Motor evoked potentials (MEPs) were studied in 28 patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy. MEPs after cortical stimulation were abnormal in 27 patients, the responses in the leg muscles being affected the most often. Clinically asymptomatic motor lesions were detected in 7 patients (25%).

Granulocytic sarcoma is a solid tumor associated with acute leukemia and myeloproliferative disorders. In this report we present a patient with a progressive sciatic pain due to an intradural granulocytic sarcoma fixed on the right spinal nerve root S1. The incidence and significance of central nervous involvement by granulocytic sarcoma are discussed.

A case is presented in which sensory ataxic neuronopathy developed after serologically proven infection with Rickettsia conorii and continued to be progressive after appropriate antibiotic treatment. Electrophysiological studies showed decreasing sensory nerve conduction velocities ending with the absence of sensory nerve action potentials as well as peripheral and cortical somatosensory evoked potentials. Histological studies revealed a profound loss of myelinated fibres due to primarily axonal degeneration.

A patient is described with myoclonic dystonia, a disorder characterized by a combination of dystonia and myoclonic contractions. A very good response to epidural cervical cord electrical stimulation was obtained. The findings in this case indicate that epidural cervical cord electrical stimulation could be a useful therapeutic approach in cases of myoclonic dystonia.

The case histories of two patients with an acute spinal epidural abscess are reported. When presented with a patient suffering from a spinal cord syndrome, the physician must keep in mind the possibility of a spinal epidural abscess. A rapid diagnostic procedure, prompt laminectomy, and medical treatment are particularly essential to total recovery in such cases.
