Secondary metabolites are gaining an increasing importance in various industries, such as pharmaceuticals, dyes, and food, as is the need for reliable and efficient methods of procuring these compounds. To develop sustainable and cost-effective approaches, a comprehensive understanding of the biosynthetic pathways and the factors influencing secondary metabolite production is essential. These compounds are a unique type of natural product which recognizes the oxidative damage caused by stresses, thereby activating the defence mechanism in plants.

Environmental contamination with a myriad of potentially toxic elements (PTEs) is triggered by various natural and anthropogenic activities. However, the industrial revolution has increased the intensity of these hazardous elements and their concentration in the environment, which, in turn, could provoke potential ecological risks. Additionally, most PTEs pose a considerable nuisance to human beings and affect soil, aquatic organisms, and even nematodes and microbes.

Microalgae are continually exposed to heavy metals and metalloids (HMMs), which stifles their development and reproduction due to the resulting physiological and metabolic abnormalities, leading to lower crop productivity. They must thus change their way of adapting to survive in such a hostile environment without sacrificing their healthy growth, development, reproductive capacity, or survival. The mode of adaptation involves a complex relationship of signalling cascades that govern gene expression at the transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels, which consequently produces altered but adapted biochemical and physiochemical parameters.

Objective: On the basis of a comprehensive assessment of the functional state of the intestine in acute mechanical small bowel obstruction, to justify adequate schemes of its protection.
Material And Methods: A clinical and laboratory study of 48 patients with acute small bowel obstruction developed against the background of abdominal adhesions, strangulated abdominal hernia was conducted. Chronic generalized parodontitis is one of the most prevalent disorders among diseases of oral cavity, making the search for optimal treatment modalities of this disorder one of the mostressing matters to this day. The purpose of this study was to assess outcomes of conventional therapy and secondary prevention of chronic generalized parodontitis with in combination with use of laser therapy and antioxidant drug treatment. The study is presented as a joint multi-site investigation conducted by the group of authors from St.

Cerebral ischemia is accompanied by damage and death of a significant number of neurons due to glutamate excitotoxicity with subsequent a global increase of cytosolic Ca concentration ([Ca]). This study aimed to investigate the neuroprotective action of BDNF overexpression in hippocampal neurons against injury under ischemia-like conditions (oxygen and glucose deprivation) and glutamate-induced excitotoxicity (GluTox). The overexpression of BDNF was reached by the transduction of cell cultures with the adeno-associated (AAV)-Syn-BDNF-EGFP virus construct.

The article is published based on the results of the Russian Consensus on the diagnosis and treatment of primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), discussed at the 44th annual Scientific Session of the CNIIG "Personalized Medicine in the Era of Standards" (March 1, 2018). The aim of the review is to highlight the current issues of classification of diagnosis and treatment of patients with PSC, which causes the greatest interest of specialists. The urgency of the problem is determined by the multivariate nature of the clinical manifestations, by often asymptomatic flow, severe prognosis, complexity of diagnosis and insufficient study of PSC, the natural course of which in some cases can be considered as a function with many variables in terms of the nature and speed of progression with numerous possible clinical outcomes.

Aim: The aim of this research was to study the effects of complex therapy with Remaxol inclusion on laparotomy wound tissue reparative process in patients with obstructive jaundice in early postoperative period.
Material And Methods: Clinical and laboratory studies were carried out in 55 patients undergoing surgery of the biliary tract, including 35 patients with mechanical jaundice of non-tumor origin and 17 of them received Remaxol (for 5 days daily intravenous infusions of 400 ml each) in the early postoperative period.
Results: It has been proved that mechanical jaundice is a significant complication in the reparative process of laparotomy wound tissue structures.

The interaction of a plethora nanoparticles with major biota such as plants and animals/humans has been the subject of various multidisciplinary studies with special emphasis on toxicity aspects. However, reports are meager on the transport phenomena of nanoparticles in the plant-animal/human system. Since plants and animals/humans are closely linked via food chain, discussion is imperative on the main processes and mechanisms underlying the transport phenomena of nanoparticles in the plant-animal/human system, which is the main objective of this paper.

Transcription activity of NF-κB in sensory neurons was analyzed in vitro using classical immunocytochemical methods and transgenic technologies. Activation of NF-κB in NIH3T3 cells and in murine sensory neurons after in vitro stimulation with TNF-α was demonstrated by the immunocytochemical method; however, the expression of the reporter NF-κB/LacZ transgene was detected only after addition of histon deacetylase inhibitor. Hence, formally contradictory conclusions from the results of immunocytochemical analysis and reporter transgene expression were in line with the hypothesis on epigenetic repression of NF-κB activity in sensory neurons mediated by histon deacetylases.

The present paper explores the role of erythrocytes in the pathogenesis of vascular diseases. The state of erythrocytes, their ionic composition and structure, and properties of erythrocytes hemoglobin were studied by using laser interference microscopy, Raman scattering spectroscopy, and capillary electrophoresis. In patients suffering from vascular disorders we identified statistically significant changes in the shape of erythrocytes, their ionic composition, and redistribution of hemoglobin throughout cells.

Nanoscale copper particles (nano-Cu) are used in many antimicrobial formulations and products for their antimicrobial activity. They may enter deliberately and/or accidentally into terrestrial environments including soils. Being the major 'eco-receptors' of nanoscale particles in the terrestrial ecosystem, soil-microbiota and plants (the soil-plant system) have been used as a model to dissect the potential impact of these particles on the environmental and human health.

Several parameters of blood coagulation-lytic system were estimated in an ischemic region of narrow intestine with anastomosis in absence of heparin therapy and after subcutaneous intraoperative heparin administration. Single heparin injection in high therapeutic doses (200 U/kg body weight) during the fi nal stage of surgery prevents not only thrombosis of mesenteric blood vessels, but to a certain extent intraperitoneal adhesions.

Experimental post-traumatic arthritis was accompanied by overexpression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and imbalance in the collagen metabolism. Intraarticular injection of mexidol prevented free-radical degradation of collagen structures, contributed to activation of collagen synthesis and cartilage repair, and reduced the severity of inflammatory changes in the joint and the degree of secondary alteration of tissue structures.
