The advancement of irradiation technology has increased the demand for quality control of radiation therapy equipment. Consequently, the number of quality control items and required personnel have also increased. However, differences in the proportion of qualified personnel to irradiation techniques have caused bias in quality control systems among institutions.

Effect of the thyroid transcription factor 1 expression and treatment discontinuation due to adverse events on progression-free survival in patients with advanced non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer treated with pembrolizumab plus pemetrexed and platinum chemotherapy: a Japanese four-hospital, retrospective study.

Although a significant improvement in progression-free survival (PFS) has been reported in the thyroid transcription factor 1 (TTF-1) positive patients under treatment for non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NS-NSCLC), including immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy, the association between TTF-1 expression and adverse event occurrence remains unclear. Therefore, this study investigated the impact of TTF-1 and its adverse events on PFS during pembrolizumab plus pemetrexed and platinum chemotherapy for NS-NSCLC. Patients who received the pembrolizumab plus pemetrexed and platinum chemotherapy from 1/1/2018 to 12/31/2022 and whose TTF-1 expression was measured were included in the study.

Introduction: This study evaluated the performance of the albumin-lymphocyte-globulin-C-reactive protein (CRP) (ALGC) index as a novel prognostic biomarker for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after hepatectomy.

Methods: Patients (n = 178) who underwent hepatectomy for HCC (July 2010-December 2021) were analyzed. The ALGC index was calculated as ([albumin × lymphocyte]/[CRP × globulin × 104]).

Familial episodic pain syndrome (FEPS) is an early childhood onset disorder of severe episodic limb pain caused mainly by pathogenic variants of , , and , which encode three voltage-gated sodium channels (VGSCs) expressed as key determinants of nociceptor excitability in primary sensory neurons. There may still be many undiagnosed patients with FEPS. A better understanding of the associated pathogenesis, epidemiology, and clinical characteristics is needed to provide appropriate diagnosis and care.

Combination of sarcopenia and systemic inflammation-based markers for predicting the prognosis of patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy for pancreatic cancer.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of sarcopenia and inflammation on the prognosis of patients with pancreatic cancer after pancreaticoduodenectomy.

Methods: Eighty patients who had undergone pancreaticoduodenectomy for pancreatic cancer between July 2010 and December 2023 were included in this study. The psoas muscle index was used to assess sarcopenia.

A case of dumbbell-shaped accessory scrotum with concomitant lipoma.

Background: Accessory scrotum is a congenital scrotal anomaly that is usually located anterior to the anus and frequently presents with a lipoma in a bead-like shape. Herein, we present an unusual case of an accessory scrotum with a lipoma connected by a narrow stalk and located posterior to the anus.

Case Presentation: A 1-month-old boy was referred to our hospital for a perineal mass present at birth.

New-onset egg allergy in an adult: A case report.

Most adult cases of hen's egg allergy are carried over from childhood, and new-onset adult cases are rare. Such cases may result from cross-reactivity or sensitization by inhalation. Here we present a rare case of adult-onset egg allergy due to monosensitization to ovalbumin (Gal d 2) with an unclear sensitization pathway.

Preoperative Myosteatosis and Prognostic Nutritional Index Predict Survival in Older Patients With Resected Biliary Tract Cancer.

Background/aim: Sarcopenia accompanied by systemic inflammation is associated with poor prognosis in patients with cancer. This study evaluated the prognostic significance of sarcopenia (myopenia and myosteatosis) and systemic inflammatory markers in older patients (aged ≥80 years) with resected biliary tract cancer.

In this study, a coordinated national surveillance system for acute asthma hospitalizations and causative respiratory infections was established. We herein report recent trends in pediatric acute asthma hospitalizations since the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan.

Myoepitheliomas account for approximately 1.5% of all salivary gland tumors and arise most frequently from the parotid gland. Recently, a new myoepithelioma variant, called mucinous myoepithelioma, has attracted widespread attention.

[Two Cases of Endobronchial Metastases from Breast Cancer].

Endobronchialmetastasis(EBM)is a rare complication in breast cancer patients. Herein, we report 2 cases of EBM in breast cancer patients. Patient 1 had pulmonary metastases that were treated with hormone therapy and showed long survival after achieving a CR, while patient 2 had multi-organ metastases and died 42 months after the diagnosis of EBM.

The concept of platinum sensitivity could be applied to recurrent cervical cancer: a multi-institutional retrospective study from the Japanese Gynecologic Oncology Group.

Purpose: This study aimed at evaluating the applicability of the concept of platinum sensitivity to recurrent cervical cancer.

Methods: The clinical information of patients with recurrent cervical cancer, who were initially treated with platinum-based chemotherapy and received second-line platinum-based chemotherapy at the time of recurrence between January 2008 and December 2012, was retrospectively reviewed.

Background: Epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) are now key agents in treating EGFR-mutant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The efficacy of gefitinib or erlotinib monotherapy can be predicted by the development of a skin rash. However, it has not been fully evaluated if this is the case with afatinib monotherapy.

A phase II study of S-1 chemotherapy with concurrent thoracic radiotherapy in elderly patients with locally advanced non-small-cell lung cancer: the Okayama Lung Cancer Study Group Trial 0801.

Background: Although thoracic irradiation (TRT) is a standard treatment for elderly patients with locally advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (LA-NSCLC), treatment outcomes are poor. We previously reported a phase I trial combining S-1, an oral 5-fluorouracil derivative, and thoracic radiation, which yielded safe and effective outcomes.

Methods: In this phase II trial, 30 patients aged 76 years or older with LA-NSCLC received S-1 (80 mg/m(2) on days 1-14 and 29-42) and TRT (60Gy).
