Access to psychiatrists by French-speaking patients in Ontario hospitals: 2005 to 2013.

There has been a limited amount of research suggesting that cultural and linguistic variables may affect access to health services, but no study has examined the access of French-speaking Canadians to psychiatrists. The present study used data from the Ontario Mental Health Reporting System to examine patterns of daily contact with psychiatrists in the first 3 days of admission to mental health facilities in Ontario. The results showed that after controlling for a broad range of covariates, French-speaking Ontarians were about one-third as likely to have daily contact with psychiatrists in that time period compared to English-speaking patients.

Diabetic Cranio-Cervico-Radiculoplexus Neuropathy.

We describe a case of a 53-year-old man with type 2 diabetes mellitus in whom cervical-radiculoplexus neuropathy developed, with concomitant cranial and phrenic nerve involvement, occurring as a stepwise, monophasic course. The patient had a presumed remote history of idiopathic cervical-radiculoplexus neuropathy.

Impaired VLDL assembly: a novel mechanism contributing to hepatic lipid accumulation following ovariectomy and high-fat/high-cholesterol diets?

The aim of the present study was to identify molecular mechanisms involved in liver fat and cholesterol accumulation in ovariectomised (Ovx) rats fed with high-cholesterol diets. VLDL assembly and bile acid metabolism were specifically targeted. After being either Ovx or sham-operated, the rats were fed a standard diet or a high-fat diet containing 0, 0·25 or 0·5 % cholesterol for 6 weeks.

Enhancing patient-engaged teamwork in healthcare: an observational case study.

The purpose of this study was to describe how teamwork that effectively engaged patients and families, manifested itself in an acute rural care setting in order to inform the development of teamwork skills. Creation of 3-dimensional prostate cancer maps: methodology and clinical and research implications.

Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) have been developed to summarize evidence about the management of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and facilitate the uptake of evidence-based knowledge by consumers, health professionals, health administrators and policy makers. The objectives of this review was to assess the quality of CPGS on non-pharmacological management of RA with a standardized and validated instrument--the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation (AGREE II) tool and summarize the key recommendations from these CPGs. Scientific literature databases from 2001 to 2013 were systematically searched and a total of 13 CPGs for RA was identified.

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of ovariectomy in rats on hepatic gene expression of key molecules involved in cholesterol metabolism and to verify if exercise training may play a role in preventing hypercholesterolemia in Ovx rats. Sprague-Dawley rats were ovariectomized (Ovx) or sham-operated (Sham) and were either trained (Tr) on treadmill or kept sedentary (Sed) for 8 weeks. Rats were divided into 5 groups: Sham-Sed, Sham-Tr, Ovx-Sed, Ovx-Tr and Ovx with 17β-estradiol supplementation (Ovx-E2).
