The large inner surface of porous silicon (pSi) not only provides unique opportunities for introducing various foreign materials into the open pores, but is also responsible for a lot of processes during the pSi cathode polarization. PSi surface and contact effects are considered in the article. The space charge layer induced by both the surface states and the double electrical layer in the solution is shown to have a decisive influence on the electrical conductivity of the silicon skeleton in the pSi layer.

One of the well-known X-linked genetic disorders is hemophilia, which could be hemophilia A as a result of a mutation in the (factor VIII) gene or hemophilia B as a result of a mutation in the (factor IX) gene, leading to insufficient levels of the proteins essential for blood coagulation cascade. A study of the enhancement of photodynamic activities of pyropheophorbide-a using PG-Ag-PPa nanoconjugates. The nanoconjugates were formulated from silver nanoparticles and PPa via amide linkage, then characterized, and their photodynamic activities were examined. The nanoconjugates displayed a higher rate of reactive oxygen species generation, commendable cellular uptake by Eca-109 cancer cells, higher photocytotoxicity toward the cancer cells and better bio-safety.

The "vein definition" for locally advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (LA PDAC) assumes portal-to-superior mesenteric vein (PV/SMV) unreconstructability due to tumor involvement or occlusion. Radical pancreatectomies with SMV resection without PV/SMV reconstruction are scarcely discussed in the literature. Ovarian cancer often develops resistance to conventional therapies, hampering their effectiveness. Here, using ex vivo paired ovarian cancer ascites obtained before and after chemotherapy and in vitro therapy-induced secretomes, we show that molecules secreted by ovarian cancer cells upon therapy promote cisplatin resistance and enhance DNA damage repair in recipient cancer cells. Even a short-term incubation of chemonaive ovarian cancer cells with therapy-induced secretomes induces changes resembling those that are observed in chemoresistant patient-derived tumor cells after long-term therapy.
