Background Cough in common cold is often associated with rhinorrhoea and nasal congestion, requiring treatment with a cough suppressant, decongestant, and antihistamine. Bilastine is a non-sedating antihistamine, a preferred option over sedating antihistamines. A combination of bilastine, dextromethorphan, and phenylephrine is expected to provide non-sedating treatment for cough associated with a common cold or allergy.

Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome - A Comprehensive Review.

Tarsal tunnel syndrome (TTS) refers to compression of the posterior tibial nerve as it traverses the tarsal tunnel in the ankle. First described by Keck and Lam in 1962, TTS is an underdiagnosed cause of heel pain and foot dysfunction. The tarsal tunnel contains the tibial nerve, posterior tibial artery, and tendons of the tibialis posterior, flexor digitorum longus, and flexor hallucis longus muscles.

Use and knowledge of the two FIGO systems for nongestational abnormal uterine bleeding in the reproductive years: A multinational survey.

Objective: To evaluate the worldwide use of FIGO's two systems for the classification of causes and contributors to nongestational abnormal uterine bleeding in the reproductive years by obstetrics and gynecology professionals worldwide, to identify knowledge gaps, and explore barriers to implementation.

Methods: An electronic survey was developed by members of FIGO's Menstrual Disorders and Related Health Impacts (MDRHI) Committee to assess knowledge of abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) and the two FIGO AUB systems among obstetricians and gynecologists. The survey was conducted online from February 28 to June 30, 2023, and comprised demographic questions, educational content inquiries, and a knowledge assessment.

Melioidosis rarely presents with spinal involvement, which may lead to neurological complications. It's endemic to Thailand and Australia, but rare in India. Patients with diabetes, immunocompromised states, and chronic renal failure are at high risk of developing melioidosis, which can present with localized or disseminated abscess collection.

Device therapies for heart failure with reduced ejection fraction: a new era.

Even with significant advancements in the treatment modalities for patients with heart failure (HF), the rates of morbidity and mortality associated with HF are still high. Various therapeutic interventions, including cardiac resynchronization therapy, Implantable Cardiovascular-Defibrillators, and left ventricular assist devices, are used for HF management. Currently, more research and developments are required to identify different treatment modalities to reduce hospitalization rates and improve the quality of life of patients with HF.

Sickle cell disease (SCD) with vaso-occlusive pain crisis (VOC) significantly impacts patient well-being and often results in extensive healthcare resource utilization. This study assessed the VOC burden, its management and its impact on patients' quality of life (QoL). A cross-sectional observational study was conducted between November 2021 and June 2022, including 1000 SCD patients from high-prevalence states in India.

Intraosseous regional antibiotic prophylaxis in total joint arthroplasty (TJA): Systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: A major catastrophic adverse event after total joint arthroplasty surgery (TJA) is the periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). In the recent years, regional antibiotic prophylaxis has gained momentum as a novel infection control strategy in total knee arthroplasty (TKA), with different purported benefits over systemic administration. The current article was planned to comprehensively review the available evidence in literature; as well as compare the safety and effectiveness of intraosseous (IO) antibiotic prophylaxis with systemic prophylaxis in patients undergoing TJA.

Feasibility of snapshot testing using wearable sensors to detect cardiorespiratory illness (COVID infection in India).

The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged the current paradigm of clinical and community-based disease detection. We present a multimodal wearable sensor system paired with a two-minute, movement-based activity sequence that successfully captures a snapshot of physiological data (including cardiac, respiratory, temperature, and percent oxygen saturation). We conducted a large, multi-site trial of this technology across India from June 2021 to April 2022 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic (Clinical trial registry name: International Validation of Wearable Sensor to Monitor COVID-19 Like Signs and Symptoms; NCT05334680; initial release: 04/15/2022).

Diet in Thyroid Disorders: A Survey among Clinicians and a Review of the Current Perspective.

Physicians and endocrinologists commonly face various questions related to dietary interventions during clinical encounters with their patients with thyroid disorders. Indeed, both patients and treating physicians have various misconceptions regarding thyroid-specific diets, possibly because of misinformation circulated in lay media or grey literature and the misinterpretation of contradictory scientific data, respectively. In this review, we attempted to answer some frequently asked questions by the patients in the backdrop of contraindicatory perceptions of physicians observed in our survey.

Comparison of Various Low Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Calculators: Is It Time for the Friedewald Equation to Go in India?

Background And Objectives: Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) is the main target in the management of dyslipidemia in primary and secondary prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Our study aims to compare the conventional and most popular Friedewald equation, and the more recent Sampson equation (literally unknown in India but more accurate), to the directly estimated LDL-c by the homogenous method. No such comparative study has been done in India.
