Purpose: The concept of non-mass abnormalities of the breast has been employed in Japan for approximately 20 years. Although B-mode findings are classified as non-mass abnormalities, the usefulness of adding color Doppler ultrasonography (US) and strain elastography to B-mode US is unclear. Therefore, we conducted a multicenter study (JABTS BC-07) to establish the diagnostic criteria for breast US, including color Doppler and elastography, for non-mass abnormalities of the breast and verify their diagnostic usefulness.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated nafamostat's antiviral effects and safety in early COVID-19 patients through a randomized controlled trial with three treatment groups.
  • Results showed a significant reduction in SARS-CoV-2 viral load for patients receiving nafamostat, especially with higher dosages, while no serious adverse events were reported.
  • Phlebitis was noted in about 50% of patients treated with nafamostat, indicating a notable side effect despite the absence of severe complications.

Background: Patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) face higher risks of life-threatening events including cardiovascular disease. Various risk factors are identified as agents influencing the life prognosis of ESKD patients. Herein, we evaluated the risk factors related to the outcomes of Japanese patients with dialysis induction.

The usefulness of color Doppler ultrasound (CD) in distinguishing between benign and malignant breast lesions remains controversial. Our prior study, the Japan Association of Breast and Thyroid Sonology (JABTS) BC-04 study (malignant: 839, benign: 569), found CD was useful in breast cancer diagnosis, and we developed CD diagnostic criteria. The first aim of the current study (the CD-CONFIRM study) was to evaluate the usefulness of the CD diagnostic criteria.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is the most common and most deadly form of interstitial lung disease. Osteopontin (OPN), a matricellular protein with proinflammatory and profibrotic properties, plays a major role in several fibrotic diseases, including IPF; OPN is highly upregulated in patients' lung samples. In this study, we knocked down OPN in a bleomycin (BLM)-induced pulmonary fibrosis (PF) mouse model using small interfering RNA (siRNA) to determine whether the use of OPN siRNA is an effective therapeutic strategy for IPF.

Treatment of pelvic arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) is frequently challenging because of the complex structures and anatomical diversity among cases. We present a case series of six patients with pelvic AVMs. All patients had a similar anatomical structure consisting of multiple feeders from the unilateral internal iliac artery, collecting into a dilated venous sac in the unilateral paravesical space and draining into a single outflow, eventually joining the pre-prostatic vein or internal iliac vein.

The use of color Doppler ultrasound (CD) for distinguishing between benign and malignant breast lesions remains controversial. This study (JABTS BC-04 study) was aimed at confirming the usefulness of our CD diagnostic criteria. We evaluated ultrasound images of 1408 solid breast masses from 16 institutions in Japan (malignant: 839, benign: 569).

Cefotaxime-non-susceptible Haemophilus influenzae has rarely been isolated from clinical specimens. Although several reports have shown that amino acid (AA) alteration in penicillin-binding protein 3 (PBP3), encoded by the ftsI gene, reduces activity of cefotaxime, precise mechanisms conferring the non-susceptibility have been unclear. We analyzed the ftsI gene of two clinically isolated cefotaxime-non-susceptible H.

Background And Objective: Imarikiren hydrochloride (TAK-272; SCO-272) is a novel direct renin inhibitor. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of renal impairment (RI) or hepatic impairment (HI) on the pharmacokinetics and safety of imarikiren.

Methods: This phase I, open-label, parallel-group comparative study evaluated the pharmacokinetics and safety of a single 40 mg oral dose of imarikiren in RI [mild, moderate, severe, or end-stage renal disease (ESRD), and on hemodialysis] or HI (mild or moderate) subjects compared with subjects with normal renal or hepatic function.
