Breast cancer, characterized by genetic diversity and molecular subtypes, presents significant treatment challenges, especially in human epidermal growth factor receptor type 2 (HER2)-positive cases, which are associated with poor prognosis. Metformin, widely known for its antidiabetic effects, has emerged as a promising candidate for cancer therapy. This study investigates the effect of metformin on miR-125a promoter methylation and its subsequent impact on the HER2 signaling pathway in HER2-positive breast cancer cells (SK-BR3).

Background: Studies have shown that changes in the frequency of oral microorganisms may play a key role in the development of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, no research has been conducted on the oral fungal composition in AD-patients. The present study aimed to investigate the changes in the frequency of oral fungal composition, the antifungal susceptibility, and the enzymatic profiles of oral fungal composition in patients suffering from AD compared to non-AD individuals.

Tissue deterioration and post-injury infections are the primary cause of skin diseases. Tissue engineering has developed various synthetic and natural polymers to generate bioactive scaffolds that can closely replicate the natural extracellular matrix (ECM). Decellularized tissues have emerged as a potential solution for reconstructing cutaneous lesions due to their ability to preserve the intricate protein structure and provide essential functional domains for cellular differentiation.

The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted the exploration of effective treatment options, with dexamethasone emerging as a key corticosteroid for severe cases. This review evaluates the efficacy and safety of dexamethasone, highlighting its ability to reduce mortality rates, alleviate acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and mitigate hyperinflammation. While dexamethasone shows therapeutic promise, potential adverse effects-including cardiovascular issues, neuropsychiatric complications, lung infections, and liver damage-necessitate careful monitoring and individualized treatment strategies.

Introduction: Astrocytes, specialized glial cells, are essential for maintaining the central nervous system homeostasis. Inflammatory conditions can disrupt neurotrophic factors and receptor expression in astrocytes, leading to potential central nervous system damage. Itaconate, recently identified for its anti-inflammatory properties, was investigated in this study for its effects on neurotrophic factors in LPS-stimulated primary rat astrocytes.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a complex disorder that arises from genetic and environmental factors. The current investigation endeavors to investigate the role of exposure to organochlorine (OCPs) and organophosphate pesticides (OPPs), recognized as the main environmental elements, in the genesis of PD. In this case-control study, 29 PD patients and 51 healthy subjects were involved.

Statins, traditionally used for managing hyperlipidemia and cardiovascular diseases, have garnered significant interest for their potential anti-cancer properties. Research indicates that statins can inhibit critical processes in cancer development, such as apoptosis, angiogenesis, and metastasis. Despite their promising anti-cancer effects, the clinical application of statins in oncology has been hampered by their inherent low solubility and bioavailability.

Purpose: Evidence suggests that changes in the composition of gut microbiota may be linked to metabolic disorders including type 2 diabetes (T2D). The present study aims to evaluate the compositional changes of the intestinal microbiota in patients with T2D as compared to healthy individuals.
Methods: In this case-control study, there were 18 T2D patients and 18 healthy individuals who served as controls.
Key Clinical Massage: Although tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors are used to prevent autoimmune disease, but they can cause adverse effects. Multiple sclerosis syndrome is one of the rare complications following treatment with TNF inhibitor. We reported a case of rheumatoid arthritis with unfavorable outcome post Etanerecept therapy.

Developing resistance to anticancer drugs complicates the clinical treatment of multiple myeloma patients. Previous studies revealed a link between the unfolded protein response (UPR) and miRNAs with acquired drug resistance. This study aimed to determine the expression profile of XBP1, hsa-miR-34c-5p, hsa-miR-214, and hsa-miR-30c-2* in resistant and sensitive multiple myeloma cell lines to a proteasome inhibitor, bortezomib.

Background: Biotinidase (BTD, encoded by the BTD gene) deficiency is an autosomal recessive neurometabolic disease caused by abnormal BTD activity in the biotin cycle. The clinical symptoms of patients, which are mainly neurocutaneous, range from mild to severe based on the enzyme activity level. This study aimed to identify BTD gene mutations in suspected BTD deficiency patients for the first time in the southwest of Iran and evaluate their genotype-phenotype correlations.

Background: Recombinant plasminogen activator (r-PA) consists of the Kringle-2 and protease domains of human tissue-type plasminogen. It is used clinically to treat coronary artery thrombosis and acute myocardial infarction. However, the expression and production of reteplase (r-PA) are limited due to its susceptibility to proteolysis during manufacturing processes.

The tunable mechanical properties of polyurethanes (PUs), due to their extensive structural diversity and biocompatibility, have made them promising materials for biomedical applications. Scientists can address PUs' issues with platelet absorption and thrombus formation owing to their modifiable surface. In recent years, PUs have been extensively utilized in biomedical applications because of their chemical stability, biocompatibility, and minimal cytotoxicity.
