DAXX (Death Domain Associated Protein 6) is frequently upregulated in various common cancers, and its suppression has been linked to reduced tumor progression. Consequently, DAXX has gained significant interest as a therapeutic target in such cancers. DAXX is known to function in several critical biological pathways including chromatin remodelling, transcription regulation, and DNA repair.

Background: Cord blood leptin and adiponectin are adipokines known to be associated with birth weight and overall infant adiposity. However, few studies have investigated their associations with abdominal adiposity in neonates. We examined maternal factors associated with cord blood leptin and adiponectin, and the association of these adipokines with neonatal adiposity and abdominal fat distribution measured by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in an Asian mother-offspring cohort.

Background: Hepatic resection (HR) results in an inflammatory response that can be modified by perioperative steroid administration. However, it remains to be determined if this response's attenuation translates to a reduction in complications.

Poland's syndrome (PS) is a rare musculoskeletal congenital anomaly with a wide spectrum of presentations. It is typically characterized by hypoplasia or aplasia of pectoral muscles, mammary hypoplasia and variably associated ipsilateral limb anomalies. Limb defects can vary in severity, ranging from syndactyly to phocomelia.

Single Center Outcome of Multiple Births in the Premature and Very Low Birth Weight Cohort in Singapore.

Objective: The aim of this study is to compare neonatal mortality and morbidity in multiple and singleton preterm/very low birthweight (PT/VLBW) multiethnic Asian infants.

Study Design: Cohort study of 676 singleton and 299 multiple PT/VLBW infants born between 2008 and 2012 at KK Women's and Children's Hospital, the largest tertiary perinatal center in Singapore with further stratification by gestational ages 23 to 25 (Group 1), 26 to 28 (Group 2), and ≥29 (Group 3) weeks. Outcome measures included predischarge mortality and major neonatal morbidity.

Introduction and background Haptoglobin (Hp) is considered to be an antioxidant and protective against cardiovascular complications. Polymorphisms in the Hp gene interact with diabetes mellitus to affect the risk of vascular complications. Methods We review the updated literature about the protean role of Hp and Hp genotypes spanning genomics, molecular, translational and clinical studies.

Context: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is highly prevalent in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Thyroid hormone (TH) increases β-oxidation of fatty acids and decreases intrahepatic lipid content (IHLC) in rodents with NAFLD.

Objective: We investigated the possibility of low intrahepatic TH concentration in NAFLD and studied the effect of TH treatment in humans.
