This paper discusses the influence of the structure of copolymers based on glycidyl methacrylate and alkyl methacrylates with C-C hydrocarbon side groups on the wettability and sorption properties of surface-modified chitosan aerogels. The grafting of copolymers onto the surface of aerogels was confirmed by elemental analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. As a result of the modification, with an increase in the amount of the hydrocarbon substituent alkyl methacrylate, the surface of the resulting materials became hydrophobic with contact angles in the range of 146-157°.

The present study continues the development and enhancement of a highly efficient unique hybrid technique-membrane-assisted gas absorption in designing the separation unit, which provides the improvement in mass-transfer of a target component during the ammonia capture process from a process loop of the Haber-Bosch technological route. In order to minimize the absorbent volume to membrane area ratio, the special separation cell was designed based on a combination of two types of hollow fiber membranes, dense gas separation membrane and porous pervaporation membrane. The separation performance tests were implemented under two sets of conditions, sweeping the bore (permeate) side of a cell with helium and hydrogen-nitrogen mix.

The swelling of a polymer membrane Nafion in deionized water and isotonic NaCl and Ringer's solutions was studied by photoluminescent spectroscopy. According to our previous studies, the surface of this membrane could be considered as a model for a cellular surface. Variation potential (VP) is an important long-distance electrical signal in higher plants that is induced by local damages, influences numerous physiological processes, and participates in plant adaptation to stressors. The transmission of increased hydraulic pressure through xylem vessels is the probable mechanism of VP propagation in plants; however, the rates of the pressure transmission and VP propagation can strongly vary. We describe an attempt to apply the concept of covalent binding towards the highly active allocolchicinoids selected on the basis of SAR analysis of previously synthesized molecules. To achieve the irreversible binding of the agent to the cysteine residues of the colchicine site of tubulin protein, we synthesized a number of new allocolchicinoids bearing the acceptor moiety. Some of the new derivatives possess cytotoxic activity against COLO-357, BxPC-3, HaCaT, and HEK293 cell lines in a low nanomolar range of concentrations.

The multi-electrode mapping method was used to analyze electrical activity of isolated rat heart under conditions of standard perfusion, pharmacological stimulation of fibrillation, and mechanical stretching of the right atrium both under normal conditions and before cardiac fibrillation. It was shown that stretching of the right atrium prevented the increase of repolarization dispersion and latency of the electrical signal in the myocardium that were observed before cardiac fibrillation.

We studied the effect of bilateral microinjections of selective pharmacological agents modulating glycine receptor activity into the medial preoptic nucleus on sexual behavior of male Wistar rats.
