international benchmarking in pediatric diabetology-The SWEET experience.

Aim: Despite the existence of evidence-based guidelines for the care of children with diabetes, widespread gaps in knowledge, attitude, and practice remain. The purpose of this paper is to present a review of benchmarking practices and results of this process within SWEET, moreover focusing on current challenges and future directions.

Methods: Biannually, members electronically transfer de-identified clinic data for 37 parameters to the SWEET database.

Androgens in women after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation: impact of chronic GvHD and glucocorticoid therapy.

Low androgen levels may contribute to sexual dysfunction in women after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (alloHCT). However, data on serum androgens in women after alloHCT are limited. The aim of this study was to assess androgen levels and their association with chronic GvHD (cGvHD) and glucocorticoid (GC) therapy.

Continued improvement of metabolic control in Swedish pediatric diabetes care.

Background: To prospectively investigate if the grand mean HbA1c and the differences in mean HbA1c between centers in Sweden could be reduced, thereby improving care delivered by pediatric diabetes teams.

Methods: We used an 18-month quality improvement collaborative (QIC) together with the Swedish pediatric diabetes quality registry (SWEDIABKIDS). The first program (IQ-1), started in April 2011 and the second (IQ-2) in April 2012; together they encompassed 70% of Swedish children and adolescents with diabetes.

New evidence of increased risk of rhinitis in subjects with COPD: a longitudinal population study.

Background: The aim of this population-based study was to investigate the risk of developing noninfectious rhinitis (NIR) in subjects with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Materials And Methods: This is a longitudinal population-based study comprising 3,612 randomly selected subjects from Gothenburg, Sweden, aged 25-75 years. Lung function was measured at baseline with spirometry and the included subjects answered a questionnaire on respiratory symptoms.

High on-treatment platelet reactivity: risk factors and 5-year outcomes in patients with acute myocardial infarction.

Objective: The aim of the present study was to assess long-term prognostic value of high on-treatment platelet reactivity (HTPR) in patients after acute myocardial infarction (MI) and its association with possible risk factors.

Methods: This prospective, case-control study was an observation of 198 patients who had acute MI. Response to aspirin and clopidogrel was assessed using impedance aggregometry.

Contemporary risk estimates of three HbA variables in relation to heart failure following diagnosis of type 2 diabetes.

Background: We evaluated the association between glycaemic control and the risk of heart failure (HF) in a contemporary cohort of persons followed after diagnosis of type 2 diabetes (T2D).

Methods And Results: Persons with T2D diagnosed between 1998 and 2012 were retrieved from the Clinical Practice Research Data Link in the UK and followed from diagnosis until the event of HF, mortality, drop out from the database due to any other reason, or the end of the study on 1 July 2015. The association between each of three different haemoglobin A (HbA) metrics and HF was estimated using adjusted proportional hazard models.
