Repressor element-1 silencing transcription factor (Rest) is not expressed in pancreatic beta cells and neuronal cells. However, Rest4, a truncated form of Rest, is expressed in high passaged MIN6 (HP-MIN6) cells, a pancreatic beta cell line that lost glucose-responsive insulin secretion. Rest4 is also expressed in injured MIN6 cells and isolated islets.

Small residue-mediated interhelical packing is ubiquitous in helical membrane proteins: however, the lipid dependence of its stability remains unclear. We previously demonstrated that the introduction of a GXXXG sequence in the middle of de novo-designed (AALALAA) helices (AALALAA AGLALGA AALALAA) facilitated their dimerization, which was abolished by cholesterol. Here single-pair FRET measurements revealed that a longer GXXXGXXXG segment (AALALAA A GLALGA AAGALAA) promoted helix dimerization in POPC/cholesterol bilayers, but not without cholesterol.

Background: Patellar height, which decreases after open wedge high tibial osteotomy (OWHTO), has conventionally been assessed by tibial references using lateral radiographs of the knee; however, changes in the proximal tibia shape after OWHTO may affect this method. We aimed to evaluate the changes in patellar height position relative to the transepicondylar axis of the femur after OWHTO using in vivo three-dimensional (3D) computer models.

Methods: Fourteen patients who underwent 3D magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at 30° and 50° knee flexion before OWHTO and after hardware removal were included.

The purpose of this research was to develop novel functional drug particles embedded in a gelling-swelling layer (PEGS) which are capable of achieving both taste-masking of unpalatable drugs and rapid drug elution. The functional particles had a three-layer structure consisting of a core drug layer, a gelling-swelling layer and an outer water-penetration control layer containing a water-insoluble polymer. The concept of formulation design was as follows: when water reaches the gelling-swelling layer, pulverized fine gelling-swelling particles gellate and swell from water absorption to form a rigid layer, thereby preventing drug release.
