Clinical and Patient-Reported Outcomes of Direct-Acting Antivirals for the Treatment of Chronic Hepatitis C Among Patients on Opioid Agonist Treatment: A Real-world Prospective Cohort Study.

Background: Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) can help to reduce uncertainties about hepatitis C virus (HCV) treatment with direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) among people who inject drugs and increase treatment uptake in this high-risk group. Besides clinical data, this study analyzed for the first time PROs in a real-world sample of patients on opioid agonist treatment (OAT) and HCV treatment with DAAs.

Methods: HCV treatment data including virological response, adherence, safety, and PROs of 328 German patients on OAT were analyzed in a pragmatic prospective cohort study conducted from 2016 to 2018.

Diagnostic Accuracy of F-PSMA-1007 PET/CT Imaging for Lymph Node Staging of Prostate Carcinoma in Primary and Biochemical Recurrence.

Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-ligand PET/CT is performed on patients with prostate cancer to stage the disease initially or to identify sites of recurrence after definitive therapy. On the basis of clinical results, F-PSMA-1007 is a promising PSMA PET tracer, but detailed histologic confirmation has been lacking. Ninety-six patients with prostate cancer underwent F-PSMA-1007 PET/CT followed by either radical prostatectomy with lymphadenectomy or salvage lymphadenectomy.

Background: Modular stems are widely used in revision total hip arthroplasty (THA) with aseptic loosening being a common reason for revision. Despite the good results reported on the use of modular stem designs, there are only few studies focusing on aseptic revisions and few studies on a hexagonal stem design. The goal of this study is to determine stem survival, clinical and functional outcome along with possible risk factors for implant failure in aseptic revision THA.

Background: Intraoperative cultures are important in the diagnosis and targeted treatment of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). Positive cultures at reimplantation during a two-stage exchange are discussed as a risk factor for reinfection. The aim of this study is the investigation of the incidence and risk factors for positive cultures during reimplantation.

Infants Diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy and 4 SMN2 Copies through Newborn Screening - Opportunity or Burden?

Although the value of newborn screening (NBS) for early detection and treatment opportunity in SMA patients is generally accepted, there is still an ongoing discussion about the best strategy in children with 4 and more copies of the SMN2 gene. This gene is known to be the most important but not the only disease modifier.In our SMA-NBS pilot project in Germany comprising 278,970 infants screened between January 2018 and November 2019 were 38 positive cases with a homozygous SMN1 deletion.

Behavioral Conformity of Physical Activity and Sedentary Behavior in Older Couples with One Partner Suffering from End-Stage Osteoarthritis.

Purpose: The present study investigates behavioral conformity regarding physical activity (PA) and sedentary behavior (SB) in older couples where one partner suffers from osteoarthritis (OA). Hereby the question is addressed whether and to what extent the typical physical limitations of OA patients have negative effects on their partners.

Patients And Methods: The habitual PA and SB of end-stage osteoarthritis patients (n = 32, 52-81 years | n = 14 gonarthrosis, n = 18 coxarthrosis), their spouses (n = 32, 50-83 years) and control couples (n = 26 subjects, 52-78 years) were assessed by accelerometry.

Comorbidities and costs in HIV patients: A retrospective claims database analysis in Germany.

People living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLHIV) are at high risk of developing non-HIV related comorbidities, particularly at older ages. In a retrospective claims database analysis, we compared PLHIV to a matched, non-HIV cohort to assess the prevalence of comorbidities and healthcare costs in PLHIV and the general non-HIV population in Germany. In total, 2,132 adult patients with HIV were identified in the InGef research database with HIV ICD-10 diagnosis within each year from 2011 to 2014.

Comparison of efficacy of supraspinatus tendon tears diagnostic tests: a prospective study on the "full-can," the "empty-can," and the "Whipple" tests.

Purpose: This study compares the clinical results of the Whipple, empty-can, and full-can tests to detect supraspinatus tendon tears. We determined the sensitivities, specificities, and positive and negative predictive values of each test with respect to the intraoperative supraspinatus tendon lesion confirmation.

Methods: We examined 61 patients (26 women, 35 men) presenting for arthroscopic surgery with functional disability or persisting shoulder pain.

One Year of Newborn Screening for SMA - Results of a German Pilot Project.

Objective: Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is the most common neurodegenerative disease in childhood. The study was conducted to assess the impact of early detection of SMA by newborn screening (NBS) on the clinical course of the disease.

Methods: Screening was performed in two federal states of Germany, Bavaria and North Rhine Westphalia, between January 2018 and February 2019.

Reinfection With the Hepatitis C Virus in Men Who Have Sex With Men After Successful Treatment With Direct-acting Antivirals in Germany: Current Incidence Rates, Compared With Rates During the Interferon Era.

Background: Micro-elimination of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) includes treatment in populations at risk of ongoing HCV transmission, such as men who have sex with men (MSM) or people who inject drugs (PWID). We analyzed the HCV reinfection incidence rates of participants in the German hepatitis C cohort (GECCO) and compared our data to previous findings from the interferon era.

Methods: Patients with HCV reinfections in the multi-centric GECCO cohort were compared to patients in whom no reinfection occurred.

An integrative correlation of myopathology, phenotype and genotype in late onset Pompe disease.

Aims: Pompe disease is caused by pathogenic mutations in the alpha 1,4-glucosidase (GAA) gene and in patients with late onset Pome disease (LOPD), genotype-phenotype correlations are unpredictable. Skeletal muscle pathology includes glycogen accumulation and altered autophagy of various degrees. A correlation of the muscle morphology with clinical features and the genetic background in GAA may contribute to the understanding of the phenotypic variability.

Acceptable mid- to long-term survival rates and functional outcomes following a single design rotating hinge total knee arthroplasty.

Purpose: This study first analyzes implant survival of this single design modular rotating hinge knee and identifies potential risk factors for failure and evaluates joint function using the postoperative WOMAC (Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index) score, active flexion and extension deficit.

Methods: 131 prostheses implanted for failure of prior total knee arthroplasty (n = 120) or complex primary procedures (n = 11) using a single modular implant (MUTARS-modular universal tumor and revision system GenuX, Implantcast, Buxtehude, Germany) between 2006 and 2014 including 73 patients treated for periprosthetic joint infection with a two-stage revision protocol were retrospectively identified. Implant survival was assessed using the Kaplan-Meier method; potential risk factors were identified using the log-rank test, as well as non-parametric analysis.

Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) is underdiagnosed in Brazil. We enrolled patients from an adult service of Bronchiectasis over a two-year period in a cross-sectional study. The inclusion criteria were laterality disorders (LD), cough with recurrent infections and the exclusion of other causes of bronchiectasis.
