Background: There are several procedural variations for kidney transplant donors, including open, laparoscopic, hand-assisted, and robotic methods, with either an intra- abdominal or retroperitoneal approach. Conversely, fewer options are available for the recipient procedure. We introduce a method that involves a small incision, with the goal of being less invasive for recipients.

Although Mobitz type II atrioventricular block is typically an arrhythmia arising from a permanent organic disorder of the His-Purkinje system, reversible factors should also be considered. Here, we report the association between a rare reversible Mobitz type II atrioventricular block and antipsychotic medication in a 75-year-old patient with schizophrenia.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a common neoplasm in children, but less frequent in adults. Since information on clinical features and genetics of adult ALL in Japan is limited, we analyzed 215 subjects aged 16-65 years with untreated ALL enrolled in the Fukuoka Blood & Marrow Transplant Group studies ALL MRD 2002 and 2008. The prevalence of ALL was bimodal, with the larger group aged 56-65 years.

Objective: Palonosetron is effective for the management of acute and delayed chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV). While emetogenic carboplatin-based chemotherapy is widely used to treat gynecologic cancers, few studies have evaluated the antiemetic effectiveness of palonosetron in this setting.
Methods: A multicenter, single-arm, open-label phase II trial was conducted to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of palonosetron in controlling CINV in patients with gynecologic cancer.

Several reports have described that the prognosis of patients with mitral valve regurgitation due to active infective endocarditis (IE) is better after mitral valve plasty (MVP) than replacement (MVR). However, extensive destruction of valve tissue might cause difficulties with MVP. We repaired a widely-affected anterior mitral leaflet (AML) using an autologous pericardial patch.

Background: Substance P contributes to the hypersensitivity reaction (HSR) to paclitaxel in a rat model. Aprepitant acts as an inhibitor of the binding of substance P to the neurokinin-1 receptor and, consequently, may reduce the frequency of paclitaxel-induced HSR. While aprepitant has a prophylactic effect against vomiting caused by high-dose cisplatin, the benefits of aprepitant have not been clearly demonstrated in patients receiving paclitaxel and carboplatin (TC) combination chemotherapy.

Objective: Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a life-threatening generalized disease with pathological features that are termed thrombotic microangiopathies. Since the discovery of the von Willebrand factor-cleaving protease [a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with a thrombospondin type 1 motif, member 13 (ADAMTS13)], it is widely known that approximately two-thirds of TTP patients have a severe deficiency of ADAMTS13 activity due to gene mutations or acquired autoantibodies to this enzyme. However, the remaining one-third of TTP patients have only moderately reduced or almost normal ADAMTS13 activity.

In the management of inoperable patients with advanced gastric cancer, it is important to control a tumor bleeding actively and to make sure that the patient can take meals through the stenotic cardia for the purpose of keeping the patients' quality of life well. We treated five gastric cancer patients with chemoradiation therapy consisting of CDDP (6 mg/m2) and S-1 (100 mg/body). In the treatment results, we have never seen an active tumor bleeding and anemic state, which required a blood transfusion after the treatment.
