Study of mechanisms by which antibodies recognize different viral strains is necessary for the development of new drugs and vaccines to treat COVID-19 and other infections. Here, we report 2.5 Å cryo-EM structure of the SARS-CoV-2 Delta trimeric S-protein in complex with Fab of the recombinant analog of REGN10987 neutralizing antibody.

Three-finger proteins (TFPs), or Ly6/uPAR proteins, are characterized by the beta-structural LU domain containing three protruding "fingers" and stabilized by four conserved disulfide bonds. TFPs were initially characterized as snake alpha-neurotoxins, but later many studies showed their regulatory roles in different organisms. Despite a known expression of TFPs in vertebrates, they are poorly studied in other taxa.

Secreted and membrane-tethered mammalian neuromodulators from the Ly6/uPAR family are involved in regulation of many physiological processes. Some of them are expressed in the CNS in the neurons of different brain regions and target neuronal membrane receptors. Thus, Lynx1 potentiates nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) in the brain, while others like Lypd6 and Lypd6b suppress it.

The venous excess ultrasound score (VExUS) is used to objectify systemic venous congestion. The aim of the paper was to determine the association between VExUS grades and worsening renal function (WRF), reduced natriuretic response, diuretics resistance, and mortality in patients with acute heart failure (AHF). One hundred patients were included, and Doppler ultrasound of hepatic, portal, and renal veins was performed.

Background: Analysis of existing mutations of Angiotensin-I-Converting Enzyme (ACE) led us to hypothesize that the carriers of damaging ACE mutations (accompanied by low ACE levels) could be at risk for the development of late-onset Alzheimer's disease (AD).
Methodology/principal Findings: We quantified blood ACE levels in EDTA-containing plasma from 15 patients with 11 different heterozygous ACE mutations and estimated the effects of these mutations on ACE phenotypes, using a set of mAbs to ACE and two ACE substrates. We confirmed prior observations that the relatively frequent Y215C mutation in the N domain of ACE (present in ~1% of the population) is associated with both Alzheimer's disease (AD) and reduced plasma levels of ACE (~50% of controls), indicating that it likely results in a transport-deficient protein.

This work provides a procedure and database for obtaining the vibrational frequency scale factors that align quantum chemically computed harmonic frequencies with experimental vibrational spectroscopic data. The database comprises 441 molecules of various sizes, from diatomics to the buckminsterfullerene C. We provide scale factors for 27 dispersion-corrected methods, 24 of which are DF-Dn/B with DF=BLYP, PBE, B3LYP, PBE0, Dn=D3(BJ), D4, and B=6-31G, def2-SVP, def2-TZVP, and three of them are the 3c-family composite methods (HF-3c, PBEh-3c, and rSCAN-3c).

Liver regeneration (LR) is a unique biological process with the ability to restore up to 70% of the organ. This allows for the preservation of liver resections for various liver tumors and for living donor liver transplantation (LDLT). However, in some cases, LR is insufficient and interventions that can improve LR are urgently needed.

Gelatinous drop-like corneal dystrophy (GDLD) is a rare autosomal recessive eye disease. GDLD is characterized by the loss of barrier function in corneal epithelial cells (CECs) and amyloid deposition due to pathogenic variants in the TACSTD2 gene. Limbal stem cell transplantation (LSCT) has been suggested as an effective therapeutic alternative for patients with GDLD.

The rapid and accurate estimation of aboveground forest phytomass remains a challenging research task. In general, methods for estimating phytomass fall mainly into the category of field measurements performed by ground-based methods, but approaches based on remote sensing and ecological modelling have been increasingly applied. The aim is to develop the scientific and methodological framework for the remote sensing estimation of qualitative and quantitative characteristics of forest stands, using the combination of surveys and machine learning models to determine phytomass of forest stands and calculate the carbon balance.

Cardiotonic steroids (CTSs), such as digoxin, are used for heart failure treatment. However, digoxin permeates the brain-blood barrier (BBB), affecting central nervous system (CNS) functions. Finding a CTS that does not pass through the BBB would increase CTSs' applicability in the clinic and decrease the risk of side effects on the CNS.

Capitellacin is the β-hairpin membrane-active cationic antimicrobial peptide from the marine polychaeta . Capitellacin exhibits antibacterial activity, including against drug-resistant strains. To gain insight into the mechanism of capitellacin action, we investigated the structure of the peptide in the membrane-mimicking environment of dodecylphosphocholine (DPC) micelles using high-resolution NMR spectroscopy.

Silica-supported chromium oxide catalysts, also named Phillips chromium catalysts (PCCs), provide more than half of the world's production of high- and medium-density polyethylenes. PCCs are usually prepared in the Cr(VI)/SiO form, which is subjected to reductive activation. It has been explicitly proven that CO reduces Cr(VI) to Cr(II) species that initiate ethylene polymerization; ethylene activates Cr(VI) sites as well, but the nature of the catalytic species is complicated by the presence of the ethylene oxidation products.

Carbonated hydroxyapatites (CAp) are very close to natural bone apatite in chemical composition and are regarded as a prospective bone mineral substitute for bone surgery and orthopedics. However, until now, the studies and applications of CAp were limited because of the amorphous nature of the synthetic CAp. In the present work, microsized highly crystalline carbonated apatites with uniform hexagonal (hCAp) or platelike (pCAp) morphology have been studied for the first time in vitro and in vivo, comparing against commercial hydroxyapatite (HAp) and β-tricalcuim phosphate (βTCP).
