Effect of clonidine and magnesium sulphate on anaesthetic consumption, haemodynamics and postoperative recovery: A comparative study.

This randomised, placebo-controlled, double-blind study was designed to assess the effect of intravenous clonidine and magnesium sulphate on intraoperative haemodynamics, anaesthetic consumption and postoperative recovery. Seventy five patients undergoing elective upper limb orthopaedic surgery were randomised into three groups. Group C received clonidine 3 mug/kg as a bolus before induction and 1mug/kg/hour by infusion intraopertively.

A study on delivery and newborn care practices in a rural block of West Bengal.

Retiform hemangioendothelioma with lymph node metastasis: a rare entity.

Retiform hemangioendothelioma (RH) is a rare, recently described, unique kind of low grade angiosarcoma. The tumor is characterized by distinctive arborizing blood vessels that mimic the appearance of rete testis. The tumor chiefly originates from the skin and subcutaneous tissue and has a tendency to recur locally.

Hemophagoctic lymphohistiocytosis--recent concept.

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis is a rare condition characterized by highly stimulated but inactive immune response. The disease may be inherited or acquired due to infections, collagen vascular diseases and malignancies. The pathological hallmark of the syndrome is aggressive proliferation of macrophages and histiocytes.

Laryngocoele: our experince.

Klebsiella pneumoniae brain abscess in two neonates.

We report two premature infants who developed multiple brain abscesses following Klebsiella pneumoniae infection. Both the cases were diagnosed by ultrasonogram (USG) and cranial tomography. Abscess had intraventricular communication in one case.

Nutritional profiles of adolescents in a rural community of Hooghly district in West Bengal.

This community based study was carried out in Haripal Block of Hooghly district in West Bengal in 2005 to assess the nutritional status of the unmarried adolescents and 204 adolescents were studied. Neo-adjuvant chemotherapy with cisplatin and short infusional 5-FU in advanced head and neck malignancies.

Background: Combination of radical surgery and radiotherapy is the standard management of head and neck malignancies. But due to considerable morbidity of surgery and associated cosmetic and functional deficiencies, often aggravated by adjuvant radiotherapy, many patients prefer only radiotherapy with its' decreased chance of survival. Proper surgical facilities are also not accessible to most of our patients.

Immature teratoma with choriocarcinoma-like lesion of testis: case report of an unusual presentation.

An eighteen year old male presented with hemoptysis and superior vena caval syndrome. History and clinical examination revealed a testicular mass which was previously diagnosed as hematocele. Chest x-ray showed a four cm diameter shadow and several smaller shadows.

Small cell carcinoma of ovary: a rare pathology.

The recent biotechnological revolution in Molecular Entomology explores new promising tools for the control of vector borne diseases through genetic manipulation of vectorial competence. Thymolipoma--a case report.

A 28 year old male presented with a 8 months history of chest pain, cough and breathlessness. CT scan revealed a large mass in right anterior mediastinum showing fat and soft tissue attenuation. Histopathology of the resected mass revealed a tumour showing extensive areas of mature fat and relatively less interspersed thymic tissue confirming thymolipoma.

Role of GFR estimation in assessment of the status of nephropathy in type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Objectives: Study the status of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) estimation vis-a-vis other noninvasive modes of assessment of renal involvement in Type2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and assess the temporal profile of the prevalence of nephropathy with a cross sectional cohort.

Methods: A total of 100 patients of T2DM were selected after screening and segregated into 3 groups according to duration of T2DM. Duration of < 5 years constituted group A and had 31 patients, group B duration was between 5-15 years and had 40 patients, rest belonged to group C with duration > 15 years.

A study on arsenical dermatosis in rural community of West Bengal.

The spatial distribution of chronic arsenicosis due to consumption of arsenic contaminated tube well water in different districts of West Bengal was gradually unfolding since 1983.
