April 2024

Department of Circulation and Medical Imaging, NTNU-Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway.

Naloxone is a World Health Organization (WHO)-listed essential medicine and is the first choice for treating the respiratory depression of opioids, also by lay-people witnessing an opioid overdose. Naloxone acts by competitive displacement of opioid agonists at the μ-opioid receptor (MOR). Its effect depends on pharmacological characteristics of the opioid agonist, such as dissociation rate from the MOR receptor and constitution of the victim.

Reduction-Induced Magnetic Behavior in LaFeO Thin Films.

Materials (Basel)

March 2024

Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL 32611, USA.

The effect of oxygen reduction on the magnetic properties of LaFeO (LFO) thin films was studied to better understand the viability of LFO as a candidate for magnetoionic memory. Differences in the amount of oxygen lost by LFO and its magnetic behavior were observed in nominally identical LFO films grown on substrates prepared using different common methods. In an LFO film grown on SrTiO (STO) substrate, the original perovskite film structure was preserved following reduction, and remnant magnetization was only seen at low temperatures.

Modulation of visual attention in the Visual World Paradigm relies on parallel processing of linguistic and visual information. Previous studies have argued that the human linguistic capacity includes an aspect of anticipation of upcoming material. Such anticipation can be triggered by both lexical and grammatical/morphosyntactic cues.

Insomnia symptoms and risk for atrial fibrillation - The HUNT study.

J Sleep Res

October 2024

Department of Circulation and Medical Imaging, Faculty of Medicine and Health, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway.

Studies on the effect of insomnia on atrial fibrillation risk in the general population are limited, therefore we investigated the association between insomnia and the risk of atrial fibrillation in a large-scale population-based study with valid atrial fibrillation measure. A total of 33,983 participants (55% women) reported their insomnia symptoms in the third wave of the HUNT study (between 2006 and 2008) in Norway, and they were followed for their first atrial fibrillation diagnosis until 2020 using hospital registers. Atrial fibrillation diagnoses were validated by physicians based on medical records and electrocardiograms.

Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a public health problem affecting millions of people worldwide. The intensity of the tibiofemoral contact forces is related to cartilage degeneration, and so is the importance of quantifying joint loads during daily activities. Although simulation with musculoskeletal models has been used to calculate joint loads, it demands high-cost equipment and a very time-consuming process.

The second largest family of oxide ferroelectrics, after perovskites, are the tetragonal tungsten bronzes (TTB) with the general formula A2A1CB1B2O. Cation disorder in TTBs is known to occur if the size difference between cations is small, but the impact of cation disorder on structure and properties has not yet been extensively addressed. In this study we investigate the effect of the size of the M cation, including cation disorder, on the crystal structure and dielectric properties in the two series BaMNbO (BMN, A = Na, K and Rb) and BaMNbTiO (BMNT, M = Ca, Sr).
