On the use of the healthy lifestyle index to investigate specific disease outcomes.

The healthy lifestyle index (HLI), defined as the unweighted sum of individual lifestyle components, was used to investigate the combined role of lifestyle factors on health-related outcomes. We introduced weighted outcome-specific versions of the HLI, where individual lifestyle components were weighted according to their associations with disease outcomes. Within the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC), we examined the association between the standard and the outcome-specific HLIs and the risk of T2D, CVD, cancer, and all-cause premature mortality.

pyMBE: The Python-based molecule builder for ESPResSo.

We present the Python-based Molecule Builder for ESPResSo (pyMBE), an open source software application to design custom coarse-grained (CG) models, as well as pre-defined models of polyelectrolytes, peptides, and globular proteins in the Extensible Simulation Package for Research on Soft Matter (ESPResSo). The Python interface of ESPResSo offers a flexible framework, capable of building custom CG models from scratch. As a downside, building CG models from scratch is prone to mistakes, especially for newcomers in the field of CG modeling, or for molecules with complex architectures.

Access to colorectal cancer screening for Pakistani immigrants in Norway - a qualitative study.

Background: The Norwegian colorectal cancer (CRC) screening program started in May 2022. Inequalities in CRC screening participation are a challenge, and we expect that certain groups, such as immigrants, are at risk of non-participation. Prior to the start of the national screening program, a pilot study showed lower participation rates in CRC screening among immigrants from Pakistan.

Comparison of 3 methods characterizing H2S exposure in water and wastewater management work.

This study evaluates the effectiveness of self-assessed exposure (SAE) data collection for characterization of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) risks in water and wastewater management, challenging the adequacy of traditional random or campaign sampling strategies. We compared 3 datasets derived from distinct strategies: expert data with activity metadata (A), SAE without metadata (B), and SAE with logbook metadata (C). The findings reveal that standard practices of random sampling (dataset A) fail to capture the sporadic nature of H2S exposure.

Interfibrillar phases and bonding in cellulose nanofibril (CNF)-based composites are crucial for materials performances. In this study, we investigated the influence of CNF surface characteristics, the guluronic acid/mannuronic acid ratio, and the molecular weight of alginates on the structure, mechanical, and barrier properties of CNF/alginate composite films. Three types of CNFs with varying surface charges and nanofibril dimensions were prepared from wood pulp fibers.
