Purpose: Development of intelligence systems for bladder lesion detection is cost intensive. An efficient strategy to develop such intelligence solutions is needed.
Materials And Methods: We used four deep learning models (ConvNeXt, PlexusNet, MobileNet, and SwinTransformer) covering a variety of model complexity and efficacy.

Implant-related infections are a significant concern in orthopedic surgery. A novel anti-infective implant coating made of bioresorbable polymer with silver nitrate was developed. A controlled release of silver ions into the vicinity of the prosthesis can be triggered on-demand by extracorporeal shock waves to effectively combat all clinically relevant microorganisms.

Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is the leading cause of acute viral hepatitis. Numerous studies have investigated the dynamics of HEV infection markers, but the most suitable marker for diagnosing ongoing or recent HEV infection remains to be determined. Recent evidence suggests that serum antigen testing is superior to serum IgM and RNA quantification.

Background: Synovial leukocyte count analysis is an important tool in the diagnosis of PJI. However, results can be poor if metallosis is present. The issue of metallosis was established for some rotating hinge knee arthroplasty designs.

Background: Increasing antibiotic resistance has been reported as an issue in the systemic treatment of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). Linezolid offers the advantages of high oral bioavailability and little resistance; however, efficacy in the treatment of PJI varies considerably, and studies reporting consistent surgical treatment are scarce.
Methods: This is a retrospective, single-center analysis of two-stage revisions performed between 2008 and 2017.

Background: Sustainability and patient-centered radiology (PCR) include a multivariant, complex network of synergic and opportunistic elements. PCR is a subfactor of the social element, climate protection is part of the ecological element, and sustainable economics are part of the financial element.
Objectives: We aimed to identify PCR-symbiotic and PCR-opposed elements of sustainability using literature research.

Background And Purpose: For correction of leg-length discrepancy or angular deformity of the lower limb in skeletally immature patients temporary or permanent (hemi-)epiphysiodesis can be employed. These are reliable treatments with few complications. Recently, radiographic analysis of treatment-related alterations of the central knee anatomy gained interest among pediatric orthopedic surgeons.

Background: While off-the-shelf cones and sleeves yield good results in AORI type 2 and 3 defects in revision knee surgery, massive longitudinal defects may require a proximal tibia replacement. To achieve the best anatomical as well as biomechanical reconstruction and preserve the tibial tuberosity, we developed custom-made metaphyseal sleeves (CMSs) to reconstruct massive defects with a hinge knee replacement.
Methods: Between 2019 and 2022, 10 patients were treated in a single-center study.

Background: Antegrade femoral intramedullary nailing (IMN) is a common orthopedic procedure that residents are exposed to early in their training. A key component to this procedure is placing the initial guide wire with fluoroscopic guidance. A simulator was developed to train residents on this key skill, building off an existing simulation platform originally developed for wire navigation during a compression hip screw placement.

Background: The diagnosis of persistent infection prior to second-stage reimplantation in 2-stage exchanges for periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) can be challenging as there is no optimal diagnostic tool. This study investigates the usefulness of pre-reimplantation serum C-reactive protein (CRP) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) and its change between both stages to identify patients who have subsequent PJI.
Methods: There were 125 patients who underwent planned 2-stage exchange for chronic knee or hip PJI from a single center retrospectively identified.

Aim: To explore whether adjunctive antibiotics can relevantly influence long-term microbiota changes in stage III-IV periodontitis patients.
Materials And Methods: This is a secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial on periodontal therapy with adjunctive 500 mg amoxicillin and 400 mg metronidazole or placebo thrice daily for 7 days. Subgingival plaque samples were taken before and 2, 8, 14 and 26 months after mechanical therapy.

Purpose: Supra-acetabular bone loss close beyond the sciatic notch is one of the most challenging defect types for stable anatomical reconstruction in revision arthroplasty. Using reconstruction strategies from tumour orthopaedic surgery, we adapted tricortical trans-iliosacral fixation options for custom-made implants in revision arthroplasty. The aim of the present study was to present the clinical and radiological results of this extraordinary pelvic defect reconstruction.

Background: Chronic periprosthetic joint infection after revision hip and knee arthroplasties can lead to subsequent massive femoral bone loss. In these cases, resection of the residual femur and placement of an antibiotic total femoral spacer can be an option to salvage the limb.
Methods: This is a single-center retrospective analysis of 32 patients (median age 67 years; range 15-93; 18 women) who underwent placement of a total femur spacer for chronic periprosthetic joint infection with massive femoral bone loss between 2010 and 2019 as part of a planned two-stage exchange.

Leg length discrepancies (LLD) are frequently associated with coronal malalignment. Temporary hemiepiphysiodesis (HED) is a well-established procedure for the correction of limb malalignment in skeletally immature patients. For treatment of LLD > 2 cm, lengthening with intramedullary devices gains increasing popularity.

Anastomotic leakage (AL) after colorectal resections is a serious complication in abdominal surgery. Especially in patients with Crohn's disease (CD), devastating courses are observed. Various risk factors for the failure of anastomotic healing have been identified; however, whether CD itself is independently associated with anastomotic complications still remains to be validated.

Temporary hemiepiphysiodesis (HED) is applied to children and adolescents to correct angular deformities (ADs) in long bones through guided growth. Traditional Blount staples or two-hole plates are mainly used for this indication. Despite precise surgical techniques and attentive postoperative follow-up, implant-associated complications are frequently described.

The aim of this study was to assess the psychosocial burden in parents of children with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), detected by newborn screening (NBS), for which first pilot projects started in January 2018 in Germany. The survey, performed 1-2 years after children's diagnosis of SMA via NBS, included 3 parent-related questionnaires to evaluate the psychosocial burden, quality of life (QoL)/satisfaction and work productivity and activity impairment in the families. 42/44 families, detected between January 2018 and February 2020, could be investigated.

Background: Synovial fluid markers (synovial leukocyte count and differential) have been shown to be most accurate in diagnosing prosthetic joint infection (PJI). An inverse correlation for synovial leukocyte count and synovial pH is known assuming that leukocyte metabolism causes synovial fluid acidosis. This study's purpose is to analyze the use of synovial pH as a potential diagnostic marker for PJI.

Treatment of cystic fibrosis relies so far on expensive and sophisticated drugs. A logical approach to rescuing the defective ΔF508-CFTR protein has not yet been published. Therefore, virtual docking of ATP and CFTR activators to the open conformation of the CFTR protein was performed.

Proximal junctional kyphosis (PJK), as one of the most discussed problems after corrective surgery in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), is still not fully clarified and seems to be multifactorial. Biomechanical and a few clinical studies have shown the influence of destruction of posterior ligaments by resection of spinous processes and some parameters concerning rod contouring as risk factors for PJK. To verify these results, 192 patients with AIS and corrective surgery via a posterior approach between 2009 and 2017 were included.
