Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is defined by a set of components including hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and central obesity. Despite the well-established association between MetS and chronic kidney disease (CKD), a significant gap remains in our understanding of the relationship of kidney dysfunction with individual components of MetS, particularly in Nigeria.
Objectives: To determine the prevalence of kidney dysfunction among adults with MetS and to examine the relationship of key components of MetS with kidney dysfunction in Nigeria.

Background: Aspiration thrombectomy has gained popularity in patients with massive and sub-massive pulmonary embolism (PE) and having contraindications to thrombolysis.
Methods: A meta-analysis was conducted including studies on aspiration thrombectomy in patients with high-risk and intermediate-risk PE. The pooled odds ratio for efficacy parameters, including change in heart rate, blood pressure and right ventricle/left ventricle (RV/LV) ratio, and safety parameters including major bleeding and stroke, was calculated using a random effects model.

The global health sector has witnessed an escalating integration of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies, particularly in high-income countries. The application of these cutting-edge technologies is gradually extending to Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs), notably in the domain of cardiovascular care. AR and VR technologies are revolutionizing cardiovascular care by offering solutions for diagnosis, medical training, and surgical planning.

Atrial enlargement, commonly caused by chronic mitral regurgitation (MR) may be a source of compression. We present a case of a 53-year-old man with decompensated heart failure (HF) with a new onset of hoarseness.

Key Clinical Message: Aortic dissection is one of the rare complication of coronary angiography. The main treatment underlies surgical intervention however; management should be done with patient's decision.
Abstract: Coronary angiography (CA) is a widely utilized diagnostic procedure used to evaluate blood flow through the coronary arteries and detect coronary artery disease (CAD).

Background: The Amplatzer Amulet (AA) and Watchman devices (WD) are the 2 most frequently used devices for percutaneous LAA closure globally.
Objective: To evaluate the safety and clinical outcomes associated with these 2 devices in patients undergoing percutaneous LAA closure.
Method: We systematically searched all electronic databases from inception until February 21, 2023.

Unlabelled: Current guidelines have shown the superiority of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) over medical therapy. However, there is a paucity of data evaluating the optimal revascularization strategy in patients with ischemic left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD).
Objective: The authors aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of postpercutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and CABG among patients with LVSD.

Transradial access (TRA) and transulnar access (TUA) are in close vicinity, but TRA is the preferred intervention route. The cardiovascular outcomes and access site complications of TUA and TRA are understudied. Databases, including MEDLINE and Cochrane Central registry, were queried to find studies comparing safety outcomes of both procedures.

Aims: Long term cardiovascular outcome comparison of multivessel coronary disease among patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) is limited. The objective of this study was to compare the long-term cardiovascular outcome PCI vs CABG among DM patients with multivessel disease.
Method And Results: Online databases were explored to identify studies that compared cardiovascular outcomes between PCI and CABG among patients with DM.

Pericardial effusion leading to cardiac tamponade can occur due to a multitude of etiologies, one of which is medication adverse effects. In patients with comorbid conditions, this can prove to be a challenge in its co-management along with the primary disease. We present a rare case of anagrelide-induced pericardial effusion that is presented with tamponade physiology in a patient with essential thrombocythemia.

Background: We aim to conduct a comprehensive meta-analysis encompassing all studies to assess the efficacy of Vascepa in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) in preventing or treating existing coronary artery disease (CAD).
Methods: Digital databases were queried. Odds ratios (OR) were calculated for the following outcomes: composite outcome, all-cause mortality, and cardiovascular mortality.

Calciphylaxis is a rare and deadly vascular disease with poorly understood pathophysiology and without definitive treatment. Early presentations include skin ulcers with risk factors including end stage renal disease on hemodialysis, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes mellitus. In our case, we present an 80-year-old female with multiple risk factors including hemodialysis and clinical features of necrotic and gangrenous skin lesions diagnostic of calciphylaxis who became hemodynamically unstable and ultimately expired secondary to toxic sequelae.

Heart failure (HF) is a clinical syndrome with a wide spectrum of presentations and an even wider array of etiologies. Anthracyclines such as Doxorubicin, Daunorubicin, Idarubicin, and Epirubicin have demonstrated increased risk of HF with significant morbidity and mortality. We present an interesting case report of a patient with a history of breast cancer treated with Doxorubicin who presented with symptoms of HF who had a comprehensive evaluation that excluded the most common etiologies, narrowing our diagnosis to late onset doxorubicin induced HF with on-going recovery after initiation of guideline-directed medical therapy.

: Inflammation plays a pivotal role in the etiopathology of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), at least in a subset of patients. It is crucial to first establish which specific inflammatory biomarkers are of clinical utility. Anti-cardiolipin antibody (aCL IgM) is an inflammatory marker that has the potential to be such a candidate but there are insufficient studies to confirm this potential.

Newer generation transcatheter heart valves (THV) are presumed to yield better clinical efficacy and postprocedural complication profile as compared to transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) using older generation THVs. The real impact of newer generation valves on TAVR outcomes is not well known. Studies comparing older and newer generation THVs were identified from online databases including PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane, and ClinicalTrials.

Introduction: Although aortic valve replacement in severe symptomatic Aortic Stenosis (AS) are clearly outlined, the role of surgical intervention in asymptomatic severe AS remains unclear with limited evidence. The aim of our meta-analysis is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of early surgical aortic valve repair compared to conservative management.
Methods: A systematic literature search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, Embase and Cochrane databases for studies comparing the early surgery versus conservative management among asymptomatic aortic stenosis patients.

Background: Heart failure (HF) is a complex clinical syndrome with symptoms and signs that result from any structural or functional impairment of ventricular filling or ejection of blood. Limited data is available regarding the in-hospital outcomes of TAVR compared to SAVR in the octogenarian population with HF.
Methods: The National Inpatient Sample (NIS) database was used to compare TAVR versus SAVR among octogenarians with HF.

Introduction: Aortitis can be an initial presentation of many diseases, but most often include large cell vasculitis.
Case Presentation: We present a case of a 53 year old female who presented with a myriad of symptoms including abdominal pain, nausea, fever, and headaches. CT scan of the chest showed an inflamed aorta with an initial concern for a large cell vasculitis, but found later to be from her underlying acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
