The effect of dexpanthenol on experimentally induced ovarian ischaemia/reperfusion injury: a biochemical and histopathological evaluation.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of two different doses of dexpanthenol (Dxp) onexperimentally induced ovarian ischaemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury ina rat model.

Study Design: Forty female rats were randomly divided into fivegroups: Group 1: sham operation; Group 2: 3-h ischaemia; Groups 3: 3-h ischaemia, 3-h reperfusion (I/R); Group 4: I/R + 300 mg/kg Dxp intraperitoneally (i.p) Group 5: I /R + 500 mg/kg Dxpi.

Repositioning intervals in the modified Epley's maneuver and their effect on benign paroxysmal positional vertigo treatment outcome.

Introduction: This study showed that short and long interval treatments achieved comparable success rates. There was no statistically significant difference in the rate of early and late recurrences between the two groups. Modified Epley maneuver can be applied in a short interval time with comparable success and recurrence rates which are as effective as in a long interval time.

[Comparison of triptans, NSAID and combination in migraine attack treatment].

Objectives: Headache during migraine attack may recur during a single attack. The present study evaluated efficacy of both individual and combined use of agents from nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and triptan groups widely used in treatment of migraine attacks.

Methods: A total of 201 attacks in 67 migraine patients were evaluated.

Sedation for Percutaneous Endoscopic Lumbar Discectomy.

Although anesthetic requirements for minimally invasive neurosurgical techniques have been described in detail and applied successfully since the early 2000s, most of the literature on this subject has dealt with cranial cases that were operated on in the supine or sitting positions. However, spinal surgery has also used minimally invasive techniques that were performed in prone position for more than 30 years to date. Although procedures in both these neurosurgical techniques require the patient to be awake for a certain period of time, the main surgical difference with minimally invasive spinal surgery is that the patients are in the prone position, which may result in increased requirement of airway management because of deep sedation.

Does the presence of anhydramnios affect the duration of medical abortion?

Objectives: The aim of the study was to determine whether anhydramnios affected the duration of medical abortion in cases with various indications as compared to cases with normal amniotic fluid volume.

Material And Methods: Patients who were admitted to our clinic because of medical abortion between January 2010-December 2013 were included in this retrospective study. A total of 32 pregnant women with anhydramnios (study group) and 67 pregnant women with normal amniotic fluid volume but with fetal abnormality (control group) were included in the study.

Background: Transport of casualties from a combat area to a fully equipped hospital where all techniques of damage control surgery (DCS) can be performed requires a great deal of time. Therefore, prior to transport, prompt control of hemorrhage and contamination should be achieved, and resuscitative procedures should be performed at the nearest health center. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of the location at which DCS was performed on rates of mortality.

Impact of antimicrobial drug restrictions on doctors' behaviors.

Background/aim: Broad-spectrum antibiotics have become available for use only with the approval of infectious disease specialists (IDSs) since 2003 in Turkey. This study aimed to analyze the tendencies of doctors who are not disease specialists (non-IDSs) towards the restriction of antibiotics.

Successful Management of Aluminium Phosphide Poisoning Resulting in Cardiac Arrest.

Aluminum phosphide has high toxicity when it is ingested, and in case of contact with moisture, phosphine gas is released. Aluminum phosphide poisoning causes metabolic acidosis, arrhythmia, acute respiratory distress syndrome and shock, and there is no specific antidote. A 17-year-old male patient was referred to our hospital because of aluminum phosphide poisoning with 1500 mg of aluminum phosphide tablets.

East Mediterranean region sickle cell disease mortality trial: retrospective multicenter cohort analysis of 735 patients.

Sickle cell disease (SCD), one of the most common genetic disorders worldwide, is characterized by hemolytic anemia and tissue damage from the rigid red blood cells. Although hydroxyurea and transfusion therapy are administered to treat the accompanying tissue injury, whether either one prolongs the lifespan of patients with SCD is unknown. SCD-related mortality data are available, but there are few studies on mortality-related factors based on evaluations of surviving patients.

Is It Possible to Maintain Consciousness and Spontaneous Ventilation with Chest Compression in the Early Phase of Cardiac Arrest?

Chest compression is important in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. However, life support algorithms do not specify when chest compression should be initiated in patients with persistent spontaneous normal breathing in the early phase after cardiac arrest. Here we describe the case of a 69-year-old man who underwent femoral bypass surgery and was extubated at the end of the procedure.

Safety and feasibility of lumbar spine for intralaminar screw fixation: a computed tomography-based morphometric study.

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the protective effects of erythropoietin, dextran/saline and erythropoietin in combination with dextran/saline on brain edema and lipid peroxidation following traumatic brain injury in rats.

Methods: In the study, 40 male 3-month-old albino Wistar rats, weighing 250-340 g, were divided into four groups, each consisting of ten rats. Traumatic brain injury was induced in all rats by the weight-drop method, and erythropoietin (5,000 U/kg) and/or dextran and saline (8 ml/kg) solutions were injected intraperitoneally ten minutes after trauma.

Methanol poisoning mostly occurs because of the methanol used in production of counterfeit alcohol instead of ethyl alcohol due to its low price or by drinking the liquids containing methyl alcohol. Intraoperative Ephedrine Allergy in a Patient Who Received Chemotherapy and Perioperative Hypersensitivity Reactions.

Anaesthesia represents a specific set-up in respect to pharmacology, and during this time, early hypersensitivity reactions or anaphylaxis may occur in patients who are exposed to a great number of foreign substances. Intravenous ephedrine (5 mg) was applied to a 37-year-old patient due to the development of intraoperative hypotension in a total abdominal hysterectomy operation. After application, hyperaemia was seen in the track of the intravenous catheter of that extremity.

Objectives: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the most common causes of preventable ischemic stroke and is related to increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. There is a lack of data in Turkey on the use of new oral anticoagulants (NOACs), and time in therapeutic INR range (TTR) in vitamin K antagonist users and AF management modality. SmartClamp circumcision versus conventional dissection technique in terms of parental anxiety and outcomes: A prospective clinical study.

Introduction: We prospectively analyzed parental anxiety and outcomes of the SmartClamp circumcision and the classic surgical dissection technique.

Methods: A total of 250 boys underwent circumcision between 2009 and 2012 at Kars State Hospital and Kafkas University Faculty of Medicine in Turkey. The initial 125 children were circumcised by conventional dissection method and the remaining children were operated on with a SmartClamp device.
