Do SMS/e-mail reminders increase influenza vaccination of rheumatoid arthritis patients under anti-TNF: a nested randomized controlled trial in the ART e-cohort.

Rheumatology (Oxford)

November 2024

Department of Rheumatology and National Reference Center for Rare Systemic Autoimmune Diseases, AP-HP, Hôpital Bicêtre, Université Paris-Saclay, Le Kremlin Bicêtre, France.

Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of short message service (SMS) and/or email reminders in improving influenza vaccination coverage rates among rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients treated with anti-TNF therapies, and to identify factors associated with vaccination.

Methods: A nested randomized controlled trial in the ART e-cohort, an ongoing French nationwide multicentre prospective cohort of RA patients treated with anti-TNF therapy. Patients were 1:1 randomized, with stratification on age.

Background: A French intersociety consensus on behalf the Société Française de Médecine Vasculaire and the Société de Chirurgie Vasculaire et Endovasculaire was proposed in 2021 for the management of patients with lower extremity peripheral artery disease (LEAD). Recent studies have been published and an update of this consensus about the management of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLc) and hypertriglyceridemia was required.

Methods: A steering committee of 12 vascular physicians and surgeons defined questions of interest about LDLc and hypertriglyceridemia management.

Aims: Overweight and obesity in children with congenital heart disease (CHD) represent an alarming cardiovascular risk. Promotion of physical activity and cardiac rehabilitation in this population requires assessing the level of aerobic fitness (VO2max) by a cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET). Nevertheless, the interpretation of CPET in overweight/obese children with CHD remains challenging as VO2max is affected by both the cardiac condition and the body mass index (BMI).

Context of a neonatal death affects parental perception of end-of-life care, anxiety and depression in the first year of bereavement.

BMC Palliat Care

May 2023

Department of Neonatal Medicine and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, Arnaud de Villeneuve Hospital, Montpellier University Hospital Centre, University of Montpellier, 371 Avenue du Doyen Gaston Giraud, 34295 Cedex 5, Montpellier, France.

Article Synopsis
  • A study analyzed neonatal deaths in a hospital to see how decisions about life-sustaining treatment (withholding or withdrawing) affected parental anxiety and depression afterward.
  • Out of 179 neonatal deaths, 64% occurred after a decision to withhold or withdraw life support, with parents reporting higher satisfaction in that context compared to those who received maximum care.
  • At 5 months post-death, a significant percentage of parents showed signs of anxiety and depression, but those who made the decision to withhold or withdraw treatment had lower rates of depression.

Background: Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is an aggressive malignancy, and 20% of children present with metastases at diagnosis. Patients presenting with disseminated disease very occasionally have no clear evidence of a primary tumor mass. As these patients have rarely been investigated, we report on a series of patients with RMS and unknown primary tumor site registered in the Metastatic (MTS) RMS 2008 protocol (October 2008 to December 2016) coordinated by the European pediatric Soft tissue sarcoma Study Group.

Birth during on-call period: Impact of care organization on mortality and morbidity of very premature neonates.

Front Pediatr

August 2022

Department of Neonatal Medicine, Arnaud de Villeneuve Hospital, Montpellier University Hospital Centre, University of Montpellier, Montpellier, France.

Objectives: The evidence that risks of morbidity and mortality are higher when very premature newborns are born during the on-call period is inconsistent. This study aimed to assess the impact of this situation among other determinants of outcomes, particularly newborn characteristics and care organization.

Methods: Observational study including all infants born < 30 weeks' gestation in a French tertiary perinatal center between 2007 and 2020.

Less invasive surfactant administration (LISA) has become increasingly popular in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), but there are currently no guidelines for the premedication prior to this procedure. The aim of this observational study was to compare the efficacy and tolerance of intravenous administrations of ketamine and propofol before LISA in neonates born before 30 weeks of gestational age (GA). The primary outcome was requirement of intubation within 2 h of the procedure.

Evaluating next-generation sequencing in neuromuscular diseases with neonatal respiratory distress.

Eur J Paediatr Neurol

March 2021

AOC (Atlantique-Occitanie-Caraïbe) Reference Centre for Neuromuscular Disorders, Neuropaediatric Department, Toulouse University Hospital, Toulouse, France. Electronic address:

With the exception of infantile spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and congenital myotonic dystrophy 1 (DM1), congenital myopathies and muscular dystrophies with neonatal respiratory distress pose diagnostic challenges. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) provides hope for the diagnosis of these rare diseases. We evaluated the efficiency of next-generation sequencing (NGS) in ventilated newborns with peripheral hypotonia.

Several international guidelines concerning lower extremity arterial disease (LEAD) have been published recently, in particular, by the American Heart Association the European Society of Cardiology/European Society for Vascular Surgery, the European Society for Vascular Medicine and the Society for Vascular Surgery. These guidelines differ in some respects and certain issues are not addressed. The objective of this consensus driven by the French Societies of vascular Medicine and surgery was to analyze the disparities between the different guidelines, as well as certain issues not covered, and develop proposals with regard to these points.

Background: Updated WHO guidelines recommend a dolutegravir-based regimen as the preferred first-line treatment for HIV infection and low-dose efavirenz (400 mg) as an alternative. We aimed to report the non-inferior efficacy of dolutegravir compared with efavirenz 400 mg at week 96.

Methods: We did a multicentre, randomised, open label, phase 3 trial in in three hospitals in Yaoundé, Cameroon, in HIV-1 infected antiretroviral-naive adults with an HIV RNA viral load of greater than 1000 copies per mL to compare dolutegravir 50 mg with efavirenz 400 mg (reference treatment), both combined with lamivudine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate.

Article Synopsis
  • Congenital nemaline myopathies are rare muscle disorders marked by weakness and rod-like inclusions in muscle fibers, often leading to serious complications.
  • The study utilized next-generation sequencing to identify pathogenic variants in the troponin T gene in three patients, all of whom exhibited similar severe symptoms like muscle hypotonia and progressive respiratory failure.
  • Genetic analysis revealed various mutations resulting in the complete absence of the troponin T protein, supporting the idea that these recessive mutations lead to a consistent clinical phenotype among affected individuals.
