Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) has proven effective in treating pain in many experimental and clinical studies. In addition to the analgesic effect, direct TENS of peripheral nerves had anti-inflammatory and regenerative effects in the treatment of distal polyneuropathy and spinal cord injury. This work demonstrates the experience of using direct TENS in the treatment of a 52-year-old patient with post-COVID-19 Guillain-Barré (GBS) and acute transverse myelitis (ATM) overlap syndrome.

Electronic address:

Objectives: The present study aims to examine the influence of the build angle on the accuracy (trueness and precision) of 3D printed crowns, table-tops and veneers with a hybrid resin-ceramic material.

Methods: One crown, on table-top and one veneer were printed in five different build angles (0°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 90°) (n = 50) with the digital light processing (DLP) system (Varseo XS, Bego) using hybrid resin (Varseo Smile Crown A3, Bego). All printed restorations were scanned using the laboratory scanner (D2000, 3Shape) and matched onto the initial reference design in metrology software (Geomagic Control X, 3D Systems).

Background: Intracranial volume (ICV) is an important indicator of the development of the brain and skull in children. At present, there is a lack of ICV growth standards based on large infant and children samples. Our aim was to assess the normal range of the ICV variation in Russian children using a modern automatic system for constructing the endocranial cavity (Endex) and to provide growth standards of the ICV for clinical practice.

Ilya Matveyevich Kovarsky (1856-1933) - the founder and permanent head of the First Moscow Dentistry School, organizer and honorary member of the Moscow Dentistry Society, editor and publisher of one of the first Russian dental journals «Odontological Revue» - was deprived of his personal pension and suffrage in 1930 as a former owner of a private capitalist enterprise; his name was actually erased from the national dentistry. The portrait of Ilya Matveyevich Kovarsky - a remarkable doctor, teacher and worthy man - is reconstructed by the documents preserved in the Kovarsky family archive (on the basis of which this article was written) and the memories of his eldest daughter (published for the first time).

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the anatomical features of the mesiobuccal (MB) root canals in maxillary molars using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) to reduce endodontic failures.
  • A total of 100 CBCT scans were analyzed, focusing on measurements like root length, canal confluence, and positions of canal orifices.
  • Results indicate that a longer root (over 14.56 mm) significantly increases the likelihood of confluence between MB canals, suggesting the importance of anatomical knowledge for successful root canal treatments.

Polymers (Basel)

January 2024

Istituto di Struttura della Materia, Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (ISM-CNR), Via del Fosso del Cavaliere 100, 00133 Rome, Italy.

This article presents materials that highlight the bioengineering potential of polymeric systems of natural origin based on biodegradable polysaccharides, with applications in creating modern products for localized wound healing. Exploring the unique biological and physicochemical properties of polysaccharides offers a promising avenue for the atraumatic, controlled restoration of damaged tissues in extensive wounds. The study focused on alginate, pectin, and a hydrogel composed of their mixture in a 1:1 ratio.

The efficiency of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (PDT) might be improved by using multiple wavelengths. This study investigates the sensitivity of implant-adherent biofilms of , , and to indocyanine green (ICG)-808 nm diode laser, toluidine blue O (TBO)-635 nm diode laser, and hydrogen peroxide (HP)-980 nm diode laser and their combination when irradiated with dual-wavelength laser irradiation (simultaneously 980-635 nm or 980-808 nm). After an incubation period of 72 h, the infected implants were randomly divided into seven different treatment modalities: Control, HP, HP-PDT, TBO-PDT, HP-TBO-PDT, ICG-PDT, and HP-ICG-PDT.

The increasing demand for orthodontic treatments due to the high prevalence of malocclusion has inspired clinicians and material scientists to investigate innovative, more effective, and precise bonding methods with reduced chairside time. This study aimed at comparing the shear bond strength (SBS) of metal and ceramic brackets bonded to enamel using the indirect bonding technique (IDB). Victory Series metal brackets (Metal-OPC, Metal-APC) and Clarity™ Advanced ceramic brackets (Ceramic-OPC) (3M Unitek, Monrovia, CA, USA) were bonded indirectly to extracted human premolars through the etch-and-rinse technique.
