Background: Suboptimal stent delivery and deployment in calcified coronary lesions are associated with a poor clinical outcome.
Methods: Using the National Inpatient Sample database, we identified patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Comparison between procedural and hospital outcomes between patients who underwent atherectomy and those who did not.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is common in patients with left heart disease and is present in varying degrees in patients with severe mitral valve disease. There is paucity of data regarding outcomes following transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVr) in patients with PH. For this study, we analyzed NIS data from 2014 to 2018 using the ICD-9-CM and 10-CM codes.

Background: The outcome of endovascular intervention (EVI) compared vs. surgical revascularization in patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) due to chronic total occlusion (CTO) is unknown.
Methods: Using the National Inpatient Sample database between 2007 and 2014, we identified all PAD patients with CTO who had limb revascularization.

Background: Outcomes data on the use of cerebral embolic protection devices (CPDs) with transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) remain limited. Previous randomized trials were underpowered for primary outcomes of stroke prevention and mortality.
Methods: The National Inpatient Sample and Nationwide Readmissions Database were queried from 2017 to 2018 to study utilization and inpatient mortality, neurological complications (ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, and transient ischemic attack), procedural complications, resource utilization, and 30-day readmissions with and without use of CPD.

Aim: We sought to determine the racial and ethnical disparities in the delivery of TAVR and to evaluate the in-hospital outcomes and utilization of TAVR stratified by patient ethnicity.
Method: Using a national inpatient sample database between 2011 and 2015, we identified all adult patients who had TAVR. Races were identified and white race was set as control.

Impaired thermoregulation and heat intolerance may be intrinsic to autonomic dysfunction in Parkinson's disease due to disturbances in perspiration regulation. Thermoregulatory impairment leading to hyperthermia/heatstroke can be accentuated with the usage of anticholinergics, which block the ability to sweat. Oxybutynin chloride is one of the most used anticholinergic agents in clinical practice for the management of detrusor hyperreflexia secondary to neurogenic bladder dysfunction and is often used in the setting of Parkinson's disease.

Background: Transradial (TR) percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is a preferable PCI route. The complication difference between TR and TF approaches is controversial.
Methods: PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane databases were queried for PCI outcomes of TR TF in STEMI for major cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE), major bleeding, and mortality.

: Coronary artery calcification (CAC) is a pathological deposition of calcium in the intimal and medial layer of the arterial wall. A plethora of therapeutic calcium debulking techniques is available for the treatment of CAC, including orbital or rotational atherectomy, excimer lasers, cutting, and scoring balloons, which are associated with a soaring rate of complication and low efficacy. To this end, in 2016, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) posited that shockwave intravascular lithotripsy (S-IVL) technique can be employed with minimal complication.

Background: Literature on bioresorbable-polymer-stents (BPS) and second-generation durable-polymer-stents (DPS) in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for all comer CAD is conflicting.
Methods: Randomized controlled studies comparing PCI among BPS and second-generation DPS were identified up until May-2020 from online databases. Primary outcomes included are all-cause myocardial infarction (MI), cardiac-death, target-vessel-revascularization (TVR), target-vessel MI (TVMI), and stent-thrombosis (ST).

Objectives: To study the risk factors associated with 30-readmission postperipheral vascular intervention (PVI) in peripheral artery disease (PAD).
Background: There has been a paucity of data regarding the trend and predictors of PVI readmission.
Methods: We performed an observational cohort study of patients admitted with peripheral vascular disease for PVI using the NRD for the years 2010-2014.

Background: Increased incidence of kidney injury has been seen in patients with COVID-19. However, less is known about COVID-19 susceptibility and outcomes in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients on hemodialysis (HD). Reduced angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE-2) from SARS-CoV-2 binding and increased angiotensin II (Ang-II) activity have been suggested as mechanisms for COVID-19 renal pathophysiology.

Background: The gastrointestinal tract is sa well-known site for extranodal Non-Hodgkin lymphomas, with the stomach is known to be the most common site on lymphoma, primary gastric lymphoma (PGL). The lymphoproliferative disorder rarely occurs in patients with cirrhosis. We report a unique case of metastatic PGL in a patient with cirrhosis.

Background: Patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) were excluded from all major trials on the safety of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). This study aims to identify the predictors of mortality due to the rising rate of TAVR utilization and subsequent mortality in patients with ESRD.
Methods: The National Inpatient Sample (NIS) (2002-2017) was queried to identify all patients with ESRD undergoing TAVR.

The impact of diabetes mellitus (DM) on clinical outcomes of acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) following fibrinolytic therapy remains uncertain. We queried the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) for STEMI patients who received fibrinolytic therapy. Categorical and continuous variables were compared using the unadjusted odds ratio (uOR) and t-test analysis, respectively.

It is unknown whether endovascular intervention (EVI) is associated with superior outcomes when compared with surgical revascularization in octogenarian. National Inpatient Sample (NIS) database was used to compare the outcomes of limb revascularization in octogenarians who had surgical revascularization versus EVI. The NIS database's information on PAD patients ≥80-year-old who underwent limb revascularization between 2002 and 2014 included 394,504 octogenarian patients, of which 184,926 underwent surgical revascularization (46.

The relative safety and efficacy of aspirin versus dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT; aspirin+clopidogrel) in patients who underwent transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and did not have a long-term indication for oral anticoagulation remains controversial. Digital databases were searched to identify relevant articles. The major safety end point was bleeding, while the efficacy end points included after-TAVI ischemic and thrombotic events.

Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is an autoimmune liver disease characterised by the presence of autoantibodies including antinuclear antibodies, anti-smooth muscle antibody and hypergammaglobulinaemia. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a systemic disease that can affect multiple organs. Coexistence of AIH and SLE as an overlap syndrome occurs in about 1%-2.
