Iron overload is one of the major prognostic factor in thallassemia patients. We aimed to evaluate iron accumulation in the heart and liver by MRI in thalassemia major, thalassemia intermedia, and S-ß thalassemia patients and to examine its association with ferritin and hepcidin levels. Serum ferritin and hepcidin levels were recorded.

Objective: No studies have been conducted in Turkey to compare the quality of stroke prevention therapies provided in different healthcare settings in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Therefore, we aimed to evaluate possible differences between secondary (SH) and tertiary hospital (TH) settings in the effectiveness of implementing AF treatment strategies.
Methods: Baseline characteristics of 6273 patients with non-valvular AF enrolled in the RAMSES (ReAl-life Multicentre Survey Evaluating Stroke Prevention Strategies in Turkey) study were compared.

Purpose: Age-related changes in lens elasticity and ciliary muscle contractility can affect how ocular parameters respond to cycloplegia, and therefore intraocular lens (IOL) power measurements calculated by formulas using anterior chamber depth (ACD), lens thickness (LT), or white-to-white (WtW) for effective lens position prediction can vary. In response, using swept-source optical biometry in prepresbyopic and presbyopic eyes, we investigated changes in ocular parameters and IOL power calculations attributable to cycloplegia.
Design: Cross-sectional study.

Objective: Atrial fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia and is associated with a five- fold increased risk of thromboembolic events. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the use of VKA, non-Vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOAC), and antiplatelet agents in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF).

Background: Only one diagnostic parameter is not available for acute appendicitis. For the establishment of diagnosis, combination of medical history, clinical, laboratory tests, and radiological imaging modalities are used so as to decrease the rates of negative laparotomy and morbidity secondary to delay in diagnosis. Thepresent study aimed to determine haematological and inflammatory markers which will be used in the discrimination of acute appendicitis (AA) and renal colic which are the most frequent and indistinguishable causes of abdominal pain in patients applying to the emergency service.

Idiopathic pulmonary hemosiderosis (IPH) is a rare disorder that should be considered in the differential diagnosis of patients with hemoptysis, recurrent alveolar hemorrhage, dyspnea and iron deficiency anemia (IDA). The frequent association of autoimmune disorders with IPH and a favorable response to steroids suggest the presence of an underlying immune disorder. Here we present a case of a patient with cough, fever, and cyanosis who was also diagnosed with IPH and concurrent selective immunoglobulin A deficiency.
