ORPHEE: A Real-World Study on rIX-FP Prophylaxis Use in Adolescent/Adult Patients With Hemophilia B.

Eur J Haematol

December 2024

CRH, CRC-MHC (Centre de Référence de l'Hémophilie, Centre de Ressource et de Compétence Des Maladies Hémorragiques Constitutionnelles), University Hospital, Rennes, France.

Objectives: To assess the real-world efficacy and safety of recombinant factor IX albumin fusion protein (rIX-FP) in patients with hemophilia B (HB) in France.

Methods: Data on dosing frequency, weekly consumption, and bleeds before-and-after switching to rIX-FP, were collected from December 2021 to February 2024. Annualized (spontaneous) bleeding rates [A(s)BRs] were calculated only in patients on prophylaxis with a follow-up ≥ 6 months.

Background: French policymakers recently chose to regulate high-risk digestive cancer surgery (DCS). A minimum of five cases per year should be performed for each of the following types of curative cancer surgery: esophagus/esogastric junction (ECS), stomach (GCS), liver (LCS, metastasis included), pancreas (PCS), and rectum (RCS). This study aimed to evaluate the hypothetical beneficial effects of the new legal minimal volume thresholds on the rates of 90-day postoperative mortality (90POM) for each high-risk DCS.

Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a well-recognized complication following gastrointestinal cancer surgery, particularly early postoperatively. The incidence and risk factors of VTE within 1-year after esophageal (including esophago-gastric junction) (ECS) and gastric (GCS) cancer surgeries, and especially its impact on 1-year global mortality, are yet under-explored.

Methods: This nationwide observational population-based cohort study used data extracted from all patients undergoing ECS and GCS in France between 1 January 2015 and 31 December 2017.

Background:  rVIII-SingleChain is a recombinant factor VIII (FVIII) with increased binding affinity to von Willebrand factor compared with other FVIII products. rVIII-SingleChain is indicated for the treatment and prevention of bleeding episodes in patients with hemophilia A.

Objectives:  To collect real-world evidence data from patients treated with rVIII-SingleChain to confirm the efficacy and safety established in the clinical trial program and carry out a population pharmacokinetic (PK) analysis.

The midwifery profession varies greatly from one country to another. There are, however, a number of common features such as exposure to biological risks through contact with pregnant women and women in labor, exposure to postural stresses during examinations and medical acts, but also, increasingly, exposure to organizational constraints (work schedules, shift work, etc.).

Eur J Cancer

April 2019

Direction de la Recherche Clinique et de l'Innovation, Centre Oscar Lambret, Lille, France; CESP, INSERM, Paris-Sud, Paris-Saclay University, 94805 Villejuif, France.

Purpose: The role of chemotherapy has not been established in the treatment of metastatic squamous cell oesophageal cancer (mESCC).

Patients And Methods: E-DIS is a discontinuation trial, aimed at estimating efficacy, quality of life and safety of chemotherapy continuation (CT-CONT) in patients with mESCC who are free from progression after a selection phase of chemotherapy. The primary end-point was overall survival.

Introduction: Trastuzumab in combination with platinum-based chemotherapy is the standard first-line regimen in HER2-positive advanced gastric cancer. However, there are very few data concerning efficacy of continuing trastuzumab beyond first-line progression.

Methods: This retrospective multicenter study included all consecutive patients with HER2-positive advanced gastric or gastro-esophageal junction (GEJ) adenocarcinoma who received a second-line of chemotherapy with or without trastuzumab after progression on platinum-based chemotherapy plus trastuzumab.

Childhood immune thrombocytopenia: A nationwide cohort study on condition management and outcomes.

Pediatr Blood Cancer

July 2017

French Reference Center for Rare Diseases and Autoimmune Cytopenias of Childhood (CEREVANCE), Pellegrin Hospital, Bordeaux, France.

Article Synopsis
  • A nationwide study in France investigated factors influencing treatment initiation versus watchful waiting in children with primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) and predicted chronic cases after 12 months.
  • The study included 257 children aged 6 months to 18 years, revealing that over 80% began treatment, primarily due to low platelet counts and bleeding symptoms.
  • Key predictors of chronicity included being female, older age (10 years or older), and higher platelet counts, while younger children demonstrated a better prognosis overall.

Objective: To determine the type and frequency of musculoskeletal symptoms at onset and during followup of cryopyrin-associated periodic syndromes (CAPS).

Methods: We retrospectively recorded the articular and muscular symptoms of patients with CAPS followed up in French hospitals. Data were presented as frequencies or the median (range), and patient groups were compared using chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, and Mann-Whitney test.

Background: Palmoplantar pustular psoriasis (PPPP) is a variant of psoriasis whose the association with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) has been recently described. There is limited evidence regarding how to best reduce palmoplantar pustular psoriasis severity and to maintain remission once achieved.

Objective: The aim of this study was to elaborate evidence-based recommendations for PPPP treatment supported by a systematic literature review.

The association between alcohol consumption and psoriasis has been frequently discussed since the 1980s, but no systematic review has been elaborated on the subject so far. The aim of this systematic literature review was to assess whether alcohol consumption is more prevalent in psoriasis patients than in the general population and whether alcohol consumption is a risk factor of psoriasis. A systematic literature search was carried out in the Medline, Embase and Cochrane databases using the keywords 'psoriasis' AND 'alcohol drinking' OR 'alcohol-related disorders'.

The incidence of nosocomial yeast infections has increased markedly in recent decades, especially among the elderly. The present study was therefore initiated not only to determine the predictive value of oral colonization by yeasts for the onset of a nosocomial Candida infection in elderly hospitalized patients (> 65 years), but also to clarify the factors that promote infection and to establish a relationship between the intensity of oral carriage and the onset of yeast infection. During this prospective cohort study, 256 patients (156 women and 100 men with a mean age of 83 +/- 8 years) were surveyed for yeast colonization or infection.
