IGF2BPs belongs to a family of conserved RNA-bound oncoembryonic proteins that play a crucial part in various aspects of cell function, such as cell migration, morphology, metabolism, proliferation and differentiation. Recent studies have shown that IGF2BPs play a role as a member of m6A reader. m6A is the most abundant modification in RNA epigenetics, which is closely related to a family of RNA-binding proteins.

Influencing Indicators and Spatial Variation of Diabetes Mellitus Prevalence in Shandong, China: A Framework for Using Data-Driven and Spatial Methods.

To control and prevent the risk of diabetes, diabetes studies have identified the need to better understand and evaluate the associations between influencing indicators and the prevalence of diabetes. One constraint has been that influencing indicators have been selected mainly based on subjective judgment and tested using traditional statistical modeling methods. We proposed a framework new to diabetes studies using data-driven and spatial methods to identify the most significant influential determinants of diabetes automatically and estimated their relationships.

Diffusion Kurtosis Imaging as a Prognostic Marker in Osteosarcoma Patients with Preoperative Chemotherapy.

Background: The accurate prediction of prognosis is key to prompt therapy adjustment. The purpose of our study was to investigate the efficacy of diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI) in predicting progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) in osteosarcoma patients with preoperative chemotherapy.

Methods: Thirty patients who underwent DKI before and after chemotherapy, followed by tumor resection, were retrospectively enrolled.

Acquired resistance is a barrier to cetuximab efficacy in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Secreted phosphoprotein 1 (SPP1) is involved in various biological processes, including immune responses, cancer progression, and prognosis in many cancers, while little is known in HNSCC. Bioinformatics methods were used to identify candidate genes and further in vivo and in vitro experiments were performed to examine and validate the function of SPP1.

Effect of up-regulation of circMATR3 on the proliferation, metastasis, progression and survival of hypopharyngeal carcinoma.

Increasing number of circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been reported to play important role in gene regulation, carcinogenesis and pathogenesis in various cancers. However, the biological functions and underlying molecular mechanisms of circRNAs in hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HSCC) remain elusive. Thus, secondary circRNA-seq profiling was performed to identify the differentially expressed circRNAs between HSCC tissues and adjacent normal tissues, and the expression level of circMATR3 (derived from human gene matrin3 (MATR3), has_circRNA_0008922) was confirmed by qRT-PCR.

Disease causing poverty: adapting the Onyx and Bullen social capital measurement tool for China.

Background: Disease-causing poverty is a serious problem in rural China, where social capital can mediate the disease-poverty relationship. However, there is no generally accepted reliable, robust and viable measure of social capital for China's unique socio-cultural context. This study adapts for China the widely used Onyx and Bullen social capital measurement scale and tests the validity and reliability of a modified Chinese Onyx-Bullen general scale, the Chinese Onyx-Bullen health scale, for a disease-causing-poverty subpopulation in rural China.

The association between chronic periodontitis and oral Helicobacter pylori: A meta-analysis.

Background: Epidemiological studies have shown that gastrointestinal Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is the main cause of chronic gastritis, but the relation between oral H. pylori and chronic periodontitis (CP) remains uncertain.

Hospitalization Costs and Financial Burden on Families with Children with Depression: A Cross-Section Study in Shandong Province, China.

Background: Depression, one of the most frequent mental disorders, affects more than 350 million people of all ages worldwide, with China facing an increased prevalence of depression. Childhood depression is on the rise; globally, and in China. This study estimates the hospitalization costs and the financial burden on families with children suffering from depression and recommends strategies both to improve the health care of children with depression and to reduce their families' financial burden.

Evaluating Family Planning Organizations Under China's Two-Child Policy in Shandong Province.

Background: The 2015 two-child policy was the most important institutional change in China's family planning since the 1978 one-child policy. To implement the two-child policy, China merged the former health departments and family planning departments into the new Health and Family Planning Commission organization. We collected and analyzed funding and expenditure data, providing a novel approach to assessing the family planning outcomes under China's two-child policy.

Catastrophic health expenditure of cancer patients at the end-of-life: a retrospective observational study in China.

Background: Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally, causing a substantial economic burden on cancer suffers and their families. The aim of this study is to explore the prevalence, determinants and consequences of catastrophic health expenditure (CHE) among urban and rural end-of-life (EOF) cancer patients in China.

Methods: Using respondent-driven sampling and face-to-face interviews, field research was conducted with a specialist questionnaire.

As such, a comprehensive molecular epidemiological survey of S. aureus along a pork production chain and in the community was undertaken in Shandong Province, China.

Quality of life in caregivers of a family member with serious mental illness: Evidence from China.

Purpose: To evaluate the quality of life (QoL) and social support among family caregivers of a family member with a mental illness and to identify factors associated with the QoL.

Methods: This is a cross-sectional study, where participants were recruited and independently interviewed using a questionnaire, consisting of demographic characteristics, the Medical Outcome Survey SF-36 form, and social support rating scales. Multiple stepwise regression analysis was used to analyse the factors related to QoL.

The Long Noncoding RNA TUG1 Promotes Laryngeal Cancer Proliferation and Migration.

Background/aims: Researchers have shown that long noncoding RNAs are closely associated with the pathogenesis of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC). However, the role of the long noncoding RNA taurine-upregulated gene 1 (TUG1) in the pathogenesis of LSCC remains unclear, although it is recognized as an oncogenic regulator for several types of squamous cell carcinoma.

Methods: qRT-PCR was performed to measure the expression of TUG1 in LSCC tissues and cell lines.

Hepatitis B vaccination among 1997-2011 birth cohorts in rural China: the potential for further catch-up vaccination and factors associated with infant coverage rates.

Hepatitis B vaccination rates in China have recently increased. This study aimed to investigate infant vaccination coverage for birth cohorts from 1997 to 2011 in rural regions and to assess catch-up vaccination potential. We used questionnaire-based interviews from a cross-section of 6,529 individuals from seven provinces.

Health state utilities and subjective well-being among psoriasis vulgaris patients in mainland China.

Purpose: To investigate the validity of direct and indirect health state utility (HSU) and subjective well-being measures in psoriasis vulgaris patients.

Methods: A convenience sampling framework was used to successively recruit patients with psoriasis vulgaris from the outpatient clinics of a tertiary hospital in Changsha, Central South China. Participants completed time trade-off (TTO), standard gamble (SG), the five-level EQ-5D (EQ-5D-5L), the WHO-5 well-being index, and the psoriasis disability index (PDI).

Identical genotypes of community-associated MRSA (ST59) and livestock-associated MRSA (ST9) in humans and pigs in rural China.

This study investigated the prevalence of MRSA in samples taken in households, with and without backyard pigs in villages in a rural area of Shandong Province, China. Community-associated MRSA and livestock-associated MRSA, belonging to ST59 and ST9, respectively, were identified in both humans and pigs. The genotypic and phenotypic comparison of isolates indicates that bidirectional transmission of MRSA has occurred between humans and pigs in the villages.

Study protocol for One Health data collections, analyses and intervention of the Sino-Swedish integrated multisectoral partnership for antibiotic resistance containment (IMPACT).

Introduction: To effectively minimise the emergence and dissemination of antibiotic resistant bacteria, a holistic One Health approach is called for. The Sino-Swedish Integrated Multisectoral Partnership for Antibiotic Resistance Containment is a cross-sectoral and integrated project on antibiotic resistance, conducted in Shandong Province in China. This paper outlines the overall study protocol for the project.

The E26 transformation-specific (ETS) family is one of the largest families of transcription factors. Upon activation by MAPK pathway, ETS participates in cell proliferation, differentiation, migration, apoptosis, and metastasis. However, the mechanism by which ETS is deregulated in cancer is unclear.

Surgical management of primary parapharyngeal space tumors in 103 patients at a single institution.

Purpose: To evaluate clinical features, diagnosis, surgical management, and treatment of parapharyngeal space tumors in a single-center setting due to limited knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of parapharyngeal space.

Methods: Clinical records of 103 patients were included for the analysis of such clinical characteristics.

Results: A total of 29 different types of tumors were diagnosed after operation: 20 benign and 9 malignant.

Assessing Knowledge and Attitudes towards Cervical Cancer Screening among Rural Women in Eastern China.

There is a heavy burden of cervical cancer in China. Although the Chinese government provides free cervical cancer screening for rural women aged 35 to 59 years, the screening rate remains low even in the more developed regions of eastern China. This study aimed to assess knowledge and attitudes about cervical cancer and its screening among rural women aged 30 to 65 years in eastern China.

Does the choice of tariff matter?: A comparison of EQ-5D-5L utility scores using Chinese, UK, and Japanese tariffs on patients with psoriasis vulgaris in Central South China.

There is an increasing trend globally to develop country-specific tariffs that can theoretically better reflect population's preferences on health states for preference-based health-related quality-of-life instruments, also known as multiattribute utility instruments. This study focused on the most recently developed 5-level version of EuroQol-5 Dimension (EQ-5D) questionnaire, 1 of the world's most well-known multiattribute utility instruments, and aimed to empirically explore the agreements and known-group validities of applying the country-specific tariff versus tariffs developed from other countries using a sample of psoriasis vulgaris patients in Mainland China.A convenience sampling framework was adopted to recruit patients diagnosed with psoriasis vulgaris from Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, China, between May 2014 and February 2015.

Comparison of EQ-5D-5L health state utilities using four country-specific tariffs on a breast cancer patient sample in mainland China.

Objective: The objective of this study was to compare the differences in the five-level EuroQol-5 dimensions (EQ-5D-5L) health state utility scores derived from Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and UK tariffs.

Methods: Six hundred and twenty-one breast cancer patients were invited for a face-to-face interview in Qingdao Municipal Hospital, China. EQ-5D-5L was scored using tariffs from China, Japan, Korea, and the UK.
