(OG) is a species rich in essential oils (EO), which is known for its antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. This study aimed to encapsulate the essential oil of (OGE), determine its chemical composition, and evaluate its antioxidant and antimicrobial activities against six pathogenic bacteria, comparing it with the free essential oil (OGF). The EO was extracted by hydrodistillation using a Clevenger-type apparatus, and an oil-in-water emulsion was prepared using a combination of biopolymers: maltodextrin (MA), cashew gum (CG), and inulin (IN).

Strongyloidiasis is a neglected tropical disease mainly caused by the nematode parasite Strongyloides stercoralis. Current treatment consists in the administration of ivermectin or, alternatively, albendazole (or analogues). Concerns regarding these drugs' irregular cure rates and side effects, raise a need for therapeutic alternatives.

Although Brazilian livestock is considered one of the most productive in the world, the losses caused by parasites still greatly limit these activities and its incorrect control through traditional synthetic chemicals has caused problems such as parasitic resistance. The present study evaluated the anthelmintic and acaricidal action of ethanolic extract (EE) and essential oil (OE) obtained from Achyrocline satureioides inflorescences against an endo and an ectoparasite of great importance in sheep and cattle. The action against Haemonchus contortus was evaluated by the Larval Development Test (LDT) and the Egg Hatching Test (EHT), while the acaricidal potential against Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus was evaluated by the Adult Immersion Test (AIT) and Larval Package Test (LPT).

Strenuous physical activity, sleep deprivation and psychological stress are common features of military field training. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of supplementation with a synbiotic ice cream on salivary IgA, gastrointestinal symptoms, well-being indicators and gut microbiota in young military participants undergoing field training. Sixty-five military completed the study: one group was supplemented for 30 d with synbiotic ice cream containing: 2·1 × 108 CFU/g for Lactobacillus acidophilus LA-5 and 2·7 × 109 CFU/g for Bifidobacterium animalis BB-12 and 2·3 g of inulin in the 60 g of ice cream at manufacture, and the other with a placebo ice cream.

Schistosomiasis is a tropical neglected disease whose socioeconomic impact is surpassed only by malaria. Until recently, praziquantel (PZQ) has been the only available drug, raising concerns that tolerant/resistant strains may appear. Since the discovery of the schistosomicidal potential of artemisinin (ART), new derivatives have been produced and evaluated.

Aims: This study aimed to characterize yeasts isolated from the environment of artisanal cachaça production and brewer's spent grain-bearing in mind their further application in bioprocesses.
Methods And Results: Cell morphology, growth and fermentative parameters, and karyotyping were employed for the selection and grouping of yeast strains. The results showed that from 134 yeast strains studied, 14·2% exhibited cells with snowflake morphology, which is not appropriate for bioethanol production.

Human schistosomiasis is an important neglected tropical disease caused by blood flukes of the genus Schistosoma and is responsible for more than 280,000 deaths annually. Treatment for this disease relies currently on a single drug, praziquantel (PZQ). Concerns regarding PZQ resistance and insensitivity of juvenile schistosomes have increased the interest in resorting to medicinal plants for alternative drug therapies.
