Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, General Global China Railway Xi'an Hospital No. 319, East Section of South Second Ring Road, Beilin District, Xi'an 710000, Shaanxi, China.

Objective: To investigate the predictive value of placental growth factor (PlGF) for adverse pregnancy outcome in twin pregnancies at advanced maternal age.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 387 women with twin pregnancies who delivered at Northwest Women's and Children's Hospital between March 2020 and March 2024. The women were divided into a favorable outcome group (n = 249) and an adverse outcome group (n = 138) based on their pregnancy outcome.

Background: To date, the optimal timing for percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage (PTGBD), particularly for patients who have missed the optimal window for emergency laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) (within 72 hours of symptom onset) has not been determined.

Aim: To study the effects of LC timing on outcomes of grade II/III acute cholecystitis (AC) in patients with delayed PTGBD.

Methods: Data of patients diagnosed with Tokyo Guidelines 2018 grade II or III AC who underwent delayed PTGBD followed by LC at a single hospital between 2018 and 2022 were retrospectively studied.

Article Synopsis
  • Lumbar disc herniation (LDH) is a prevalent source of lower back pain and sciatica, with posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) being a standard treatment method, prompting a study on predicting blood transfusion needs during surgery.
  • This study involved 6,241 patients across 22 medical centers in China and utilized various machine learning techniques to create an optimal predictive model for intraoperative blood transfusion using robust evaluation methods.
  • The best-performing model, a simulated annealing support vector machine recursive + stacking model, achieved an area under the curve of 0.884, leading to the creation of a publicly accessible web calculator to aid clinicians in decision-making and improve patient management.

Background: Glioma is the most common malignant tumor of the central nervous system, and is characterized by high recurrence, poor prognosis and especially complex pathogenesis. The synaptic plasticity-related protein DLGAP3 is mainly involved in the assembly and function of postsynaptic density complex. It's widely known that DLGAP3 participating in the occurrence of various neuropsychiatric diseases, but its role in glioma tumorigenesis remains largely unclear.

Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • - The research focuses on developing a clinical model to predict which patients undergoing posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) for lumbar spinal stenosis are likely to experience prolonged surgical times, which can lead to complications and affect recovery.
  • - A total of 3,233 patients from 22 hospitals in China from 2015 to 2022 were included in the study, and their data was analyzed using machine-learning techniques to identify key factors associated with longer surgery durations.
  • - The study utilized a training cohort and four test groups, applying various algorithms and performance evaluations to create a predictive model, ultimately aiming to enhance patient safety and surgical outcomes.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of paclitaxel and cisplatin (TP regimen) combined with intraperitoneal hyperthermic perfusion chemotherapy on immune function and quality of life in patients with advanced ovarian cancer.

Methods: This retrospective study involved 107 patients with advanced ovarian cancer who were treated in Baoji Central Hospital between March 2016 and March 2020. The control group was treated with the TP regimen alone (n=48), while the observation group received additional intraperitoneal heat infusion chemotherapy containing 60 mg of cisplatin on the 8th day following the final chemotherapy (n=59).

Objective: To investigate the value of serum markers in assessing mucosal healing (MH) and inflammatory activity in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Methods: In this retrospective analysis, we examined data from 320 IBD patients, including 176 with ulcerative colitis (UC) and 144 with Crohn's disease (CD), alongside 100 healthy controls during the same period. Serum levels of various markers, including white blood cell (WBC), platelet count (PLT), C-reactive protein (CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) were evaluated.

Background: Glioblastoma (GBM) is a malignant astrocytic tumor and its progression involves the regulation of vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGFA). However, the mechanism of VEGFA in regulating GBM progression remains unclear.

Methods: VEGFA mRNA expression was analyzed by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction.

Background: Glioma (GBM) is the most prevalent malignancy worldwide with high morbidity and mortality. Exosome-mediated transfer of long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) has been reported to be associated with human cancers, containing GBM. Meanwhile, myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) play a vital role in mediating the immunosuppressive environments in GBM.

One of the main goals of medicinal chemistry in recent years has been the development of new enzyme inhibitors and anti-cancer medicines. The isokaempferide' ability to inhibit the enzymes urease, elastase, and collagenase were also studied. The results showed that isokaempferide was the most effective compound against the assigned enzymes, with IC values of 23.

NRF2 mutation enhances the immune escape of hepatocellular carcinoma by reducing STING activation.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun

February 2024

Department of Oncological Surgery, Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, Shaanxi, 710068, China. Electronic address:

The nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2) is a transcription factor usually hyperactivated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In addition, about 14 % of HCC patients carry mutation in NRF2 or Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1), a NRF2 inhibitor, both of which lead to constitutive activation of NRF2. It has been widely reported that NRF2 plays important roles in the proliferation, differentiation and metastasis of tumor cells.

BACKGROUND The present study was performed to determine the potential risk factors for postoperative knee stiffness in patients with anteromedial knee osteoarthritis undergoing unicompartmental knee arthroplasty with cemented prostheses. MATERIAL AND METHODS This retrospective cohort study evaluated patients with anteromedial knee osteoarthritis who underwent medial unicompartmental knee arthroplasty at our hospital between May 2017 and May 2020. The patients were divided into 2 groups according to their prognosis: those who experienced knee stiffness after undergoing unicompartmental knee arthroplasty and those who did not.

Background: Polyp size of 10 mm is insufficient to discriminate neoplastic and non-neoplastic risk in patients with gallbladder polyps (GPs). The aim of the study is to develop a Bayesian network (BN) prediction model to identify neoplastic polyps and create more precise criteria for surgical indications in patients with GPs lager than 10 mm based on preoperative ultrasound features.

Methods: A BN prediction model was established and validated based on the independent risk variables using data from 759 patients with GPs who underwent cholecystectomy from January 2015 to August 2022 at 11 tertiary hospitals in China.
