Retinal Vascular Changes in Vitiligo: A Novel Approach Using OCTA.

Purpose: This study aimed to the detect of structural and functional changes in the retina and choroid in patients with vitiligo using optical coherence tomography (OCT) and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).

Materials And Methods: Thirty patients with vitiligo and 30 healthy participants were enrolled in the study. Central macular thickness (CMT), retina nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness, choroidal thickness (CT), foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area, and superficial and deep vascular density (VD) ratios were compared between the groups.

Cognitive performance, psychiatric comorbidities, and quality of life in pediatric patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis: a comparative analysis with healthy controls.

Primary signet ring cell carcinoma of the breast: A case report and literature review.

Primary signet ring cell carcinoma (SRCC) of the breast is a rare and aggressive type of breast cancer characterized by increased intracellular mucin production. It has a high risk of metastasis and poor prognosis compared to other breast cancer types. We report a 56-year-old woman with primary SRCC of the breast who first presented with retraction on her left breast.

Orthopaedic patients' emergency department attendance behavior in relation to weather conditions: temperature, rain, day and time, and regional thursday effect.

Great variation was noticed in emergency department (ED) afflux in relation to daily weather conditions, including difficulties in arranging the correct number of orthopaedic on-calls on the floor. This study aimed to quantify the association between the number of patients referred to the orthopaedic team from the ED and weather conditions, particularly daily temperature and rain. Data were obtained from a large state research hospital's ED attendance.

The assessment of structural and functional test results for early detection of hydroxychloroquine macular toxicity.

Purpose: To assess structural (optical coherence tomography, fundus autofluorescence) and functional (contrast sensitivity and visual field) test results which were used for detecting early retinal changes in patients using oral hydroxychloroquine.

Methods: Patients using oral hydroxychloroquine for at least one year were divided into two groups according to the duration of drug use. Groups 1 and 2 consisted of patients with drug use for more than 5 years and 1-5 years, respectively.

Conjunctival Histopathological Changes and Clinical Tear Film in Children with Atopic Dermatitis.

Purpose: Evaluation of changes in the ocular surfaces in children with a diagnosis of atopic dermatitis (AD).

Methods: Thirty-six children with a diagnosis of AD (Eye-AD group) and 40 healthy subjects (Eye-HS group) were enrolled in this prospective case-control study. Tear film break-up time (T-BUT), Schirmer tear test (STT), conjunctival impression cytology (CIC), tear meniscus height (TMH), tear meniscus area (TMA), and ocular surface disease index (OSDI) were measured.

The Effect of Yoga on Premenstrual Distress, Quality of Life, and Stress Level.

The study aims to evaluate the effect of yoga on the premenstrual syndrome, perceived stress level and the quality of life. The study was conducted as a randomized controlled trial at a university in Turkey. A yoga group = 39, a control group = 41, total of n = 80 female students participated in the study.

The effect of the systemic immune-inflammatory index on the no-reflow phenomenon in patients undergoing saphenous vein intervention.

Introduction: The systemic immune inflammation index (SII), based on lymphocyte, neutrophil, and platelet counts, has been shown to be an independent indicator of no-reflow phenomenon during percutaneous intervention. However, the relationship between SII and no-reflow phenomenon (NRP) that develops after the procedure of saphenous vein grafts is unknown.

Aim: In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between no-reflow phenomenon and SII during percutaneous intervention on saphenous vein grafts.

The diagnostic value of serum hepcidin in acute appendicitis.

Background: Acute appendicitis (AA) is the primary cause of acute abdomen in patients presenting to the emergency department with abdominal pain. Limited studies have explored the relationship between serum hepcidin levels and AA. This study aimed to measure serum hepcidin levels in patients undergoing surgery with a preliminary diagnosis of AA and to assess whether these levels can serve as a biochemical marker for diagnosing AA.

Through a biopsychosocial lens, we examine the role of the gut microbiome in disease modulation and explore innovative therapeutic advancements, including microbiome-targeting interventions.

Alterations in the tear film and ocular surface in pediatric migraine patients.

Purpose: To evaluate the ocular surface (OS) parameters in the pediatric migraine patients (PMPs).

Methods: This prospective case-control study consisted of 51 PMPs (PMP group) and 55 healthy pediatric patients (HPP group). In all participants, tear function was evaluated subjectively using the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) questionnaire, objectively using Schirmer tear test (STT) and tear film disintegration time (TBUT), and with clinical and laboratory examinations (conjunctival impression cytology).

Background The aim of this study is to emphasize the need to be careful in terms of internal organ injuries in patients with isolated transverse process fracture (ITPF), and to investigate the effectiveness of corset use in controlling acute pain. Methods This is a retrospective study including 72 patients with only transverse process fractures secondary to trauma, who were admitted to the Emergency Department of Sakarya University Research and Training Hospital between January 2020 and October 2022. The radiological diagnoses were collected from spinal vertebral computed tomography images.

Assessment of Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice Patterns in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension among Cardiologists and Pulmonologists: Evidence from Turkey.

: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a rare chronic disease of the small pulmonary arteries that causes right heart failure and death. Accurate management of PAH is necessary to decrease morbidity and mortality. Understanding current practices and perspectives on PAH is important.

Retinal nerve fiber layer and ganglion cell complex thickness in diabetic smokers without diabetic retinopathy.

Purpose: To compare the thickness of the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) and macular ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (GC-IPL) in smoker and nonsmoker diabetics without diabetic retinopathy.

Materials And Methods: Patients with diabetes were divided into two groups according to their smoking status: Group 1 consisted of 38 smoker diabetics who had chronically smoked more than 20 cigarettes per day for more than five years; Group 2 consisted of 38 nonsmoker diabetics. After a detailed ophthalmologic examination, the mean and regional (superior, supratemporal, inferior, inferotemporal, temporal, nasal, superonasal, and inferonasal) RNFL and GC-IPL thicknesses were measured with spectral-domain optic coherence tomography (SD-OCT) and compared between groups.

The prevalence of penile calcification in the population remains uncertain. This retrospective multicenter study aimed to determine the prevalence and characteristics of penile calcification in a large cohort of male patients undergoing non-contrast pelvic tomography. A total of 14 545 scans obtained from 19 participating centers between 2016 and 2022 were retrospectively analyzed within a 3-months period.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy (EDCR) compared with transcanalicular laser DCR (TL-DCR).

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study and systematic review included patients that underwent DCR for nasolacrimal duct obstruction at our tertiary academic care hospital between January 2013 and December 2017. TL-DCR and EDCR were performed on 42 (group 1) and 45 (group 2) patients, respectively.

Methods: Eighty-two patients whom a radiologist with paranasal computed tomography definitively diagnosed with NSD were included in the study. 101 individuals without NSD were selected as HC.
