Introduction: The EVEREST II study previously reported that intravitreally administered ranibizumab (IVR) combined with photodynamic therapy (PDT) achieved superior visual gain and polypoidal lesion closure compared to IVR alone in patients with polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV). This follow-up study reports the long-term outcomes 6 years after initiation of the EVEREST II study.
Methods: This is a non-interventional cohort study of 90 patients with PCV from 16 international trial sites who originally completed the EVEREST II study.

In this retrospective case series, we investigated factors associated with posterior capsule aperture (PCA) reclosure following neodymium-yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser posterior capsulotomy. The study encompassed patients who underwent cataract surgery with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation or a combined vitrectomy, cataract surgery, and IOL implantation between 2009 and 2022. PCA reclosure was observed in 22 eyes of 17 patients: 45% (10 eyes) underwent the triple procedure, and 55% (12 eyes) received cataract surgery with IOL implantation.

Purpose: To report our findings in a case that had an accumulation of a translucent fluid between the intraocular lens (IOL) and posterior lens capsule one day after vitrectomy for a vitreous hemorrhage.
Observations: A 67-year-old woman was diagnosed with diabetes 20 years before the vitrectomy and was treated with panretinal photocoagulation (PRP) for proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) 14 years earlier. She underwent cataract surgery with an implantation of an IOL 4 years earlier.

Surgical intervention is the most effective treatment for decreased vision resulting from cataracts. Although the current procedures for cataract surgery are safe and effective, it is well known that several complications can develop after surgery. Postoperative cystoid macular edema (CME) is a well-known complication, and prophylactic medications such as steroids and/or nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs are routinely used for its prevention.

Background: We have developed a new compact lightweight 8K ultra-high-definition (UHD; 7,680×4,320 pixels) camera and started medical application with an ophthalmic surgical microscope which is interchangeable with the conventional high-definition (1,920×1,080 pixels)/4K UHD (3,840×2,160 pixels) microscopic camera.
Methods: We did a feasibility study to apply our 8K UHD microscope in cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery and vitreous surgery using pig cadaver eyes. The 8K UHD microscope comprises a surgical microscope, a camera adaptor with relay lenses, an 8K UHD camera and an 8K UHD LCD to share the 8K UHD images with all surgical staff in real time.

Purpose: To report our findings in three cases of a clouding of the anterior surface of an implanted intraocular lens that developed within 14 days after implantation.
Observations: Three eyes were implanted with the same model IOL and a steam-like clouding developed on the anterior surface of the IOL. The clouding occurred on days 4, 7, and 14 after the implantation in an area of the IOL that was in contact with the aqueous humor.

Silicone oil (SO) is an intraocular surgical adjuvant that reduces the surgical complications in refractory retinal diseases, although membrane and cellular proliferation is often seen even in SO-filled eyes. We hypothesised that the fluid in the space between the SO and the retina, named the "sub-silicone oil fluid (SOF)", enhances these biological responses. We proposed a safe method for SOF extraction.

Unlabelled: We describe 6 cases that developed intraocular inflammation between 42 days and 137 days after implantation of an acrylic foldable intraocular lens (IOL) (ISert model 251) and failed to respond to antibiotic treatment. One eye required a vitrectomy and IOL removal, 2 eyes required irrigation of the capsule, and 5 eyes required systemic administration of steroids. The healing process took 30 to 108 days after onset.

My prime years as an ophthalmologist began as intraocular lenses (IOLs) were just entering into the developmental stage, and I took on as my mission to contribute to perfecting safe and reproducible cataract/IOL implantation surgery. Identifying surgical and/or IOL-related complications consumed time; however, these complications soon became predictable and even preventable with the use of sensitive biological parameters and preclinical evaluation. This was a simple goal for me to pursue my studies on cataract/IOL implantation surgery.

Purpose: To study the chronological change in choroidal blood flow (ChBFlow), disruption of the blood-aqueous barrier, and incidence of cystoid macular edema (CME) in early postoperative pseudophakic eyes, as well as the effect of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) eye drops on these phenomena.
Methods: Fifty patients who underwent phacoemulsification and foldable intraocular lens (IOL) implantation were randomized to receive either topical diclofenac or fluorometholone for 5 postoperative weeks. An additional 20 subjects, with long-standing pseudophakia served as the control.

Methods: Prior to, and 1, 2, 3, and 4 months after, STA injection, central retinal thickness was measured by using optical coherence tomography and the amount of aqueous flare by using laser flare metry.
Results: In the BRVO group treated by STA, the amount of flare was significantly less at 1, 2, and 3 months after injection than in the untreated BRVO group (P < 0.

Many antiglaucoma eyedrops are reported to cause cystoid macular edema (CME) in aphakia and pseudophakia. We review 4 clinical and laboratory studies that compare the incidence of CME in early postoperative pseudophakia in eyes that received preserved latanoprost and timolol, nonpreserved timolol, and the preserved and nonpreserved vehicle for these drugs and looked at the morphological damage to cells and the changes in the indicators of cytokine and prostaglandin (PG) synthesis caused by latanoprost and timolol and the preservative benzalkonium chloride. Based on the findings of these studies, which indicate that the preservative causes increased synthesis of PGs and other substances and intensified postoperative inflammation, the term pseudophakic preservative maculopathy is proposed for CME caused by antiglaucoma eyedrops.

We report 2 cases with a new type of after-cataract. In both, a milky white substance accumulated in a semicircular, closed chamber formed by the intraocular lens optic and the posterior lens capsule. Unlike in previous reports, the closed chamber did not cover the entire capsule but was based on residual lens remnants in the equatorial region of the lens capsule.

This review discusses the roles and interactions of prostaglandins and other possible chemical mediators in cystoid macular edema. Prostaglandins have been studied as a potential causative factor of cystoid macular edema following cataract/intraocular lens surgery. The authors' hypothesis and data with regard to the mechanisms of postoperative cystoid macular edema and other inflammatory conditions are presented.

Objective: To investigate the effects of timolol maleate with preservative and its preserved (PV) and nonpreserved vehicles (NPV) (benzalkonium chloride) on the blood-aqueous barrier and angiographic cystoid macular edema (CME) in early postoperative pseudophakia.
Patients And Methods: Patients with ocular hypertension, normal tension glaucoma, and primary open-angle glaucoma who underwent surgery for cataracts. The study included a double-masked trial for timolol, PV, and NPV and a single-masked trial on the effect of diclofenac sodium and fluorometholone acetate on all three.
