Genomic Evidence of Multiple Introductions of SARS-CoV-2 in Mauritania.

The rapid and global spread of the novel coronavirus severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) has raised serious public health concerns, including in Mauritania. We sequenced and analyzed the entire genome of 13 SARS-CoV-2 virus strains isolated from polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-positive symptomatic patients sampled from March 3 to May 31, 2021 to better understand SARS-CoV-2 introduction, propagation, and evolution in Mauritania. A phylogenetic tree using available data from the EpiCoV GISAID database and a variant network with non-Mauritanian sequences were constructed.

In Silico Analyses of All STAT3 Missense Variants Leading to Explore Divergent AD-HIES Clinical Phenotypes.

Autosomal dominant hyper-IgE syndrome (AD-HIES) is linked to dominant negative mutations of the STAT3 protein whose molecular basis for dysfunction is unclear and presenting with a variety of clinical manifestations with only supportive treatment. To establish the relationship between the impact of STAT3 mutations in different domains and the severity of the clinical manifestations, 105 STAT3 mutations were analyzed for their impact on protein stability, flexibility, function, and binding affinity using in Silico approaches. Our results showed that 73% of the studied mutations have an impact on the physicochemical properties of the protein, altering the stability, flexibility and function to varying degrees.

In the present work, a new series of imidazo[1,2-]pyrimidine Schiff base derivatives have been obtained using an easy and conventional synthetic route. The synthesized compounds were spectroscopically characterized using H, C NMR, LC-MS(ESI), and FT-IR techniques. Green metric calculations indicate adherence to several green chemistry principles.

Sexual and reproductive health and gender-based violence among female migrants in Morocco: a cross sectional survey.

Background: Over the past decade, Morocco has increasingly become the chosen destination for a growing number of migrants from neighbouring countries and especially from Sub-Saharan Africa. The aim of this study is to describe the sexual and reproductive health (SRH), as well as sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) among female migrants in Morocco.

Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted between July and December 2021.

A giant primary vaginal sarcoma: A report case and literature review.

Primary vaginal sarcoma is a rare disease entity, reported in less than 3% of cases of vaginal cancers. We report the observation of a patient treated at the regional oncology center of Oujda in Morocco who is presented with a non-metastatic primary vaginal leiomyosarcoma of 20 cm. The treatment consisted of neoadjuvant chemotherapy, followed by hemostatic surgery with tumor resection limits, reinforced by radiotherapy and then a surgical resection with a tumor resection taking away the infiltrated part of the anterior face of the lower rectum and the realization of a left iliac colostomy whose resected tumor part limits were healthy.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused millions of deaths and has resulted in disastrous societal and economic impacts worldwide. During SARS-CoV-2 infection, abnormal levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines have been observed and were associated to the severity of the disease. Type I (-α/β) and Type III (IFN-λ) interferons are family members of cytokines that play an important role in fighting viral replication during the early phases of infection.

International Dermoscopy Society (IDS) Criteria for Skin Tumors: Validation for Skin of Color Through a Delphi Expert Consensus by the "Imaging in Skin of Color" IDS Task Force.

Introduction: A structured set of eight basic dermoscopic parameters (lines, clods, dots, circles, pseudopods, structureless, else, and vessels) including a total of 77 variables with corresponding descriptive and metaphoric vocabulary has been released for evaluation of skin tumors by the International Dermoscopy Society (IDS).

Objectives: To validate the aforementioned criteria for the use in darker phototypes (phototypes IV-VI) via an expert consensus.

Methods: The two-round "Delphi method" was adopted, with an iterative process including two rounds of email questionnaires.

Unlabelled: Gallstone ileus is an uncommon cause of intestinal obstruction. It is caused when a gallstone migrates through an enterobiliary fistula (most often between the duodenum and the gallbladder) and is impacted in the digestive system, most often in the terminal ileum toward the ileocaecal valve.

Case Presentation: Here the authors report the case of a 74-year-old woman who was admitted to Compiegne Hospital in France for a gallstone ileus with the sigmoid colon as the impaction site, which is an even more rare cause of intestinal obstruction.

Therapeutic Potential of Clove Essential Oil in Diabetes: Modulation of Pro-Inflammatory Mediators, Oxidative Stress and Metabolic Enzyme Activities.

Type 1 diabetes is characterized by insulin deficiency due to the destruction of pancreatic β cells, leading to hyperglycemia, which in turn induces vascular complications. In the current study, we investigated the effect of intraperitoneal administration of clove essential oil (CEO: 20 mg/kg body weight) on certain oxidative stress and glucose metabolism enzymes, as well as the expression of proinflammatory mediators. Administration of CEO to diabetic rats showed a significant decline in blood glucose levels, total cholesterol, and xanthine oxidase, compared to the streptozotocin group.

Dissecting Platelet's Role in Viral Infection: A Double-Edged Effector of the Immune System.

Platelets play a major role in the processes of primary hemostasis and pathological inflammation-induced thrombosis. In the mid-2000s, several studies expanded the role of these particular cells, placing them in the "immune continuum" and thus changing the understanding of their function in both innate and adaptive immune responses. Useful national data to design tailored interventions aimed at promoting health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among Moroccan students are lacking. The present study is aimed at filling this gap by investigating the levels and associated factors of HRQoL among a national sample of Moroccan university students.

Risk factors affecting patients survival with colorectal cancer in Morocco : Survival Analysis using an Interpretable Machine Learning Approach.

The aim of our study was to assess the overall survival rates for colorectal patients in Morocco and to identify strong prognostic factors using a novel approach combining survival random forest and the Cox model. Covariate selection was performed using the variable importance based on permutation and partial dependence plots were displayed to explore in depth the relationship between the estimated partial effect of a given predictor and survival rates. The predictive performance was measured by two metrics, the Concordance Index (C-index) and the Brier Score (BS).

Optic Disc Drusen (ODD), an Often Misdiagnosed Disease: A Case Report.

Optic disc drusen (ODD) are abnormal collections of protein and calcium that accumulate within the optic nerve. We report a case of a 17-year-old girl who presented to the Department of Ophthalmology at the Cheikh Khalifa International University Hospital, Casablanca, Morocco, with a decline in visual acuity, visual field deficiency, and color vision abnormalities. The patient was misdiagnosed and mistreated for optic neuritis given the presence of bilateral Stage III papilledema solely.

Lymph node tuberculosis mimicking axillary hidradenitis: a case report.

Hidradenitis is a chronic benign pathology with acute manifestations, mainly occurring among young patients with hyper seborrhea. Its clinical presentation is an inflammatory, nodular and fistulized aspect. It affects many body parts, making its location a referral criterion for diagnosis.
