There is evidence that BRCA1, particularly cytoplasmic BRCA1, plays a significant role in initiating apoptosis through various mechanisms. Maintaining the stability of BRCA1 in cancer cells may be a promising therapeutic strategy for breast cancer, especially in cases of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) lacking appropriate therapeutic targets. Previously, it was reported that cathepsin S (CTSS) interacts with the BRCT domain of BRCA1, leading to ubiquitin-mediated degradation.

Background: Effective interventions for overall healthy subjects with mild cognitive impairment are currently limited. Choline alphoscerate (alpha glyceryl phosphorylcholine, αGPC) is a choline-containing phospholipid used to treat cognitive function impairments in specific neurological conditions. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of αGPC in individuals diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment.

Population-based studies that examine the associations between hyperthyroidism and cancer risk have yielded inconsistent results. It remains unclear whether the risks of different cancers increase in patients with Graves' disease (GD) who received antithyroid drugs (ATDs) as initial treatment. We aimed to determine whether cancer risk increases in patients with GD, compared with controls.

Purpose: This study aimed to compare the surgical outcomes between bioabsorbable and metal screw fixation for distal tibial physeal fracture in children and adolescents, radiographically and clinically.
Methods: This study included consecutive 67 children and adolescents who underwent open reduction and internal fixation using metal or bioabsorbable screws for the distal tibia physeal fracture. All patients underwent preoperative radiographs, three-dimensional computed tomography scans, and postoperative follow-up teleradiogram.

Background: Robot-assisted nipple sparing mastectomy (RANSM) is emerging because it offers hidden incisions and ergonomic movements. In this study, we report the learning curve and feasibility of RANSM.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted among women who underwent RANSM with immediate breast reconstruction from July 2019 to June 2022.

Iodinated contrast is commonly used for radiological procedures, with one dose delivering several hundred-fold the daily requirements needed for normal thyroid hormone production. Risks of excess iodine include incident thyroid dysfunction, which is associated with adverse cardiac outcomes, yet there are no prospective studies investigating the changes in cardiac physiology following iodine contrast administration. This study was conducted to investigate the longitudinal relationships between the amount of iodinated contrast administration and changes in cardiac electrophysiology and structure.

Background: Patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) tend to be excluded or under-represented in randomized clinical trials evaluating the effects of potent P2Y12 inhibitor monotherapy after short-term dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT).
Methods: Individual patient data were pooled from randomized clinical trials that included STEMI patients undergoing drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation and compared ticagrelor monotherapy after short-term (≤3 months) DAPT versus ticagrelor-based 12-month DAPT in terms of centrally adjudicated clinical outcomes. The co-primary outcomes were efficacy outcome (composite of all-cause death, myocardial infarction, or stroke) and safety outcome (Bleeding Academic Research Consortium type 3 or 5 bleeding) at 1 year.

Importance: While nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) for breast cancer was only performed using the open method in the past, its frequency using endoscopic and robotic surgical instruments has been increasing rapidly. However, there are limited studies regarding postoperative complications and the benefits and drawbacks of minimal access NSM (M-NSM) compared with conventional NSM (C-NSM).
Objective: To examine the differences in postoperative complications between C-NSM and M-NSM.

For antinuclear antibody (ANA) screening, the gold standard method is an indirect immunofluorescence assay (IIFA) using HEp-2 cells, and a serial dilution test is needed to determine the endpoint titer. We aimed to evaluate the accuracy of the estimated endpoint titer (eEPT) by the NOVA View system, by comparing it with the EPT by the serial dilution method (dEPT). The endpoint titers of a total of 1518 ANA positive cases with five major patterns including speckled, homogeneous, centromere, nucleolar, and nuclear dots patterns were determined using both the estimation function and the serial dilution method by the NOVA View system.

Antipsychotic polypharmacy is commonly used in clinical settings, with a growing trend in using long-acting injections to mitigate many side effects of polypharmacy. A previous study demonstrated that long-acting aripiprazole once-monthly (AOM) injection increased treatment adherence, restored functionality, and improved symptoms. However, there is insufficient evidence to demonstrate the therapeutic effects of AOM in polypharmacy practice.

Objective: This study was performed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of lurasidone (160 mg/day) compared to quetiapine XR (QXR; 600 mg/day) in the treatment of acutely psychotic patients with schizophrenia.
Methods: Patients were randomly assigned to 6 weeks of double-blind treatment with lurasidone 160 mg/day (n=105) or QXR 600 mg/day (n=105). Primary efficacy measure was the change from baseline to week 6 in Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) total score and Clinical Global Impressions severity (CGI-S) score.

Objectives: The aims of the study were (i) to examine the changes in echocardiographic parameters and (ii) to compare the fate of myocardial segments with akinesia and without akinesia on preoperative echocardiography after coronary artery bypass grafting.
Methods: One hundred one patients who underwent complete revascularization, who were assessed by preoperative, before discharge, postoperative 3- and 12-month echocardiographic examinations, and who showed all patent grafts at postoperative 1-year angiograms were included. Echocardiographic left ventricular ejection fraction was assessed, and a 16-segment model was adopted for regional analysis of the left ventricle.

Tamoxifen, a pivotal therapy for hormone receptor-positive breast cancer, is known for its efficacy in reducing breast cancer recurrence and mortality. However, concerns about potential ocular complications, particularly maculopathy, have emerged. This study aims to investigate the risk and associated factors of diverse macular conditions in tamoxifen users, considering drug exposure, demographics, and systemic diseases.

Background: This study aimed to demonstrate the occurrence of lower extremity deformities and their risk factors in patients with solitary osteochondromas.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed consecutive patients with solitary osteochondromas around the knee. The laterality (left or right), involved bone (femur or tibia), tumor type (pedunculated or sessile), and direction (medial or lateral) were examined.

Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) have been a significant advancement in cancer therapy, particularly for urothelial cancer (UC). These innovative treatments, originally developed for hematological malignancies, use target-specific monoclonal antibodies linked to potent cytotoxic agents. This rational drug design efficiently delivers cancer cell-killing agents to cells expressing specific surface proteins, which are abundant in UC owing to their high antigen expression.

Iliac artery angioplasty with stenting is an effective alternative treatment modality for aortoiliac occlusive diseases. Few randomized controlled trials have compared the efficacy and safety between self-expandable stent (SES) and balloon-expandable stent (BES) in atherosclerotic iliac artery disease. In this randomized, multicenter study, patients with common or external iliac artery occlusive disease were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to either BES or SES.
