A photoluminescent terbium (III)-based Metal Organic Framework (MOF) was synthesized at room temperature by layer diffusion method utilizing mixed carboxylate linkers (4,4'-oxybis(benzoic acid) and benzene-1,3,5 tricarboxylic acid). Synthesized MOF has crystalline nature and rod-shaped morphology and is thermally stable up to 455 °C. The fluorescence emission spectra and theoretical results revealed that carboxylate linkers functioned as sensitizers for Tb(III) photoluminescence which resulted in four distinct emission peaks at 495, 547, 584, and 621 nm corresponding to the transitions D → F, D → F, D → F, and D → F.

The design and synthesis of polyhedra using coordination-driven self-assembly has been an intriguing research area for synthetic chemists. Metal-organic polyhedra are a class of intricate molecular architectures that have garnered significant attention in the literature due to their diverse structures and potential applications. Hereby, we report Cu-MOP, a bifunctional metal-organic cuboctahedra built using 2,6-dimethylpyridine-3,5-dicarboxylic acid and copper acetate at room temperature.

A water-dispersible Tb(III)-based metal organic framework (TBP) was produced by diffusion technique using benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid (BTC) and pyridine as easily accessible ligands at low cost. The as-synthesized TBP with a crystalline structure and rod-shaped morphology has exhibited thermal stability up to 465 °C. Elemental analysis confirmed the presence of carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, and terbium in the synthesized MOF.

Adsorptive removal of heavy metal ions from water is an energy- and cost-effective water decontamination technology. Schiff base functionalities can be incorporated into the pore cages of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) via direct synthesis, post-synthetic modification, and composite formation. Such incorporation can efficiently enhance the interactions between the MOF adsorbent and target heavy metal ions to promote the selective adsorption of the latter.

An ESIPT based fluorescent perimidine derivative oPSDAN was developed and characterized by H NMR, C NMR and mass spectroscopy. The study of the photo-physical properties of the sensor unveiled its selectivity and sensitivity towards Cu and Al ions. The sensing of ions was accompanied by colorimetric change (for Cu) as well as emission turn-off response.

Neglected tropical diseases as termed by World Health Organization include a group of 20 diverse infectious diseases in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Amongst these diseases, high mortality rate is mostly associated with Chagas disease and leishmaniosis due to limited drugs, severe toxicity caused by the available drugs and drug resistance. The above hitches have triggered the researchers to focus on the development of novel alternative therapeutics.

An In(III) based metal-organic framework (MOF), In-pbpta, with topology was constructed from the trigonal prismatic [In(μ-O)(HO)(OC-)] secondary building unit (SBU) and a custom-designed tetratopic linker Hpbpta (pbpta = 4,4',4″,4‴-(1,4-phenylenbis(pyridine-4,2,6-triyl))-tetrabenzoic acid)). The obtained MOF shows a Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area of 1341 m/g with a pore volume of 0.64 cm/g, which is the highest among the scarcely reported In--MOFs.

A donor-π-acceptor (D-π-A) chromophore, 2-amino-4-(9-ethyl-9H-carbazol-3-yl)-8-methoxy-5,6-dihydrobenzo[h]quinoline-3-carbonitrile (AEDQ) was synthesized from the condensation of 6-methoxy-3,4-dihydronaphthalen-1(2H)-one, 9-ethyl-9H-carbazole-3-carbaldehyde, malononitrile and NHOAc in ethanol. Spectroscopic techniques and elemental analysis were employed to establish the structure of AEDQ. Photophysical parameters and fluorescence quantum yield were calculated in the different polarity solvents to evaluate the interactions of the solvent with AEDQ chromophore.

Interpenetration in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) can have significant impacts on the structure, porous nature, and functional applications of MOFs. Considered to be disadvantageous in the initial phases leading to a decrease in surface area, interpenetration has proved to be highly useful for modulation of pore size and selective separation of gases. The importance of interpenetration has been realized over the last decade, and numerous approaches to graft interpenetration and utilize it for improved functions and applications have been achieved.
