Introduction: Individual risk assessment of assisted reproductive technologies is essential for personalized treatment strategies. Genetic and genomic indicators of the response to stress by cells could provide individual prognostic indicators for fertilization (IVF) success. Such indicators include the copy number of ribosomal genes (rDNA), which modulates the level of protein synthesis, and the abundance of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), which provides the cell with energy, while the content of telomere repeats (TRs) indicate the biological age.

A combination of depression and alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a typical and most common example of a dual diagnosis at the intersection of general psychiatry and addiction psychiatry. A comorbidity of depression and AUD is more common than it can be brought about by mere coincidence, which might be explained to some extent by the synergetic effect of both diseases, with each of them complicating the course and worsening the prognosis of the other. Treatment protocols for patients with depression and comorbid AUD include antidepressants, specific medications for alcohol dependence, and psychotherapy.

Todd Phillips's film Joker, a 2019 psychological thriller, has stirred up strong reactions to the portrayal of the lead character's mental disorder, which is never specified. I used DSM-5 criteria to study whether Joker/Arthur Fleck showed signs of a real mental disorder. The psychopathology Arthur exhibits is unclear, preventing diagnosis of psychotic disorder or schizophrenia; the unusual combination of symptoms suggests a complex mix of features of certain personality traits, namely psychopathy and narcissism (he meets DSM-5 criteria for narcissistic personality disorder).
