This article presents a comprehensive overview of upcycling commercial nut byproducts (such as Brazil nut, cashew, hazelnut, macadamia, peanut (also known as a legume), pecan, pine nut, pistachio, and walnut) for food, nutraceutical, and pharmaceutical applications. Upcycling nut byproducts, namely husk/hull, hard shell, brown skin, defatted flour/meal/cake, pine cone, cashew nut shell liquid, cashew apple, walnut septum, and dreg/okara, has great potential, not only to reduce/minimise waste, but also to fit within the circular economy concept. Each byproduct has its own unique functional properties, which can bring significant value.

Scaffold-based drug design has become increasingly prominent in the pharmaceutical field due to the systematic and effective approach through which it facilitates the development of novel drugs. The identification of key scaffolds provides medicinal chemists with a fundamental framework for subsequent research. With mounting evidence suggesting that increased aromaticity could impede the chances of developmental success for oral drug candidates, there is an imperative need for a more thorough exploration of alternative ring systems to mitigate attrition risks.

Alzheimer's disease is a significant global health issue, and studies suggest that neuroinflammation plays a vital role in the advancement of this disease. In this study, anakinra has been shown to display a time- and concentration-dependent antineuroinflammatory effect. In the studies, it diminished the gene expressions of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and nitric oxide (NO) synthase 2 stimulated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS).

Water availability needs to be accurately assessed to understand and effectively manage hydrologic environments. However, the estimation of evapotranspiration (ET) is prone to errors due to the complex interactions that occur between the atmosphere, the Earth's surface, and vegetation cover. This paper proposes a novel approach for analyzing the sources of inaccuracy in estimating the annual ET using the Budyko framework (BF), particularly temporal variability in precipitation (P), potential evapotranspiration (E), runoff (R), and the change in soil storage (ΔS).

Introduction: Growing evidence suggests that climate change-related extreme weather events adversely impact maternal and child health (MCH) outcomes, which requires effective, sustainable and culturally appropriate interventions at individual, community and policy levels to minimise these impacts. This scoping review proposes to map the evidence available on the type, characteristics and outcomes of multilevel interventions implemented as adaptational strategies to protect MCH from the possible adverse effects of climate change.
Methods: The following databases will be searched: Embase, MEDLINE, Emcare, EPPI-Centre database of health promotion research (BiblioMap) EPPI-Centre Database for promoting Health Effectiveness Reviews (DoPHER), Global Health, CINAHL, Joanna Briggs Institute EBP Database, Maternity and Infant Care Database, Education Resource Information Center, PsycINFO, Scopus, Web of Science and Global Index Medicus, which indexes Latin America and the Caribbean, Index Medicus for the South-East Asia Region, African Index Medicus, Western Pacific Region Index Medicus.

Selectively inhibiting butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) is hypothesized to help in the management of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Several studies have determined a correlation between the increased activity of BChE and the onset of AD. An advantage of BChE over acetylcholinesterase inhibition is that absence of BChE activity does not lead to obvious physiological disturbance.

With the continuous evolution of bacteria, the global antimicrobial resistance health threat is causing millions of deaths yearly. While depending on antibiotics as a primary treatment has its merits, there are no effective alternatives thus far in the pharmaceutical market against some drug-resistant bacteria. In recent years, vaccinology has become a key topic in scientific research.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely prescribed to treat inflammatory-related diseases, pain and fever. However, the prolong use of traditional NSAIDs leads to undesirable side effects such as gastric, ulceration, and renal toxicity due to lack of selectivity toward respective targets for COX-2, 5-LOX, and PDE4B. Thus, targeting multiple sites can reduce these adverse effects of the drugs and increase its potency.

A new chemosensor 1 was synthesized by reacting rhodamine B hydrazide and 2,3,4-trihydroxybenzaldehyde, which was then characterized by spectroscopic techniques and single crystal X-ray crystallography. Sensor 1 has the ability to sense Co/Cu ions by "naked-eye" with an apparent colour change from colourless to pink in different solvent system, MeCN and DMF respectively. Furthermore, it can selectively detect Co/Cu among wide range of different metal ions, and it exhibits low detection limit of 4.

Extant studies address water, food, and health security issues considerably separately and within narrow disciplinary confines. This study investigates the links among these three issues from an ecological viewpoint with a multidisciplinary approach in a modified Millennium Ecosystem Assessment framework developed by the United Nations. The modified framework includes water, food, and health security considerations as the three constituents of human well-being from an ecological (more specifically, ecosystem services) viewpoint.

Photocatalytic degradation is a promising method to remove organic pollutants from water. Photocatalysts based on two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) such as MoS nanomaterials have gained tremendous popularity. This is due to their narrow band gap and high visible light absorption.

Sirtuins are class III histone deacetylase (HDAC) enzymes that target both histone and non-histone substrates. They are linked to different brain functions and the regulation of different isoforms of these enzymes is touted to be an emerging therapy for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases (NDs), including Parkinson's disease (PD), Alzheimer's disease (AD), and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The level of sirtuins affects brain health as many sirtuin-regulated pathways are responsible for the progression of NDs.

Butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) efficiently hydrolyzes acetylcholine (ACh) at high concentrations when acetylcholinesterase (AChE) is substrate-inhibited. Recent studies have shown that BChE also has a function that is independent of ACh, but it has not been fully explored. Low BChE expression is accompanied with higher stress-induced aggression and ghrelin levels in stress models, and BChE knockout mice exhibit cognitive and memory impairments.
