Article Synopsis
  • * Research indicates that the rhoA/rho-kinase pathway, which is activated by gentamicin, contributes to kidney damage similar to that seen in diabetes and renal ischemia.
  • * The study shows that administering the antioxidant alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) alongside gentamicin to mice reduced the damaging effects on the Rho/Rho-kinase pathway, suggesting that oxidative stress plays a key role in gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity.

Article Synopsis
  • In Türkiye, malaria was eradicated in 2010, but there are still imported cases, leading researchers to compare two rapid diagnostic tests for malaria detection: SD-Pf/Pan and SD-Pf/Pv, against microscopy and RT-PCR.
  • The study involved testing blood samples from 66 suspected malaria cases, with microscopy and RT-PCR confirming 30 positive cases, while both rapid tests showed high sensitivity and specificity results, with SD-Pf/Pan performing slightly lower on some measures.
  • The findings suggest that both rapid tests can effectively diagnose malaria, but results should be validated with microscopy and RT-PCR for accurate diagnosis.
