Introduction: Self-assembling peptide nanofibers have emerged as promising biomaterials in the realm of bone tissue engineering due to their biocompatibility, biodegradability, and ability to mimic the native extracellular matrix. This study delved into the comparative efficacy of two distinct self-assembling peptide nanofibers, RADA-BMHP1 and KSL-BMHP1, both incorporating the biological motif of BMHP1, but differing in their core peptide sequences.
Methods: Cell viability and osteogenic differentiation in rat mesenchymal stem cells (rMSCs), and bone regeneration in rat were compared.

Background: Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML), accounting for 15-20% of adult leukemia cases, is marked by the Philadelphia chromosome, resulting from the t(9;22)(q34;q11) translocation. This leads to uncontrolled cell proliferation and survival. Imatinib therapy lowers BCR-ABL levels, influencing telomere-associated proteins and increasing telomerase accessibility, indirectly boosting its activity.

Dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) show potential for treating neurodegenerative and traumatic diseases due to their neural crest origin. Melatonin (MT), an endogenous neurohormone with well-documented anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, has shown promising results with MSCs in terms of engraftment, proliferation, and neuronal differentiation in animal SCI models. However, the effects of melatonin preconditioning on human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs) for SCI treatment remain unclear.

Safe and effective cancer therapy requires a suitable nanocarrier that can target particular sites, such as cancer cells, in a selective manner. With the tremendous growth in nanotechnology, liposomes, among various competing nanocarriers, have shown promising advances in cancer therapy. Magnetic nanoparticles and metal ions are wide-reaching candidates for conferring magnetic properties and for incorporation into liposomes.

The development of biocompatible antibacterial films plays a crucial role in the fight against antibiotic-resistant bacteria strains. Here, we developed an SBA-15-NH decorated biocompatible CMC/PVA film containing Ag NPs as an antibacterial material against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria strains. The structure of the manufactured film was studied by XRD, SEM, mapping, and TGA analysis showing its formation and firm structure.

Objectives: Breast neoplasm is a malignancy that can have a poor prognosis. The PI3K/AKT signaling pathway is frequently activated in various tumor types, including breast cancer, leading to alterations in the tumor microenvironment and radioresistance. Selective inhibition of PI3Kca (p110α) has been considered an alternative approach to overcome radioresistance, owing to concerns surrounding the excessive side effects of pan-PI3K inhibitors tested in clinical trials.

Introduction: Processes that generate systemic inflammation are strongly associated with neurodegenerative diseases. This study aimed to explore the potential anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects of fasudil and its role in modulating aquaporin-4 (AQP-4) to improve cognitive impairment in a systemic inflammation model induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS).
Method: fourty C57BL/6 mice were assigned to four groups, including sham, LPS, sham+fasudil, and LPS+fasudil).

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes joint inflammation and gradual tissue destruction. New research has shown how important noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) are for changing immune and inflammatory pathways, such as the WNT signaling pathway, which is important for activating synovial fibroblasts and osteoblasts to work. This article examines the current understanding of several ncRNAs, such as miRNAs, lncRNAs, and circRNAs, that influence NF-κB signaling in the pathogenesis of RA.

Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) play a fundamental role in angiogenesis. Herein, we introduce digital holographic microscopy (DHM) for the 3D quantitative morphological analysis of HUVECs in extracellular matrix (ECM)-based biomaterials as an angiogenesis model. The combination of volumetric information from DHM and the physicochemical and cytobiocompatibility data provided by fluorescence microscopy and cytology offers a comprehensive understanding of the angiogenesis-related parameters of HUVECs within the ECM.

Previous studies have yielded controversial results regarding the effect of spirulina on blood pressure (BP), which need updating. So, this updated systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) carry out a more accurate estimation of the effect of spirulina on BP in adults. This systematic searches (in PubMed/Medline, Scopus, and ISI Web of Science) until April 1, 2024, to identify related RCTs based on PICOS guidelines (population (individuals > 18 years old), the intervention (spirulina), the comparison (control or placebo group), the outcomes (systolic BP (SBP) and diastolic BP (DBP)), the study design (RCTs)), and PRISMA-checklist (Supporting Information, data S2).

Progesterone (P4) has an important effect (activatory or inhibitory) on cell proliferation. Although there is evidence of the impact of progesterone on sex-linked cancers, it can affect other cancer cells expressing P4 receptors (PRs). We evaluated the expression of membrane P4 receptors (mPRs) and the viability in progesterone-treated K562 cells to inspect the possible effects route of progesterone on this (CML) cancer cell line.

Cartilage lesions, especially osteoarthritis (OA), usually arise from aging, trauma, or obesity and require medical intervention due to the damaged site's inflammation and the cartilage tissue's poor self-healing capacity. This study aimed to prepare a drug-loaded nanoparticle hydrogel system with anti-inflammatory and chondroprotective effects to treat OA. First, hyaluronic acid (HA) was oxidized to create aldehyde functional groups and then cross-linked with adipic acid dihydrazide (ADH) to form a hydrogel.

Background: Hair follicle stem cells (HFSCs) are promising candidates for cell-based therapies in neurodegenerative diseases because of their ability to differentiate into neural lineages and exert paracrine effects in damaged tissues. However, their clinical application faces challenges, particularly in efficiently guiding them toward neural lineages. This study explores using chick embryo extract (CEE) to enhance HFSCs' secretory capacity and neuronal differentiation.

Pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with or without streptococcal and other bacterial infections (PANDAS/CANS) are emerging as a featured pediatric disorder. Although there is some controversy regarding treatment approaches, especially related to the behavioral sequelae, we have hypothesized in other published work that it is characterized by the rapid onset of Reward Deficiency Syndrome (RDS) in children. We propose utilizing a multi-systems biological approach involving the coupling of genetic addiction risk testing and pro-dopamine regulation (KB220/POLYGEN) to help induce "dopamine homeostasis" in patients with PANDAS, especially those with known DNA-induced hypodopaminergia.

Thus, one-size-fits-all methods for cancer treatment have been replaced by precision oncology (PO) targeting individual cancer symptoms, offering increased effectiveness, and decreased safety concerns and cost load.
Objective: The identification of novel actionable indications, rapid, precise, and comprehensive detection of complex phenotypes in every individual, pioneering clinical trial projects with enhanced response feedback, and widespread availability of innovative targeted anticancer management for every patient are vital for the effective implementation of next-generation precision oncology.

The global public health addiction crisis has been stark, with over 932,400 deaths in the USA and Canada from opioid overdose since 1999-2020, surpassing the mortality rates at the top of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Both nations exhibit opioid consumption rates significantly above the norm for developed countries. Analgesic type of opioids present both therapeutic benefits and substantial health risks, necessitating balanced drug regulation, careful prescribing, and dedicated opioid stewardship.
