Quasimolecular orbitals in cluster Mott insulators provide a route to tailor exchange interactions, which may yield novel quantum phases of matter. We demonstrate the cluster Mott character of the lacunar spinel GaTa_{4}Se_{8} using resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) at the Ta L_{3} edge. Electrons are fully delocalized over Ta_{4} tetrahedra, forming quasimolecular J_{tet}=3/2 moments.

Magneto-optical measurements are fundamental research tools that allow for studying the hitherto unexplored optical transitions and the related applications of topological two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs). A theoretical model is developed for the first-order magneto-resonant Raman scattering in a monolayer of TMD. A significant number of avoided crossing points involving optical phonons in the magneto-polaron (MP) spectrum, a superposition of the electron and hole states in the excitation branches, and their manifestations in optical transitions at various light scattering configurations are unique features for these 2D structures.

Steering of Vortices by Magnetic Field Tilting in Open Superconductor Nanotubes.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

February 2024

University of Vienna, Faculty of Physics, Nanomagnetism and Magnonics, Superconductivity and Spintronics Laboratory, Währinger Str. 17, 1090 Vienna, Austria.

In planar superconductor thin films, the places of nucleation and arrangements of moving vortices are determined by structural defects. However, various applications of superconductors require reconfigurable steering of fluxons, which is hard to realize with geometrically predefined vortex pinning landscapes. Here, on the basis of the time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau equation, we present an approach for the steering of vortex chains and vortex jets in superconductor nanotubes containing a slit.

Ultraviolet C intensity dependence of decontamination efficiency for pathogens as function of repacked metamaterials with screw channels.

Eur Biophys J

April 2024

Quantum Optics and Kinetic Processes Lab, Institute of Applied Physics, Moldova State University, 5 Academiei Street, Chișinău, 2028, Republic of Moldova.

A new method for repackaging optical metamaterials formed from quartz spheres (fibers) of various diameters is proposed for ultraviolet C disinfection of infected liquids by pathogens (viruses and bacteria). The main idea of the new equipment is connected with the rotation of a contaminated fluid by screw channels within a metamaterial matrix prepared from UVC fibers/spherical optics, to improve the decontamination efficiency. In demonstration of the viability of this approach, dynamic and static inactivation of Baker's yeast via Ultraviolet C radiation regimes are used in this paper to show the efficacy of decontamination within the screw channels.
