We present the results of comparative enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay of matrix metalloproteinases MMP-2, MMP-8, MMP-9; IL-1β and IL-6; tissue inhibitors of MMP (TIMP-1, TIMP-2), and TNF-α. The object of study was oral fluid of practically healthy subjects with intact periodontium and patients with chronic generalized periodontitis with various structural materials of dental restorations. It was found that MMP-9 in oral fluid could be considered as a marker of chronic generalized periodontitis irrespective of the presence or absence of metal dental restorations.

The stress response and NO production in reprogrammed proinflammatory or antiinflammatory alveolar macrophages were studied after lipopolysaccharide treatment. Experiments with macrophages not containing HSP70 showed that lipopolysaccharide in a dose of 500 ng/ml induced stress response in cells with the proinflammatory phenotype (as distinct from an antiinflammatory phenotype). The stress response was not observed in HSP70-containing lipopolysaccharide-stimulated proinflammatory macrophages, but occurred in cells with antiinflammatory phenotype.

Purpose Of Review: Urethrovaginal fistulae are a rare condition. It is a conceptual mistake to consider urethrovaginal fistulae to be synonymous with vesicovaginal fistulae. Urethrovaginal fistulae are a different entity requiring special attention and treatment.

The fine branches of the trigeminal ganglion were studied by macromicropreparation and total clearing in glycerol of specimens collected during autopsies of 78 people aged 23-69 years impregnated with silver nitrate by the Christensen method or stained with the Schiff reagent as described by Shubich and Khodos; serial histotopograms prepared in the sagittal plane from specimens from 15 autopsies of humans of the same age range and also impregnated by the Christensen method were also studied. Four histotopograms were used for reconstruction of the fine nerves. The results showed that numerous branches of diameter 50-150 microm ran directly from the trigeminal nerve, more from the outer and less from the deeper surface, innervating the walls of the trigeminal cavity.

We have demonstrated that transcription factors Egr1 and NFAT2 cooperate in regulation of the early stages of T-lymphocyte development, whereas the related factors Egr2 and Egr3 do not cooperate with NFAT2. Egr1 and NFAT2 are shown to cooperatively control gene expression of the regulatory factor Id3 and recombinase Rag2, whose functions are critical for T-lymphocyte differentiation. Thus, the concerted action of the transcription factors Egr1 and NFAT2 can play a crucial role in regulation of the T cell differentiation in vitro due to the cooperative regulation of Id3 and Rag2 gene expression.

Blood content of MDA in rats increased 1 and 2 weeks after mandibular bone fracture at stages of cellular fibrous and chondroid callus and decreased 4 weeks after fracture at the stage of primary bone callus. Treatment with Se (intragastrically and electrophoretically) reduced this increase by activating selenium-containing glutathione peroxidase. In order to clear out the relationship between Se and carbohydrate metabolism in different ages, the distribution of Se between the blood and mandibular bone, diaphysis and metaepiphyseal zone of the femoral bone was studied using the bone/blood relative radioactivity coefficient after intraperitoneal injection of [(75)Se]selenate.

Changes in (14)C incorporation into regenerate after bone fracture and impairment of mandibular innervation, and injection of [3-(14)C]cytrate corresponded to the stages of reparative osteogenesis: after 1 week (14)C incorporation in the cellular-fibrous callus surpassed its release, after 2 weeks the rates of (14)C incorporation and release in the chondroid callus become similar, and after 4 weeks the release of the label predominated in the primary bone callus. Denervation reduced (14)C incorporation into regenerate, which impaired bone remodeling. Citrate in the bones is characterized by high metabolic activity.
