Long-distance electrical signals (ESs) are an important mechanism of induction of systemic adaptive changes in plants under local action of stressors. ES-induced changes in photosynthesis and transpiration play a key role in these responses increasing plant tolerance to action of adverse factors. As a result, investigating ways of regulating electrical signaling and ES-induced physiological responses is a perspective problem of plant electrophysiology.

Bis(carbazolide) complexes M[3,6-tBu -1,8-(RC≡C) Carb] (THF) (R=SiMe , n=0, M=Ca, Yb; R=Ph, n=1, M=Ca, Yb; n=0, M=Yb) were synthesized through transamination reaction of M[N(SiMe ) ] (THF) with two molar equivalents of carbazoles. The complexes feature M(η -C≡C) structural motif composed of M(II) ions encapsulated by four acetylene fragments due to atypical for alkaline- and rare-earth metals η -interactions with triple C≡C bond. This interaction is evidenced experimentally by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy in the solid state and by NMR-spectroscopy in the solution.

The current investigation is focused on the development of composite membranes based on polymeric ionic liquids (PILs) containing imidazolium and pyridinium polycations with various counterions, including hexafluorophosphate, tetrafluoroborate, and bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide. A combination of spectroscopic methods was used to identify the synthesized PILs and characterize their interaction with carbon dioxide. The density and surface free energy of polymers were performed by wettability measurements, and the results are in good agreement with the permeability and selectivity obtained within the gas transport tests.

This paper reports the proceedings of a virtual meeting convened by the European Interdisciplinary Council on Ageing (EICA), to discuss the involvement of infectious disorders in the pathogenesis of dementia and neurological disorders leading to dementia. We recap how our view of the infectious etiology of dementia has changed over the last 30 years in light of emerging evidence, and we present evidence in support of the implication of infection in dementia, notably Alzheimer's disease (AD). The bacteria and viruses thought to be responsible for neuroinflammation and neurological damage are reviewed.

Local action of stressors induces fast changes in physiological processes in intact parts of plants including photosynthetic inactivation. This response is mediated by generation and propagation of depolarization electrical signals (action potentials and variation potentials) and participates in increasing plant tolerance to action of adverse factors. Earlier, we showed that a local action of physiological stimuli (moderate heating and blue light), which can be observed under environmental conditions, induces hyperpolarization electrical signals (system potentials) in wheat plants.

The aim of the present study was to provide a comprehensive characterization of whole genome DNA methylation patterns in replicative and ionizing irradiation- or doxorubicin-induced premature senescence, exhaustively exploring epigenetic modifications in three different human cell types: in somatic diploid skin fibroblasts and in bone marrow- and adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells. With CpG-wise differential analysis, three epigenetic signatures were identified: (a) cell type- and treatment-specific signature; (b) cell type-specific senescence-related signature; and (c) cell type-transversal replicative senescence-related signature. Cluster analysis revealed that only replicative senescent cells created a distinct group reflecting notable alterations in the DNA methylation patterns accompanying this cellular state.

Herein, we report for the first time a study dedicated to acidic gases' solubility in ionic liquids with sterically hindered bulky anion, namely bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate ([doc]), experimentally evaluated at low pressures. The effect of cation change (imidazolium, pyridinium, and pyrrolidinium) on the thermophysical properties and sorption capacities was also discussed. The densities and the activation energies of the tested ILs exhibited minor differences.

Parameters of illumination including the spectra, intensity, and photoperiod play an important role in the cultivation of plants under greenhouse conditions, especially for vegetables such as lettuce. We previously showed that illumination by a combination of red, blue, and white LEDs with a high red light intensity, was optimal for lettuce cultivation; however, the effect of the photoperiod on lettuce cultivation was not investigated. In the current work, we investigated the influence of photoperiod on production (total biomass and dry weight) and parameters of photosynthesis, respiration rate, and relative chlorophyll content in lettuce plants.
