Article Synopsis
  • A method was developed to model liver cirrhosis in male Wistar rats by performing a significant liver resection (about 70% volume).
  • After surgery, one group received ademetionine while the control group got saline; both had various tests conducted on them over a 14-day period.
  • Results indicated that the ademetionine group experienced notable liver dysfunction, with laboratory tests showing significant abnormalities, along with observable fibrotic, cirrhotic, and inflammatory liver changes that persisted beyond the testing period.

Synthesis and antimycotic activity of new derivatives of imidazo[1,2-]pyrimidines.

Beilstein J Org Chem

November 2024

Organic Chemistry Department, RUDN University, 6 Miklukho-Maklaya St., 117198 Moscow, Russian Federation.

The heterocyclic core of imidazo[1,2-]pyrimidine was formed in satisfactory yields as a result of the interaction of the readily available 2-aminoimidazole with -substituted maleimides or -arylitaconimides. The mechanism of the studied processes was postulated basing on experimental data, HPLC-MS analysis of reaction mixtures, and quantum chemical calculations. Molecular docking results of the obtained imidazo[1,2-]pyrimidines, when compared with voriconazole, a drug already in clinical use, suggest that they may possess antifungal activity against .

Article Synopsis
  • - Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disorder mostly affecting young women, with causes linked to genetics, environmental influences, and pathogen interactions that disrupt immune function and lead to chronic inflammation.
  • - Mitochondria are key players in SLE development as they regulate energy production, reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, and cell death pathways; their dysfunction contributes to immune dysregulation and increased inflammation in immune cells.
  • - Targeting mitochondrial function with drugs like sirolimus and N-acetylcysteine shows promise in treating SLE by restoring mitochondrial health, reducing oxidative stress, and improving immune responses, as evidenced by positive results in clinical and preclinical studies.

Visual impairment due to ophthalmological diseases significantly affects functional activity in everyday life, since good eyesight is crucial in daily activities. Data from 837 respondents were studied, allowing for analysis of such medical and demographic indicators as age, gender, level of education, visual acuity arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus. To measure functional status, the main activities in daily life (ADL) and instrumental activities in daily life (IADL) were evaluated using a modified version of the Katz scale and the IADL OARS scale.

Hydrogen has been shown to exhibit selective antioxidant properties against hydroxyl radicals, and exerts antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. The monocrotaline-induced model of pulmonary hypertension is suitable for studying substances with antioxidant activity because oxidative stress is induced by monocrotaline. On day 1, male Wistar rats were subcutaneously injected with a water-alcohol solution of monocrotaline or a control with an only water-alcohol solution.

Atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) develops as a result of damage to the endothelium of microvasculature vessels by Shiga toxin produced by enterohemorrhagic (STEC-HUS). STEC-HUS remains the leading cause of acute kidney injury (AKI) in children aged 6 months to 5 years. The pathomorphological essence of the disease is the development of thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA).

A Model of Acute Peritonitis.

Bull Exp Biol Med

September 2023

N. N. Burdenko Voronezh State Medical University, Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Voronezh, Russia.

The biological models used in the study of generalized peritonitis can be subdivided into 5 groups (introduction of foreign bodies, cultures of microorganisms, suspensions of feces, chemicals, and mechanical damage to the gastrointestinal tract) or into 4 groups (introduction of foreign bodies, chemicals, bacterial contamination of the abdominal cavity, and combined methods). After analysis of published reports, the most justified classification of methods of peritonitis modelling is based on the type of peritonitis-inducing agent and the administration route and on the nature of peritonitis developing in the abdominal cavity. The choice of the model maximally close reproducing clinical conditions of peritonitis should be based on the specific objectives of the study, focusing on the etiology, pathogenesis, and severity of the disease course, planned measures aimed at eliminating the process, and other factors.

In the context of improving cancer prevention programs, it becomes relevant to justify the introduction of regional HPV cervical cancer screening programs based on a study of the prevalence of human papillomavirus infection and cervical cancer. Aim: to identify the main patterns of the prevalence of human papillomavirus infection and cervical cancer in Bashkortostan and the Kaliningrad region for the scientific substantiation of the criteria for the adoption of regional screening programs. A prospective analytical cohort single-stage observational examination of 3428 women of the Republic of Bashkortostan and 1246 women of the Kaliningrad region was carried out, as well as a retrospective observational analytical study of cervical cancer incidence in Bashkiria and the Kaliningrad region according to the official statistics from 2011 to 2020 compared to Russian indicators.

The anemic syndrome at the stage of primary health care delivery on an outpatient basis is a risk factor for an unfavorable outcome in patients with chronic somatic diseases, primarily cardiovascular and oncological pathologies. In order to understand the true prevalence of anemia among outpatients it is necessary to improve the registration of patients with this disease. Aim: to analyze the features of managing patients with anemia in the primary health care system using a computerized patient monitoring system.

Millions of accidental and surgical injuries of soft tissues are registered annually around the world [5]. Untimely and insufficiently effective treatment of wounds in 50-70% leads to the development of purulent-septic infection and the development of septic conditions and fatal outcomes [1-4], which necessitates thorough study of inflammatory and regenerative processes occurring in the injured soft tissues. Various models of mechanical and thermal damage to soft tissues are proposed for studying the inflammatory and reparative processes, for assessing the therapeutic effects and developing new approaches to wound treatment.

Glucose concentration in the saliva is increased in type 1 diabetes mellitus. This parameter directly correlates with markers of the disease in the blood serum. Increased concentration of 8-oxo-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) and diene conjugates, markers of oxidative stress, and reduced activities of superoxide dismutase and catalase were also observed in this pathology.

Helicobacter pylori induced gastritis accounts for 70% of cases in the structure of this pathology. Features of the long-term inflammatory reaction of the mucous membrane are directly related to the mechanisms of bacterial pathogenicity, and features of immunogenesis within narrow limits of the specific tissue microenvironment of organ structures. Mast cells appear to be one of the key players (promoters) in the regulation of the inflammatory mediator cascade and the formation of cytokine-induced expression.

The effect of UV-light (240-390 nm) in doses of 151 and 755 J/m on the expression of membrane markers CD5, CD19, CD20 in human peripheral blood B cells was studied by flow cytometry. In 24 h after exposure to UV light, we observed activation of processes accompanied by structural rearrangements of B-cell membranes leading to changes in the expression of receptor molecules: the content of of CD19 and CD20 increased due to activation of the synthesis of these proteins, while the content of CD5 decreased. The percentage of CD5 cells decreased over 24 h after UV-irradiation of lymphocytes, while addition of autologous plasma to the incubation medium produced a photoprotective effect on CD5 cells.
