SARS-CoV-2 utilizes the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptors located on membranes to enter host cells. Nevertheless, the gene primarily encodes for a zinc metalloproteinase, which is a part of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS). ACE2 downregulation results in the deregulation of RAS in favor of pro-fibrosis, pro-apoptosis, oxidative stress, pro-inflammation, aldosterone production and release, and blood vessel contraction axis.

Chromosomal rearrangements and recurrent gene fusions were previously presumed to be the primary oncogenic mechanisms of hematological malignancies. However, the discovery of gene fusions in different cancers has opened new horizons to comprehensively investigate how cell type-specific fusion oncoproteins modulate signaling cascades. Prostate cancer (PCa) is a multifaceted and therapeutically challenging disease, and functional genomics have helped us develop a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying prostate carcinogenesis, castration-resistant PCa, and metastasis.

Background/objectives: While multiple studies have investigated antibiotic consumption rates, there are few studies on the consumption of systemic antifungals and antiprotozoals. This study aims to fill this gap by providing a comprehensive analysis of nationwide consumption trends in Kazakhstan over a seven-year period (2017-2023).
Methods: Defined daily doses per 1000 inhabitants per day were calculated for systemic antifungals (J02 code of the Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical Classification System (ATC)) and antiprotozoals (P01 code of the ATC).

The clinical case we presented demonstrates the rapid transformation of MDS into acute myeloid leukemia in a relatively young patient whose prognosis turned out to be poorly predictable despite a change in therapy.

Background: The biggest health problem in most developed countries of the world, including Kazakhstan, is high morbidity and death rates due to cardiovascular diseases (CVD), both in urban and rural areas. As is known during the outbreak of COVID-19, the inaccessibility of many medical services played a big role in the incidence of CVD, in particular in the northern regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan (KZ). The objective of our research was to analyze the prevalence of CVD in city and village regions of the northern regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, considering the outbreak period with forecasting.

: The coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has posed a serious threat to humanity and is considered a global health emergency. Antimalarial drugs (ADs) have been used in the treatment of immuno-inflammatory arthritis (IIA) and coronavirus infection (COVID-19). The aim of this review is to analyze the current knowledge about the immunomodulatory and antiviral mechanisms of action, characteristics of use, and side effects of antimalarial drugs.

Progress in the identification of core multi-protein modules within JAK/STAT pathway has enabled researchers to develop a better understanding of the linchpin role of deregulated signaling cascade in carcinogenesis and metastasis. More excitingly, complex interplay between JAK/STAT pathway and non-coding RNAs has been shown to reprogramme the outcome of signaling cascade and modulate immunological responses within tumor microenvironment. Wealth of information has comprehensively illustrated that most of this complexity regulates the re-shaping of the immunological responses.

Objective: The primary objective is to study the impact of gut microbiota and their interactions with diverse immunological markers on the development of rheumatoid arthritis.
Methods: This study was performed in Astana, Kazakhstan, and included 77 Kazakh female patients older than 18 years, who met the American College of Rheumatology 2010 classification criteria for rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and 113 healthy controls. The DNA was extracted from fecal samples obtained from all study participants for subsequent sequencing at the 16S rRNA gene V1-V3 locus, facilitating the analysis of the gut microbiome.

Cervical cancer (CC) continues to be a significant global health issue, which in part can be attributed to disparities in access to CC screening services. This study aims to conduct a trend of CC in Kazakhstan and to compare attitudes towards the screening program between women living in urban and rural areas. In the first stage, we conducted a trend study of CC indicators in Kazakhstan using official statistics.

Introduction: The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus has had an unprecedented impact on people around the world, particularly those who were suffering from autoimmune rheumatic diseases (AIRDs). The world community acknowledges the significance of COVID-19 vaccination in patients with autoimmune disorders and emphasizes the priority of this category to receive vaccination over the general population. Although many studies have been published since the first phases of vaccination all over the world, multiple related factors still need to be further investigated.

Transient receptor potential (TRP) channels have captivated tremendous appreciation as promising drug targets over the past few years because of central involvement in different cancers. Based on the insights gleaned from decades of high-quality research, basic and clinical scientists have unveiled how Transient receptor potential channels regulated cancer onset and progression.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method of preventive embolization of the internal iliac arteries using a liquid tantalum-containing ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer. In this nonrandomized clinical study with a retrospective control group, 55 patients with aneurysmal lesions of the infrarenal abdominal aorta participated. In the course of this study, we developed and implemented a method of preventive embolization of the ostia of the internal iliac artery using a liquid tantalum containing ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer having viscosity of 34 centipoise.

Introduction: Spontaneous pregnancy loss (SPL) is a common health problem that affects 1:10 of childbearing women, and is linked with physical and psychological complications. As the number of nationwide studies on the incidence of SPL is few, especially from middle-income countries, in this study we investigated the epidemiology, complications and outcomes of SPL before 22 weeks of gestation by analyzing large-scale healthcare data from the Unified Nationwide Electronic Healthcare System (UNEHS) in Kazakhstan.
Material And Methods: A population-based study among women who experienced SPL in any healthcare setting of the Republic of Kazakhstan during the period of 2014-2019.

Bladder cancer is a therapeutically challenging disease and wealth of knowledge has enabled researchers to develop a clear understanding of mechanisms which underlie carcinogenesis and metastasis. Excitingly, research over decades has unveiled wide-ranging mechanisms which serve as central engine in progression of bladder cancer. Loss of apoptosis, drug resistance, and pro-survival signaling are some of the highly studied cellular mechanisms.

Recurrent pregnancy loss is a complex health challenge with no universally accepted definition. Inconsistency in definitions involves not only the number of spontaneous abortions (two or three) that are accepted for recurrent pregnancy loss but the types of pregnancy and gestational age at miscarriage. Due to the heterogeneity of definitions and criteria applied by international guidelines for recurrent pregnancy loss, the true incidence of recurrent miscarriage, which is reported to range from 1% to 5%, is difficult to estimate.

The inconsolable crying of a child for no apparent reason at an early age is a source of excitement and anxiety for parents. Previous studies have reported that crying may be caused by discomfort associated with the occupation of the intestines of the newborn by microbiota and its vital activity. We conducted a prospective observational study in which 62 newborns and their mothers were recruited.
