The authors in this article will present storytelling through the lens of the humanbecoming family model. From this perspective, storytelling can be viewed as the following: (a) family storytelling as a mode of fostering personal and family becoming, (b) family storytelling as a confirming of family beliefs and values, and (c) family storytelling as a way of addressing issues of grief and loss. Selected literature is presented to highlight the essences, paradoxes, and processes of the humanbecoming family model.

Agent-based, spatially-explicit models that incorporate movement rules are used across ecological disciplines for a variety of applications. However, appropriate movement rules may be difficult to implement due to the complexity of an individual's response to both proximate and ultimate cues, as well as the difficulty in directly assessing how organisms choose to move across their environment. Objective: Recognition of sexual minorities in social science research is growing and this study contributes to knowledge on this population by comparing the qualities of same-sex and different-sex relationships among young adults.

Background: The findings of studies on this topic cannot be generalized to young adults because they are limited to coresidential unions and based on convenience samples. This study extends prior research by examining multiple relationship qualities among a nationally-representative sample of males and females in "dating" and cohabiting relationships.

Telling a good story: The effects of memory retrieval and context processing on eyewitness suggestibility.

Witnesses are likely to describe a crime many times before testifying or encountering misinformation about that crime. Research examining the effect of retrieval on later suggestibility has yielded mixed results. LaPaglia and Chan manipulated whether misinformation was presented in a narrative or misleading questions, and they found that retrieval increased suggestibility when misinformation was presented in a narrative, but reduced suggestibility when the same misinformation was presented in questions.

The Peer Relationships of Those Who Have Experienced Adoption or Foster Care: A Meta-Analysis.

This meta-analytic review examines the presence and quality of close peer relationships for adoptees and individuals with foster care experience. Results indicate that adoptees show difficulty forming close peer relationships compared with biologically reared individuals, but they do not differ in the quality of these relationships. In contrast, those with foster care experience report lower quality peer relationships than biologically reared individuals.

Testing a key assumption in animal communication: between-individual variation in female visual systems alters perception of male signals.

Variation in male signal production has been extensively studied because of its relevance to animal communication and sexual selection. Although we now know much about the mechanisms that can lead to variation between males in the properties of their signals, there is still a general assumption that there is little variation in terms of how females process these male signals. Variation between females in signal processing may lead to variation between females in how they rank individual males, meaning that one single signal may not be universally attractive to all females.

Knowledge of the chemical composition of this nitrogen pool is crucial for understanding its biogeochemical function and reactivity in the environment. Previous work has suggested that high-molecular-weight (high-MW) DON exists only in two closely related forms, the secondary amides of peptides and of N-acetylated hexose sugars.

Evaluations and Future Plans After Casual Sexual Experiences: Differences Across Partner Type.

Casual sexual relationships and experiences (CSREs) are common among emerging adults, and their diversity may contribute to variability in their associations with mental health and future romantic relationship development. Impaired Coronary Endothelial Vasorelaxation in a Preclinical Model of Peripheral Arterial Insufficiency.

The present study was designed to determine whether adult swine with peripheral artery insufficiency (PAI) would exhibit vascular dysfunction in vessels distinct from the affected distal limbs, the coronary conduit arteries. Moreover, we sought to evaluate the effect of exercise training on coronary vasomotor function in PAI. Eighteen female healthy young Yucatan miniature swine were randomly assigned to either occluded exercise trained (Occl-Ex, n=7), or occluded-sedentary (Occl-Sed, n=5), or non-occluded, non-exercised control (Non-Occl-Con, n=6) groups.

A flexible nanoarray approach for the assembly and probing of molecular complexes.

Immobilization is a key step involved in probing molecular interactions using single-molecule force spectroscopy methods, including atomic force microscopy (AFM). To our knowledge, we describe a novel approach termed flexible nanoarray (FNA) in which the interaction between the two internally immobilized amyloid β peptides is measured by pulling of the tether. The FNA tether was synthesized with nonnucleotide phosphoramidite monomers using the DNA synthesis chemistry.

Testing increases suggestibility for narrative-based misinformation but reduces suggestibility for question-based misinformation.

A number of recent studies have found that recalling details of an event following its occurrence can increase people's suggestibility to later presented misinformation. However, several other studies have reported the opposite result, whereby earlier retrieval can reduce subsequent eyewitness suggestibility. In the present study, we investigated whether differences in the way misinformation is presented can modulate the effects of testing on suggestibility.

Ethical and practical similarities between pedagogical and clinical research.

Clinical research and educational research face similar practical and ethical constraints that impact the rigor of both kinds of studies. Practical constraints facing undergraduate science education research include small sample sizes (largely a result of disproportionate incentives to conduct educational research at small colleges versus large universities), and the impossibility of randomizing individual students to separate arms of a study. Primed lexical decision task in fearful and nonfearful individuals.

Participants were 32 spider-fearful, 33 blood-injury-injection-fearful, and 28 nonfearful individuals (N = 93) who took part in a primed lexical decision task (LDT) and who were presented with blood-, spider-, neutral-, positive-, and pseudo-word stimuli. Participants decided whether 1 or both words in a word pair were real English words or nonwords; if both were real words, participants responded one way, and if 1 or more of the stimuli were nonwords, participants responded a different way. Participants responded to nonword-nonword stimuli faster than to other stimuli pairs.

Patterns of early postnatal growth were analyzed among low birthweight infants enrolled in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). Infants were divided into four groups according to their neonatal status: (1) term, normal birthweight (NBW); (2) term, low birthweight (LBW); (3) moderately preterm LBW; and (4) very preterm LBW. Comparison of mean weight and length z-scores indicated that term NBW and very preterm LBW infants were at or near the national reference averages at 8, 12, and 18 months.
