Background: Because of the high risk for redislocations after a first-time traumatic anterior shoulder dislocation with conservative treatment, recent publications have recommended early arthroscopic intervention, especially for young athletes. Concomitant rotator cuff tendon damage may occur when the shoulder dislocates; however, its presence and influence on clinical results have not been well described in this patient category.

Hypothesis: In opposition to current opinion, a substantial number of articular-sided partial-thickness rotator cuff tears (APTRCTs) would be found at surgery after a first-time traumatic anterior shoulder dislocation in young athletes.

Background: Increased postoperative rotatory knee laxity after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction may be associated with an increased risk of osteoarthritis and inferior subjective outcome, although long-term studies are lacking. In terms of anteroposterior knee laxity, this association has not yet been established. Purpose/Hypothesis: The purpose was to investigate whether postoperative knee laxity is associated with inferior long-term outcome in patients who have undergone ACL reconstruction.

BMC Obes

June 2018

Primary Health Care, Research and Development Unit, Närhälsan, Region Västra Götaland, Gothenburg, Sweden.

Background: Obesity (BMI ≥30) during pregnancy is becoming an increasing public health issue and is associated with adverse maternal and perinatal outcomes. Introduction: Female genital chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGvHD) is a complication of allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (alloHCT) for blood malignancies. Unattended inflammation and fibrosis in the vulva and vagina may lead to total vaginal stenosis. The course and treatment of genital cGvHD was observed in this population-based prospective study.

Colorectal Dis

June 2018

Department of Surgery, Institute of Clinical Sciences, Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, Gothenburg, Sweden.

Aim: The aim of this study was to explore urogenital dysfunction and associated risk factors after treatment of rectal cancer, in a large national cohort of patients 3 years after abdominoperineal excision, and to compare outcomes with a reference population and a cohort of patients operated for prostate cancer.

Method: Patients treated with abdominoperineal excision in 2007-2009 were identified using the Swedish Colorectal Cancer Registry. All consenting patients received a questionnaire.

Objective: International studies on childhood type 1 diabetes (T1D) have focused on whole-country mean HbA levels, thereby concealing potential variations within countries. We aimed to explore the variations in HbA across and within eight high-income countries to best inform international benchmarking and policy recommendations.

Research Design And Methods: Data were collected between 2013 and 2014 from 64,666 children with T1D who were <18 years of age across 528 centers in Germany, Austria, England, Wales, U.

Background: To evaluate the effects of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) on nocturnal and daytime hypoglycemia in persons with type 1 diabetes treated with multiple daily insulin injections (MDI); we also evaluated factors related to differences in hypoglycemia confidence in this population.

Methods: Evaluations were performed from the GOLD randomized trial, an open-label multicenter crossover randomized clinical trial (n = 161) over 69 weeks comparing CGM to self-measurement of blood glucose (SMBG) in persons with type 1 diabetes treated with MDI. Masked CGM and the hypoglycemia confidence questionnaire were used for evaluations.

Background: The long-term outcome after the treatment of subacromial impingement syndrome (SAIS) with either nonsurgical or surgical methods has not been thoroughly investigated. Hypothesis/Purpose: The purpose was to evaluate the long-term clinical outcome and the presence of rotator cuff injuries and osteoarthritis (OA) after the surgical and nonsurgical treatment of SAIS. The hypothesis was that, at a minimum 10 years after the initial treatment, patients who had undergone acromioplasty would have a better clinical outcome and run a lower risk of developing rotator cuff ruptures and OA as compared with those treated with physical therapy.

Objective: To evaluate variables associated with hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) and weight reduction when adding liraglutide to persons with type 2 diabetes treated with multiple daily insulin injections (MDI).

Research Design And Methods: This was a reanalysis of a previous trial where 124 patients were enrolled in a double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter randomized trial carried out over 24 weeks. Predictors for effect on change in HbA1c and weight were analyzed within the treatment group and with concurrent interaction analyses.

The Long-Term Outcome After Early and Late Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction.

Arthroscopy

June 2018

Department of Orthopaedics, NU Hospital Group, Trollhättan/Uddevalla, Sweden; Institute of Clinical Sciences, Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, Gothenburg, Sweden; Department of Research and Development, NU Hospital Group, Trollhättan, Sweden.

Purpose: To compare long-term clinical and radiographic outcomes in patients undergoing either early (group A) or late (group B) surgery after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

Methods: ACL reconstruction using hamstring tendon autografts was performed in 30 patients in group A (median age, 23 years; range, 17-49 years) and 31 patients in group B (median age, 27 years; range, 17-38 years). The patients in group A were operated on within 5 months (median, 3 months; range, 2-5 months) of injury, whereas those in group B were operated on more than 24 months (median, 30 months; range, 24-48 months) after injury.
