Key Laboratory for Soil Modification and Comprehensive Utilization of Mineral Soil of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Jining Normal University, Wulanchabu, 012000, China.

Two novel Tb(III) ternary complexes, [Tb(Phen)(p-BrBA)] and [TbY(Phen)(p-BrBA)], have been synthesized with p-bromobenzoic acid(p-BrBA) as the primary ligand and 1,10-phenanthroline(Phen) as the secondary ligand. The structures of these complexes are characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, thermal analysis (TGA) and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal structures of the compounds are similar because of similar radii of Tb ion and Y ion.

Article Synopsis
  • Cross-border transport significantly impacts air quality, and this study developed three techniques to quantify its contribution to particulate matter (PM) transport in the North China Plain (NCP).
  • Results showed that local emissions, inter-urban, and outer-regional transport were responsible for varying contributions to surface PM concentrations throughout the year, with notable peaks during specific months.
  • The study found that external transport influences the second peak of PM concentrations, while local emissions are more critical during the first and third peaks, highlighting the need for proactive emission control measures before extreme PM events.

February 2023

Sino-Dutch R&D Centre for Future Wastewater Treatment Technologies/Key Laboratory of Urban Stormwater System and Water Environment, Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Beijing 100044, China.

Calcium alginate (Ca-Alg) is a novel target product for recovering alginate from aerobic granular sludge. A novel Ca-Alg production method was proposed herein where Ca-Alg was formed in a sodium alginate (SA) feed solution (FS) and concentrated via forward osmosis (FO) with Ca reverse osmosis using a draw solution of CaCl. An abnormal reverse solute diffusion was observed, with the average reverse solute flux (RSF) decreasing with increasing CaCl concentrations, while the average RSF increased with increasing alginate concentrations.

January 2023

Department of Environmental Technology, Meijo University, 1-501 Shiogamaguchi, Tempaku-ku, Nagoya 468-8502, Japan.

The recycling of extracellular polymeric substances (EPSs) from excess sludge in wastewater treatment plants has received increasing attention in recent years. Although membrane separation has great potential for use in EPS concentration and recovery, conventional membranes tend to exhibit low water flux and high energy consumption. Herein, electrospun nanofiber membranes (ENMs) were fabricated using polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and used for the recovery of EPSs extracted from the excess sludge using the cation exchange resin (CER) method.
