ANXA2 (Annexin A2 or Annexin II) is a calcium dependent phospholipid binding protein with diverse cellular functions. While ANXA2 is either absent or expressed focally in the prostate epithelium of well and moderately differentiated tumours, it is highly expressed in a subset of poorly differentiated tumours. Here we examined the association between ANXA2 expression and tumour progression, with consideration of ERG expression status and patient race (Caucasian American and African American).

Purpose: Prostate cancer is predominantly indolent at diagnosis with a small fraction (15% to 25%) representing aggressive subtype (Gleason score 7-10), which is prone to metastatic progression. It is critical to explore noninvasive assays for the early detection of this aggressive subtype, when it still can be treated effectively. Additionally, there is an emerging need to develop markers that perform equally well across races, as racial differences in the prevalence and mortality of prostate cancer has become evident.

(1) Background: The microRNA (miR)-directed control of gene expression is correlated with numerous physiological processes as well as the pathological features of tumors. The focus of this study is on the role of miRs in the regulation of RSU1 and proteins in the IPP (integrin linked kinase, PINCH and parvin) complex. Because the IPP adaptor proteins link β integrins to actin cytoskeleton, and the RSU1 signaling protein connects the complex to the activation of cJun, ATF2 and the transcription of PTEN, their reduction by miRs has the potential to alter both adhesion and survival signaling.

Although ~40% of screen-detected prostate cancers (PCa) are indolent, advanced-stage PCa is a lethal disease with 5-year survival rates around 29%. Identification of biomarkers for early detection of aggressive disease is a key challenge. Starting with 52 candidate biomarkers, selected from existing PCa genomics datasets and known PCa driver genes, we used targeted mass spectrometry to quantify proteins that significantly differed in primary tumors from PCa patients treated with radical prostatectomy (RP) across three study outcomes: (i) metastasis ≥1-year post-RP, (ii) biochemical recurrence ≥1-year post-RP, and (iii) no progression after ≥10 years post-RP.

Within the microenvironment of solid tumors, stress associated with deficit of nutrients and oxygen as well as tumor-derived factors triggers the phosphorylation-dependent degradation of the IFNAR1 chain of type I interferon (IFN1) receptor and ensuing suppression of the IFN1 pathway. Here we sought to examine the importance of these events in malignant mammary cells. Expression of non-degradable IFNAR1 mutant in mouse mammary adenocarcinoma cells stimulated the IFN1 pathway yet did not affect growth of these cells in vitro or ability to form subcutaneous tumors in the syngeneic mice.

Objectives: To investigate the association between CT imaging traits and texture metrics with proteomic data in patients with high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC).
Methods: This retrospective, hypothesis-generating study included 20 patients with HGSOC prior to primary cytoreductive surgery. Two readers independently assessed the contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) images and extracted 33 imaging traits, with a third reader adjudicating in the event of a disagreement.

State of the art treatment for myeloma involves using 3-drug combinations incorporating immunomodulatory drugs (IMiDs) and proteasome inhibitors (PIs). Clinical trials for 4-drug combinations incorporating monoclonal antibodies added to IMiD and PI based backbones are underway. Recent retrospective analyses show that patients who attain MRD negativity have similar long term outcomes regardless of early or delayed high dose melphalan with autologous stem cell support (HDM-ASCT).

Objective: To investigate racial disparities in uterine carcinosarcoma (UCS) and ovarian carcinosarcoma (OCS) in Commission on Cancer®-accredited facilities.
Methods: Non-Hispanic Black (NHB) and non-Hispanic White (NHW) women in the National Cancer Database diagnosed with stage I-IV UCS or OCS between 2004 and 2014 were eligible. Differences by disease site or race were compared using Chi-square test and multivariate Cox analysis.
Background: Preoperative chemotherapy is important in the management of women with breast cancer, with the ability to downstage the breast primary tumor and axillary lymph nodes. Long-term studies are needed to identify late toxicities, recurrence patterns, and equivalency with postoperative chemotherapy for recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS).
Patients And Methods: We conducted a single-institution prospective randomized control trial comparing preoperative or postoperative fluorouracil, leucovorin calcium, doxorubicin, and cyclophosphamides/granulocyte colony-stimulating factor chemotherapy for women with untreated clinical stage II (T1N1, T2N0, and T2N1) breast cancer.

Currently, genetic testing is offered only to women diagnosed with breast cancer who meet a defined set of criteria and is not included as standard-of-care treatment at the time of diagnosis. Thus, a significant number of women diagnosed with breast cancer may miss the opportunity for precision medical treatment and risk management. The effects of eligibility, timing, and uptake of genetic testing were evaluated in a cohort of women with invasive breast cancer diagnosed between 2001-2018.
