Background: Despite the importance of effective educational strategies to promote the transformation and articulation of clinical data while teaching and learning clinical reasoning, unanswered questions remain. Understanding how these cognitive operations can be observed and assessed is crucial, particularly considering the rapid growth of artificial intelligence and its integration into health education. A scoping review was conducted to map the literature regarding educational strategies to support transformation and articulation of clinical data, the learning tasks expected of students when exposed to these strategies and methods used to assess individuals' proficiency METHODS: Based on the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology, the authors searched 5 databases (CINAHL, MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO and Web of Science), ProQuest Dissertations & Theses electronic database and Google Scholar.

Background: Delirium, an acute brain dysfunction, is proposed to be highly prevalent in clinical care and shown to significantly increase the risk of mortality and dementia.
Objectives: To report on the global prevalence of clinically documented delirium and delirium-related clinical practices in wards caring for paediatric and adult patients in healthcare facilities.
Design: A prospective, cross-sectional, 39-question survey completed on World Delirium Awareness Day, 15 March 2023.

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is more prevalent in men than in women, with endothelial dysfunction, prodromal to CAD, developing a decade earlier in middle-aged men. We investigated the molecular basis of this dimorphism ex vivo in arterial segments discarded during surgery of CAD patients. The results reveal a lower endothelial relaxant sensitivity in men, and a senescence-associated inflammaging transcriptomic signature in endothelial cells.

The inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) known as Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) are chronic inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract believed to arise because of an imbalance between the epithelial, immune and microbial systems. It has been shown that biological differences (genetic, epigenetic, microbial, environmental, etc.) exist between patients with IBD, with multiple risk factors been associated with disease susceptibility and IBD-related phenotypes (e.

Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) refers to a clinical condition in which the signs of heart failure, such as pulmonary congestion, peripheral edema, and increased natriuretic peptide levels, are present despite normal ejection fractions and the absence of other causes (eg, pericardial disease). The ejection fraction cutoff for the definition of HFpEF has varied in the past, but recent society guidelines have settled on a consensus of 50%. HFpEF is particularly common in the elderly population.

Introduction: Cardiovascular disease risk factors (CVRFs) contribute to the development of cognitive impairment and dementia.
Methods: This study examined the associations between circulating CVRF biomarkers and cognition in 386 cognitively healthy older adults (mean age = 78 ± 4 years, 53% females) selected from the Quebec Longitudinal Study on Nutrition and Successful Aging (NuAge). Memory, executive function, and processing speed were assessed at baseline and 2-year follow-up.

Background: Identification of rare variants involved in complex, polygenic diseases like Crohn's disease (CD) has accelerated with the introduction of whole exome/genome sequencing association studies. Rare variants can be used in both diagnostic and therapeutic assessments; however, since they are likely to be restricted to specific ancestry groups, their contributions to risk assessment need to be evaluated outside the discovery population. Prior studies implied that the three known rare variants in NOD2 are absent in West African and Asian populations and only contribute in African Americans via admixture.

Cardiomyopathy is a major complication of thalassemia, yet the precise underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. We examined whether altered lipid metabolism is an early driving factor in the development of cardiomyopathy using the Th3/+ mouse model of thalassemia. At age 20 weeks, male and female Th3/+ mice manifested anemia and iron overload; however, only males displayed metabolic defects and altered cardiac function.

Background: Voice-assisted artificial intelligence-based systems may streamline clinical care among patients with heart failure (HF) and caregivers; however, randomized clinical trials are needed. We evaluated the potential for Amazon Alexa (Alexa), a voice-assisted artificial intelligence-based system, to conduct screening for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in a HF clinic.
Methods And Results: We enrolled 52 participants (patients and caregivers) from a HF clinic who were randomly assigned with a subsequent cross-over to receive a SARS-CoV-2 screening questionnaire via Alexa or health care personnel.

Clinical reasoning is essential for nurses and nursing students to recognize and intervene when hospitalized patients present acute heart failure. Serious games are digital educational interventions that could foster the development of clinical reasoning through an engaging and intrinsically motivating learning experience. However, elements from a playful approach (eg, rewards, narrative elements) are often absent or poorly integrated in existing serious games, which may limit their contribution to learning.

Aim: To investigate the effect of the new definition of pulmonary hypertension (PH) and new pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) thresholds on the prevalence, clinical characteristics, and events following cardiac transplantation (CTx) over 30 years.
Methods: Patients who underwent CTx between 1983 and 2014 for whom invasive hemodynamic data was available were analyzed ( = 342). Patients transplanted between 1983 and 1998 were classified as early era and those transplanted between 1999 and 2014 were classified as recent era.

COVID-19 symptoms can cause substantial disability, yet no therapy can currently reduce their frequency or duration. We conducted a double-blind placebo-controlled trial of hesperidin 1000 mg once daily for 14 days in 216 symptomatic nonvaccinated COVID-19 subjects. Thirteen symptoms were recorded after 3, 7, 10, and 14 days.

Background: Genome wide association studies (GWAS) have identified and validated more than 200 genomic loci associated with the inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), although for most the causal gene remains unknown. Given the importance of myeloid cells in IBD pathogenesis, the current study aimed to uncover the role of genes within IBD genetic loci that are endogenously expressed in this cell lineage.
Methods: The open reading frames (ORF) of 42 genes from IBD-associated loci were expressed via lentiviral transfer in the THP-1 model of human monocytes and the impact of each of these on the cell's transcriptome was analyzed using a RNA sequencing-based approach.

Aim: To explore the knowledge content and structure of nursing students' decision-making in a high-stake clinical situation of postpartum hemorrhage using the Recognition-Primed Decision Model.
Background: According to research on clinical judgment, a nurse's expectations for a patient situation are central to the clinical decision-making process. However, little research has addressed the expectation concept and its relationship with the nurse's knowledge.

Rationale: Nurses are responsible for engaging in continuing professional development throughout their careers. This implies that they use tools such as competency frameworks to assess their level of development, identify their learning needs, and plan actions to achieve their learning goals. Although multiple competency frameworks and guidelines for their development have been proposed, the literature on their implementation in clinical settings is sparser.

Brief counseling, when provided by adequately trained nurses, can motivate and support patient health behavior change. However, numerous barriers can impede nurses' capability and motivation to provide brief counseling. Theory-based interventions, as well as information and communication technologies, can support evidence-based practice by addressing these barriers.

Background: Hemorrhage is a frequent complication that nurses and midwives must recognize and manage to avoid life-threatening consequences for patients. There is currently no synthesis of evidence on educational interventions in nursing and midwifery regarding hemorrhage, thus limiting the definition of best practices.

Fatty acid (FA) signaling contributes to β-cell mass expansion in response to nutrient excess, but the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. In the presence of elevated glucose, FA metabolism is shifted toward synthesis of complex lipids, including sphingolipids. Here, we tested the hypothesis that sphingolipids are involved in the β-cell proliferative response to FA.
